Gary G Fong, DDS

I recently moved back to Hayward and looked around for a nearby dentist and I am so happy I found Gary G Fong. I take my 6 children ages 2 – 15 to see Dr Fong. He is very friendly and thorough. The staff is wonderful as well. I was able to get 2 – 3 of my kids scheduled at the same time, and that is important with my busy schedule. Maria, at the front desk, is wonderful. She has even called me several times to see if I wanted earlier appointments when someone else had canceled. She is very friendly and personable. My nine-​year-​old, who used to be very afraid of the dentist, was very relaxed and comfortable during his baby root canal. I will definitely be going back to Dr. Fong for many years to come.

I found Dr. Fong from 1−800-dentist! Best thing I ever did! They are great here. I have been coming here for years at least the past 10 years ! If you are looking for a great dentist please come in! I live on the peninsula and it is worth it to me to come back to the east bay for my dental appointments!

Came in on a $ 35 tooth cleaning promo, I had a super legit dentist (Nice Teeth San Leandro) but lost my insurance and had recently (within two years) had gotten all neccessary work done and was in perfect health. I went to Gary Fong and he told me he had some new laser cavity detector and his diagnosis with his «special machine» showed I needed 8 cavities he gave me a quote of $ 2k to fix and that his special laser machine could repair my cavities without drilling, I didn’t have the money at the time (1 year ago), but as time passed I saved up some money to get my work done.
I previously had a chipped tooth filled at my legit dentist (Nice Teeth San Leandro) and the filling chipped a couple years later (recently) so I figured I should get a second opinion on the report from Dr Gary Fong (whom I now call Dr Gary FRAUD).
Not only did Nice Teeth redo my filling at no charge, they also hooked me up with an exam with Dr Chen. Dr Chen told me that my teeth were in the same good condition as he saw three years ago and that I still had ZERO CAVITIES.
I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAVITY IN MY LIFE, I AM THIRTY YEARS OLD; WHY DOES DR FONG SAY I HAVE 8 AND NEED OVER $ 2K IN WORK?!
I will be filing a complaint with the state dental board of california /​department of consumer affairs.
I urge anyone who has been ripped off by this clown to do the same.
GET SECOND OPINIONS PEOPLE, HELP YOURSELVES!
I looked up online to see if anyone else had problems with this shady character, after reading Catherines review from 2010 and seeing how he manipulated her in a similar fashion to myself I feel obligated to share my story in the hopes that others will come forward against this guy and that future people don’t get robbed by this shady hack of a dentist.
THANK GOD I DID NOT GET THE $ 2000 RIP OFF AT GARY FONG.
The dental hygienist at his office was however excellent, hopefully she leaves to go work at a legit office (if she hasn’t done so already I was there in 1^st qtr 2014).
In addition the front desk was pushy and seemed desperate to get me to come in for my $ 2k in work, they called me 5 times in the two months following my cleaning to try and seal the deal on their fradulent quote.

You do not want to use this dentist for root canals!!!
Dr. Fong did two root canals for me that I paid cash for, over $ 4000. In less than 10 years, I have had one pulled and the other rebuilt by an endodontist. The endodontist told me she found another root that Dr Fong missed completely and that it was the reason for my infection. Please consider using an endodontist if you need a root canal. Dentists do not have the proper schooling and their root canals are more likely to go bad.

Before I began visiting Dr. Fong, I had already sat through a ton of dental work including a few extractions, countless fillings and other proceedures. I *really* didn’t like dentists. But ask me now about going to the dentist and I’ll say I love it. I mean, like everyone, I still hate getting my teeth cleaned and the terrifying sound of a drill against my tooth, but overall Dr. Fong and his team make sitting in the dentist chair the best possible experience. I recently had to have 3 crowns done and they were all great experiences. Dr. Fong and his amazing dental assistant always make sure to explain what he’s doing, make sure I can’t feel anything and that I’m as comfortable as possible. They even take care to put a moisturizer on your lips to make sure your lips and corner of your mouth don’t get cracked during a procedure. Again, if you’re looking for an awesome, considerate dentist with an assistant and staff that truly care about you, please consider Dr. Fong in Hayward.

