A Street Smog Check

This place is such a scam, I was over charged by $ 21 and when I came back because my car supposedly failed the first time they said I had to pay again, this time being charged $ 21 less, which is what I was supposed to pay in the first place. Be warned they fail your car claiming your car computer isn’t smog ready and have you keep coming back wasting your time for a week until the free 7 day retest is done, then they will claim your car passes now but another charge will have to be made. They refused to issue a refund for when I was over charged and still had to pay for them to release the smog tittle, Waste of time and a horrible scam. I will be reporting to BBB as well.

It cost me $ 25 (cash only) and about 20 minutes of time to smog my wife’s 2011 Mazda 6. I was stoked. I did call ahead and went on a weekday morning. They cannot smog all cars when I went that is why it is cheaper. Make sure to check that they can smog your car before going. I think you need special licencing or certification for different years of cars and trucks.

Made an appointment online for 4:15pm. Arrived at 4pm, filled out the necessary paperwork and took a seat in the lobby.
No price wars, no confusion, no stress. Easy as 1−2−3!!!

This is a guy that definitely knows what he is doing!!! He was fast and on top of it!!! Jason is the man.
Plenty of places to sit in the waiting area.
Now the thing that really impressed me was that he called me into the testing area and showed me that my sparkplugs are cross firing and that I should get them changed. I had been having issues with my car for 3 yrs and didn’t realize it was that and he’s the only one that had pointed that out to me.

Jason is the greatest. So friendly and efficient. He can do two cars at a time because he puts one on the Dynamometer while he pre-​checks the other one.
The waiting room is large with a comfy couch and plenty of chairs. Most SMOG shops have two chairs or none. No appointment is necessary. You can make an appointment online by going to their website. They speak Espanol and they have a Twitter account.
There’s a full-​sized punching bag out back if you need to let off some steam. This place is right next to COSTCO and McDonald’s on A-​Street, and just off the 880 freeway so it’s super easy to get in and out of. There’s a burrito shop across the street.
Jason can do Test-​Only SMOGs, either regular or STAR (add $ 10 for STAR). If you need repairs you can go get your repairs and come back for a FREE retest (one free, within 7-​days). He also does Diesels.
I only needed a plain vanilla SMOG check but I have a 2007 truck so I had to pay an extra $ 5 (most shops want $ 10+). Here’s how my tab broke down:
* $ 16.75 basic check (lowest price I’ve seen in a long time, but for pre-​2000 vehicles it is more)
* No upcharge for truck model year
* $ 5.00 upcharge for truck
* $ 8.25 certificate fee (certificate sent electronically to DMV –no need to go to DMV to file it)
* Out the door: $ 30
Note: This is NOT a Don’t-Pass/Don’t-Pay station, but they will do a free retest once within 7-​days. The guy in front of me had to go out to another shop to get his timing adjusted then he came back for his free retest. Great job, Jason!

Great service, I called first to get a quote but no one answered, 5min later I get a call back from Jason and he answered all my question. He greeted me at my car, everything was done in about 10min. He explained everything to me.

Smog Check was done within 10 minutes. Paid $ 25 flat for my 2002 Honda. Excellent customer service!

Quick and easy. Went to a different place before and they wanted $ 60 cash only. Came here it was $ 30 out the door and they accept cards! Highly recommend

I called for an appointment, but one wasn’t needed!
Jason greeted me at my car door and got all the information needed to start the smog check, he drove my car in the bay for me while I waited in the waiting room.
The waiting room was sparse but very clean!
The whole process took less than 10 minutes. Very efficient. We will be back when our other vehicles need smog certs!

A Street Smog Check made me a better husband. How’s that you ask?
Well, my wife’s Mini Cooper needed a smog check as part of her DMV registration. Of course, trying to be a good husband, I wanted to take care of it for her. Being a bad husband, I lost the DMV paperwork.
No worries for A Street Smog Check! Jason looked up my DMV info, performed the Smog Check, and electronically submitted the info to the DMV. All for a price that was cheaper than anywhere else I had looked.
Thanks A Street Smog Check! I’ll come back when it’s time for my car.

