St. Paul Medical Center of the S. Bay

It’s great. The front desk nurses are very nice and friendly! The waiting room is warm (leaning to hot) and kinda makes it hard to breathe but great if you have a cold and want it warm. Dr. Pham, this is a different story. He is smart and all BUT he has an attitude! He would know what to prescribe but he would scold you for being sick. DO NOT MENTION ANYTHING FROM MEXICO ABOUT MEDICINE AND DOCTOR. He will get mad and start to say they don’t work and their practices are garbage. He rushes a lot to like if he wants you out of there ASAP

An okay place. Just try not to breathe while you’re inside. They need some kind of purifier here. Ugh

The staff is horrible, they are not helpful at all. Anyone in the medical field needs to be understanding and polite. The doctor is fast to prescribe medicine but is not willing to listen to the patient’s concern. It’s like let me hurry up and get your money so I can go get the other patients’ money too.

Great fast clinic, the nurse and doctors that work here are great. Not tons of people so there’s not a long wait.

Such a bad experience.
Doctor literally just started writing down prescriptions while I was naming my symptoms. He didn’t even bother figuring out what was wrong with me. He literally wrote down SIX prescriptions! That can’t be good for you! It’s very bothering that there could actually be something seriously wrong with me and he blew it off the way he did & how he literally just prescribed whatever he felt like prescribing to temporarily fix my symptoms. If you are actually worried about your health condition, I wouldn’t suggest going here. Take your time to schedule an appointment with Vasek Clinic instead.

I love this place. It’s good for people who don’t have health insurance. The consultant is only $ 50. The medicine at the pharmacist is cheap compare to other places. The staff is really nice and the Doctor has never failed me. Every time I go it’s fast and prescribes me the right medication and I feel better. I recommended taking your kids and yourself here unless you want to go to the hospital and wait for a long time and pay more money.

I came in on a Sunday, it wasn’t to crowded but no other clinics are open on this day plus it’s not to far from my house. I was there about 45 minutes then got seen by the Dr. Staff was nice, Dr checked me out. I had an ear infection. He wrote out a prescription. I have no insurance so, I paid $ 50 for clinic visit which is great and a pharmacy is conveniently next door. I paid another $ 50 for 3 medicines. Not bad considering other places like urgent care is $ 150 not counting meds. This was a great experience for my situation. Thanks St. Paul’s.

Not to knock this facility, but it’s a little strip mall type place. They may call it a «medical center» because of the services they provide, and the pharmacy and dentist office in the same location, but it’s not like UCLA Medical Center, or Torrance Memorial, so don’t look for that when you drive up.
This will be a long review because I write a lot, so for the brief review:
— Friendly staff — they don’t make you feel like a loser for going to a low-​cost clinic
— $ 50 visits — other services like tests and x-​rays cost more, but they will tell you the fees, and if they don’t, ask first if you are not sure
— No appointment necessary (except for pediatric physicals), not too long a wait
— Nice doctors — I had Dr. Tran
— Facility was clean — lobby and the 2 exam rooms I was in
— Scale said I lost 10 lbs. — score!
— I got better in 6 hours with the meds I got
With no medical insurance ($ 800/​month COBRA anyone?) and a painful/​itchy/​kill-​me-​now thing I called the Little Company of Mary Slovak Clinic in Hawthorne — they didn’t take drop-​ins and had no appointments for 4 days but they suggested St. Paul’s when I asked for an alternative.
I called St. Paul’s and they kindly told me that they would be able to see me as long as I got in before 5pm as they closed at 6pm. I checked out their website and was a little antsy when I saw the location, I live in the area, so it wasn’t like a «bad» neighborhood, I just assumed/​hoped with my 10 years of having health insurance and going to «world class» doctors that I would be going somewhere comparable, but the painful/​itchy/​kill-​me-​now thing killed my pride. I called back again and made sure the visits were $ 50 (not on their webste, but the Slovak Clinic told me), then I printed out the patient info form on the website to bring in with me.
Ok, I did ask myself why there was a medical clinic staffed with Vietnamese doctors in a mostly Latino neighborhood, but then I ask why my mom is the only —– where we live, so go figure, you end up where you do the most good. Anyway, they speak Spanish, English and Vietnamese at this facility in case you need the language services.
There is a sign on the front desk that reminds people that patients are not always seen in the order they arrive — more serious cases may be seen ahead of minor cases.
I signed in at 4:30pm. The receptionist took a look at my form and immediately made me a file. At the time I checked in no mention of payment other than, «How will you pay today?» was asked — they didn’t make you pay first — meaning that they did not assume you were a deadbeat for coming to a low-​cost clinic.
I did not fill out a medical history form — if there is something majorly wrong with you TELL THEM otherwise they won’t know and things could get bad big time even if you come in with just a smashed finger. I didn’t care because I ask a lot of questions and I know my history, drug interactions, etc., but not everyone does, so don’t assume they can tell your history from looking at you.
After 20 minutes I was called for the usual height/​weight/​temperature/​blood pressure stuff. All the equipment was clean/​modern. They take blood pressure the old-​fashioned way — I always have a false high BP with computerized monitors. I waited about 10 minutes in one exam room and then was moved to another one (they told me they needed to move me in the beginning), and then 5 minutes later the doctor came in.
You can hear everything going on between the rooms, and the doctor seemed to be the only one seeing patients at that time. He was nice to everyone, even making sure one guy completely understood to come back next week, and suggesting a good time on Saturday.
I showed him my painful/​itchy/​kill-​me-​now thing and he was pretty much «WTF?!? How long have you had that?!?» He had a look of pity and fear on his face. I told him what I thought it was and he just shook his head sadly. He wrote me a prescription for X and one for Y and told me to stop using the stuff I got from CVS. I was doubtful since he only spent like 5 minutes with me, but 24 hours later, I’m 90% better. BTW, I was doubtful, but I didn’t feel rushed, he wasn’t rude or abrupt or anything like that, I think he just wanted me to get on the meds and get better.
I made sure to ask him if I could ask for generic meds to keep costs down and he told me to go to the drug store next door — Ah ha! They’re in cahoots with the pharmacist I thought!
Anyway, I leave and the receptionist takes my debit card, gives me a receipt and sends me on my way and kindly says she hopes I feel better. I ask her about the pharmacy next door and she says they’re good and give patients a break. Again, with the pharmacy… but you’ll have to see my review of the Thanh Pharmacy to see what happens next…

Fractured something and it’s a Sunday. No doctors and the ER will most likely overcharge.
The patients here are lined up based on urgency. So fracture beats guy with fever and medical attention was received much sooner.
Staff is really nice, and the pharmacy is next door. The area isn’t the nicest, but you can see that these guys aren’t here for the money but to actually «be a doctor.»