I can’t thank Dr Fong enough for giving me my smile back! He is different from any dentist that I’ve been to. Not only does he do great work and is gentle but he explains to you exactly what’s going on and why you need it. Other dentists just say, «ok, you need a root canal, let’s go!» But Dr. Fong takes the time to explain everything out with no rush; and with his updated technology, he can show you pictures of not just any teeth but YOUR OWN! His dental assistant is also very kind, nurturing and gentle. You can tell she is very knowledgeable and is on top of everything. I also get my teeth cleaned there by the hygienist. Its nice to be coming back to the same person to get your teeth cleaned who know you and your teeth. It is such a thorough and gentle cleaning, I have extremely sensitive teeth and she was able to clean it with ease. Best I’ve ever gotten! But one of the best things about this office is that they offering comfortable payment plans. The receptionist always has a big smile on her face and is willing to work with you. They understand that you have financial obligations and can’t necessarily pay everything in full, so the receptionist and I worked out a reasonable amount that I pay every month. I am able to live life and live life with a great smile. THANK YOU TO THE OFFICE OF DR GARY FONG!

For me going to the dentist was an absolute nightmare! Years ago, I had such a bad episode in a procedure that I said to myself that I would never sit in a dentist chair again! The anxiety and fear that followed kept me from going to the dentist for years. As time went on, I started to be in need of serious dental care, but didn’t know where to start? I called 800-​dentist and they referred me to Dr. Fong’s office. His staff from the beginning was so courteous and helpful. Dr. Fong took the time to get to know me, learn of my fears, and help me overcome the fear of being in dentist office again. His work is very gentle, and he works with you at your own pace. He will take the time to learn of your fears, do whatever he can to walk you through a procedure, and help you feel comfortable though every step. I strongly recommend Dr. Fong and his assistant to anyone who has fears of being in that dentist chair. From children to even the adult who has anxiety and fear, trust that Dr. Fong is the dentist for the job!

«Wow! After a lifetime of bad dentistry and rough hygienists I was referred to Dr. Gary Fong and scheduling an exam. He was kind, caring and explained everything to me in a way I could understand. His staff is also wonderful. They made me feel very comfortable. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Fong and his dental office. My wife and daughter are now patients. I have finally found a great dentist. He is honest and I can recommend him to family and friends with complete confidence. Thank you so much for everything.

OK, this was a couple of years ago — but — I strongly want to recommend you do NOT see this dentist. I should have gotten a second opinion when he told me I needed all this work. But, no, I went ahead — (btw — I see a dentist regulary… my last check up before I saw him was no more than a year before and all my teeth and fillings are just fine, but I changed jobs and insurance and had to change dentists). I had to have a root canal on one of my teeth he worked on a few months later — because he drilled to deep — (this is after returning to his office 3 times for tooth pain — each time he kept finding high spots he missed — I mean really). Also — my new dentist said all my fillings were fine — (when I left Fong’s practice for the last time — he wanted to replace 2 more fillings which I did not go forward with — now I wonder if any of the others he replaced — including the one on my tooth that died needed to be done at all — as they were all re-​done with porcelain at about the same time). So — I believe he did unnecessary work — plus — when my insurance ran out — that’s right folks we used up all my insurance by Oct. he wanted to know if I wanted to come in in Nov. for more work 100% out of my pocket. So, I then asked him if this work was needed right away, (to replace two fillings). He said, no, the work was not needed right away — and then persisted with asking again if I wanted to come in. I told him — how’s about we wait until Jan. when I have 100% insurance again. He then asked me again if I wanted to come in Nov. for this work that could wait and have the joy of paying 100% to him. (again, new dentist, said the filings did not even need to be replaced). I mean what is up with that???
Update — one of Dr. Fong’s fillings is not good — have to have it re-​done — what a JERK !!! The other fillings — (the one’s he said needed to be replaced, still fine).
DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST UNLESS YOU WANT POOR WORK DONE AND ALSO WISH TO PAY FOR WORK YOU DON’T NEED !!!
Oh and yes, he and his staff are nice people, but, then and again… I guess it helps to be nice while picking your pocket!!!

I’m surprised no one has given doctor of dental surgery Gary Fong a review; he and his staff are warm, accommodating and very professional. I have recommended doctor Fong to friends and co-​workers and all have given me nothing but positive feedback. Doctor Fong’s office is small but efficient. The office is located on the second floor it has three chairs (facing large windows), an X-​ray room and a pretty cool aquarium at the front desk.
Doctor Fong’s office was about 45 minutes from my home and I always made time to see him. Like a good mechanic, a good dentist is hard to find, when you find one you attach yourself… like a leech (j/​k about the leech thing). Doctor Fong is constantly refining his practice and has the latest toys.
I saw Doctor Fong for over three years and I highly recommend to others.