Happened to be in Hayward and noticed the sign outside for $ 16 smog check. I figured there’s a catch… Usually there’s extra charge for this or that. I have a minivan so I was prepared to hear a big upcharge but decided to stop by and find out. I was pleased to hear it was only $ 5 more for minivan, so I went ahead with the smog check. Once the inspection started, I was worried I might be told that this or that needed replacing… I mean, it would be easy for a place to tell you a gas cap is bad and sell you one for easy profit… but no, this place is an honest smog check place… my van passed with no extras, all done in less than 10 minutes! I’ll be bringing my other cars here in the future!

Because my car is over 10 years old, I had to go to a Smog place that was STAR certified. I happened to be in Hayward on errands and figured I would take care of the DMV errand I had as well. All I did was type in «STAR smog» and this was one of the first places that came up in the area I was in with very good ratings. I did look this place up on Unilocal,and while looking at it on Unilocal,I found a coupon deal for $ 30 off if I checked in. I did check in and was happy to pay only $ 50 rather than the regular $ 80 for the STAR smog.
The place was a bit dirty, but it’s not anything I hadn’t seen before or worse at other smog places. There was a comfy leather couch for me to sit and wait the few 7 minutes it took to complete the smog. If I don’t find a place closer to my home in Oakland that can give me a better deal, I will return to this place. Got the job done well and cheap with a guy that had a cute smile ;)

Great people and super friendly. I dealt with Nick and was very helpful. I have been living here for 4 years now and both smogs have taken my VW here. Super honest best prices and good people! As long as they are here I will be coming here! Highly recommend!

For Nick: To let you know some people don’t actually post the same day they come in! Second, a black guy at the counter when I came in and showed the coupon said he will not match the coupon! No degrading here but yourself. You are degrading my intelligence about going to the right place. Poor business practice.
Original post: Checked online for a good deal on smog and decided to check out A street smog. Was not impressed whatsoever. Was told you can bring in other coupons to match but was not willing. Plus they mentioned it was going to be a long wait. So went to Quick smog on mission. Cheaper, faster and nicer.

Super fast. Took 15 min when not busy. Look for coupons online.

Fast and Darnell was nice. Highly recommend bringing your cars here. It’s much cheaper than most places I looked into.

I called all over the place to see where I could get the best deal for two cars and was pleasantly surprised at the price Nick quoted. It was the cheapest around. I called him four times before we even made it in and he was still pleasant with me. These guys are awesome to say the least. They are not out to jack you on pricing and will explain everything to you.
I’ll be honest, it kinda looks like a hole in the wall. You drive in and see this dinky red building. You walk in and there is a lot of seating and even one love seat that you can lounge on while you wait. There is a water dispenser with no water or cups, lol. It smells nice because they have one of those fragrance spray things that go off every so often. They have a little play table for little kids and tons of magazines to look at.
Nick greeted us wearing a «Boobies Make Me Smile» t-​shirt, which was worth the price of admission! My brother decided to do a pre-​smog at the last minute today and they gave us a deal on that as well. Nick had us fill out a tiny bit of info for our paperwork and off he went to get one of the cars started. It was entertaining watching Nick doing round house kicks in the back while he waited for the test to finish. It didn’t take long at all to get both pre-​smogs and smogs out of the way.
This place is a little off the beaten path but well worth the trip for quality service at a low price. Call Nick up and he’ll hook you up! Forget the coupon from Unilocal,you’ll get the best deal directly from him!

Even though I was reluctant to go here at first, I decided to give it a try. When it comes to Smog Check places, I don’t expect much. Just a decent price and friendly service. Since I mentioned Unilocal,the guy working there gave me a pretty good price compared to what I expected. It took about 30 minutes though but I don’t really care about how long it took. As long as it gets done and done right. If you look at Miguel C’s comment, it was from pretty long back. It looks like the workers have changed and from what I observed, there’s only free water and not soda (but who really cares about that?). Overall, I highly recommend this place if you need a smog check done. I think they take appointments so it helps to call beforehand.

Bad service and rude to customers. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.
Free Soda and Water doesn’t make up for wasting my time. Won’t be going back there anytime soon. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
