Hawthorne Hardware

This place wasted my time. I came in to make a quick purchase and they wouldn’t let me pay with my business debit card because my business’ name is different than the one on my ID. No $&@%!! And the lady was rude as if I was a burden. Will never come back and will warn the rest. Go to Kurts Hardware on Artesia Blvd. They’re always more than happy to help and have a much wider variety.

Great place. Great prices. Great people. Always have every thing I need. Parking not so great. Do to rude church next door. They share the parking lot.

No customer service whatsoever. I stood there for almost 30 minutes trying to get a couple keys copied and nobody approached me. Four employees in the store, only two customers and not one person even said hello to me. I will never come back here again, I will tell everybody I know never shop at Hawthorne hardware.

I’ve been a regular customer here for a few months now, this shop is as good as any hardware store I’ve ever been too.
The staff is helpful and friendly, I’ve come here to make copies of keys, buy riders for signs, to get general supplies and to replace a missing garage door opener.
I recommend this shop.

I came here because I needed a tap to fix my stripped bolt hole. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by an employee who was very nice. He showed me what size I needed and asked how badly it was stripped. He seemed very knowledgeable too at hardware. I ended up getting some key chain garage remote control as well since I heard the prices were pretty cheap compared to others. It works like a charm and opens garage doors all the time!
Come here if you want great service and don’t have to wait in long lines.

I stumbled on this place as I was driving to the freeway and it reminded me that I needed tools for my apartment. I walk in and get greeted by a worker. The person working there directs me to what I’m looking for. Paid for my goods and i was on my way.
They pretty much have everything you need at cheaper prices then home depot. No frills, easy, had what i was looking for, in and out. Will definitely be back for future hardware needs!

Your typical mom & pop store. Came in here when I was trying to buy the tools to build my dog a house.
There is something about the small store with the walls stacked up with all kinds of hardware. Home depot might have a bigger selection and everything in large quantities, but it will never be able to emulate the personification and amiability of people who’s jobs depend on making the customer happy.
I was lead to where the tools where, I was explained which worked better for me and why. I then bought some extra stuff for my light switches and a new nice hammer :)
It is nice to see small businesses taking care of customers just the way it was meant to be.

This is a great mom and pop hardware store. All their stuff are reasonably priced, and they have great customer service. If they don’t have what you want, they can order just about anything, which you can’t do at places like Home Depot. Get garage remote controls, new screens, screen doors, glass doors, get keys copied, and buy nails in single quantities. Lots of parking space is a plus. I’ll def be back for home goods!

I happened on this place while looking for some ³⁄₁₆ ID clear plastic tubing, I came out with an 8 inch glass light fixture cover! lol
Completely random find! Having never been here I was struck by all the old items like screw in fusses, the light fixture covers, old pop in circuit breakers… And completely random people working the place, diverse to say the least!
Parking can be had in small lot next to it or take you chance with street parking, there are plenty of parking spaces in Hawthorne’s quirky boulevard lots. Prices are a bit higher on more common items than your Home Depots but they do offer different brands, and some rare items. Happy hunting!

While I agree that the knowledge-​level of the employees IS all over the map, this is still a great resource with reasonable prices. Tip: the worse the command of the english language, the better the hardware advice usually is. I drive further to go here.

Nice neighborhood hardware store. friendly service, fair prices, etc.
only complaint is the bolt/​fastener sections is sub standard.
messy, somewhat unorganized, & not very extensive. very minimal stainless fastener selection. (better than home depot but that’s not really saying much). I go to Lovelady hardware for fasteners/​bolts, & Hawthorne
hardware for other stuff.

I stopped here Saturday on the advice of a locksmith — I was looking for a new gate transmitter remote control. I showed them the one I had that wasn’t working. They then tried to pop open the dipswitch/​battery part, which took them a decent amount of time — my remote has the scars to prove it.
They told me after they achieved success in opening it that since it was the weekend most of their remote controls were locked up in the office and I’d have to come back during the week. I asked them if they could even help me identify what I needed to buy so they pulled out the catalog and started thumbing through models and trying to compare mine. They couldn’t match mine, and so took my name and number and said she’d call me on Monday when the office would be open — more trouble taking my phone number and name down. I was then proceeded to be told that maybe I should just replace the battery. Thanks, really. Regardless of whether there was a new battery in there or not (there was) — you press the button, you see a strong red light. I again ask what kind of remote I should be looking for, or any other suggestion for stores to visit to buy this. Girl says she’ll call me Monday and go from there. Thanks for the helpfulness.
Monday rolls around, no phone call. I come back in later in the week to give them one more chance, but this time I have the make and model of a remote that I think will work. I find same girl on the phone chattering away w/​a friend of hers laughing and joking around. I wait there until she’s done and she finally hangs up and snatches the paper I had everything written down on.
In the end, I have a working remote no thanks to their lack of knowledge. Horrible customer service experience to boot.

Please be advised that I have tried several times, on different days, to pay for items at the counter and the black cashier has turned and walked away each time. I have no explanation for this behaviour. I have never had more than a few words with this person so whatever is illiciting this lack of professional courtesy is beyond my grasp. Today there were three workers at the front desk when I went to pay. The young latino man had been very courteous and friendly but apparently does not work the register. The young Latino woman apparently helping at the register never looked up from reading her paper to assist us. I understand how over time employee loyalty can become an entrenched standard but there are times when professional integrity must win out and people need to be fired. This lack of courtesy to the customer, for any reason, is a blight on the reputation of a business.

just to have some fun, tell frownie pants at the left counter to ring up charge and then change your mind and pay cash! She’ll give you the look of death.
Good pricing, old school help and communal feel. A+

I can only echo the other five star reviews here. This is a great store, and I usually go there, even though it is not the closest. It is far better than the overpriced hardware store here in El Segundo. The quality of help is all over the map, but some of them are really good. And they can order almost anything. You’ve got to experience the spray can paint room to believe it.

dont waste your time going to home depot at ocean gate when you can come here and get it at 30% less $ and get great help. they sell everything by the piece, not in stupid blister packs of 20. they have a locksmith office on site too. they cut pipe, screen and rope. i never wait more than 5 minutes to shop for all of my stuff. they bought out united hardware around 10 years ago, and didn’t raise the prices on the tags. 10 year old prices!!!
