Fountain Diner

I’ve been served raw pancakes on one visit, and a cockroach on another. Need I say more?

Just had probably the best chicken rice soup outside of Grandmas, Moms and the old Jewish lady next door Sadie.

Stopped for breakfast while on the way upstate for business.
Looked good on the outside, a typical diner design.
We are seated by a lovely hostess and then the fun begins.
First sun is in our eyes. She says no problem I’ll get it and she did. Also commenting «If I break it it’s OK» and if I get fired I don’t mind I work on the books and can collect unemployment. I know she was joking and we took it as such.
Waitress comes over to explain that there is s large group in the other room and only one cook so we have to wait. Not a problem, where are we going to go?
Now it’s a little cold where we are sitting but she explains that the AC on the other side doesn’t work so the have to crank up the AC. on our side to balance it.
All of this sounds like reasons to leave right. Don’t even think about it. The food came much quicker than expected and was cooked pretty good. Here’s what I loved most. I had eggs and sausage. They have real sausage here not that“breakfast link” excuse for sausage that most restaurants serve. I was so happy.
Here’s the best part… These ladies were hysterical. Reminded me of Mel’s Diner. I could have sat there all day and listened to them just talking about everyday stuff. Well I guess you had to be there to understand so why don’t you try it I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. Oh and I suggest the eggs and sausage.

We are regulars here and it is our go to spot. Pleasant staff and the food is great. I alter between the Veggie Quesadilla and the Veggie Wrap. Breakfast is so good too. Great spot to grab a bite.

Fountain Diner… ugh. I’ve eaten in this diner probably about 10 times. The food is average diner food, at best. What really bothers me is the waitstaff. Remarkably, I find them incredibly and pretty uniformly, unpleasant, UNTIL, shortly before the check arrives, then they perk up and engage you. If it has just happened once, I wouldn’t say anything, but it’s literally happened every time I’ve gone there.

Came for breakfast here a couple weeks ago. Place was empty. I almost felt like i was in a diner from a movie scene, it had an old school feel.
Im surprised i waited so long to patron this place since i work less than 5 mins from here lol.
Overall breakfast was good and plenty. The waitress was nice. Although, at first i felt a weird vibe from her when we walked in… almost like she didnt want to be bothered. But she was attentive and didnt even charge me for a second large glass of OJ lol.

Took my two granddaughters in for lunch. Beverage/​busboy was on his phone the entire time. (How does he keep his job? Worthless) He neglected to bring their apple juice, had to be flagged for sweetener for my coffee and never offered a refill… how could he… he was so busy on his phone!!! The waitress was quick and friendly… however, she did bring one child’s cold tunafish way ahead of the other’s macaroni which made no sense to me… i do prefer all foods to be served together… piece-​meal does not cut it for me in a restaurant. (Should half the table start eating before the other half is served???) Truly ridiculous and don’T know why servers do this.
The other employees I observed seemed more interested in gabbing than working and the man at the cash register was downright snarky.
The prices were way higher than at other diners and judging by the foods we had today, are not worth it… there are so many other diners around… I will NOT be returning to this poor excuse of a diner.

Eaten here many times. For diner standards this place is great. They have a large variety on their menu. I’ve ordered everything from omelettes, burritos, burgers to fish dinners. Everything has been great for diner standards. Staff is always polite and efficient. It’s a great casual place to relax and enjoy a meal. Their desserts are also amazing!

When a diner serves up bad pancakes they should lose the right to call themselves a diner! Of the three diners in my group we rated the food from bad to worse. Coffee was ok if a little weak. Waiter was ok.

First time I went to Fountain Diner, I was astounded at the wait. It was 11 hours! But now I understand why; the waffles are the best in the whole wide world. I’m addicted and I just can’t get enough.
Apart from the occasional husband yelling at his wife and making the dinner awkward for everyone eating, it has a lovely environment, and good service.

Convenient neighborhood diner. Good food, quick service! Usually don’t have to wait unless it is a weekend morning! Give it a try, you’ll be back!

Always good meals here. Food is consistent. I love their blueberry pancakes ! Good service, people are friendly. In my opinion the best diner around.

Great diner, second best in river town area. Massive menu and amazing chocolate chip pancakes. Fries are great too. But, they do charge 1 $ extra if you ask for extra bbq sauce, which is annoying. Also, a little bit more expensive than the other diners.

I want to love the Fountain Diner.
It’s an old-​school diner with an old-​school look. And, for goodness’ sake, it’s called the Fountain Diner – and it has a fountain in front of it! How cool is that?
But when I walked in a few weeks ago – my first time there in several years – the entire wait staff was clustered together in group conversation. They looked at me as if they couldn’t figure out just what I wanted. Why would a stranger be coming in from outside? They grudgingly gave me a table, then disappeared. Every time I needed a waitress, I had to send out a search party.
Today, they showed me to a booth right away. Unfortunately, the table and the seat were covered with crumbs.
This is my pet peeve in a restaurant – crumbs on the chair or the seat. When they clean off the table, can’t they also clean off the seat? Do I have to sit on the particles of food that fell out of the last customer’s mouth?
Today, however, they hadn’t cleaned either the table or the seat. I said to the busman, in my best «I’m a big tipper» voice, «Could I bother you to give this seat a wipe?»
With an annoyed look on his face, he half-​heartedly wiped off half the seat. Unfortunately, not the part I was about to sit on. It was either say something, or have pieces of rice clinging to my pants for the rest of the day.
«Brother, I hate to be a complainer, but would you mind wiping off the rest of this seat? I really don’t want to sit on those crumbs.»
Glaring daggers at me, he wiped off the seat more thoroughly. If it were possible to curse through wiping, that’s what he was doing.
The turkey omelette was good, though, as was my food on my previous visit. If they improve the service and the cleanliness, they might see me as a regular. Until that happens, I won’t be back.

I have been coming here for years and it is going downhill. The food is too overpriced for the amount that you pay. I do not eat very much and the past few times I have been leaving hungry. I have made complains to the waitress about the food and was told that she would not be able to do anything because the chef will get mad. As a loyal customer for many years this was my last straw and I will not be returning here.

The place is empty and the only waiter in site refuses to come over or even speak when we ask to order. He simply points. The passion he had for his job was off the charts. Then after we order a bug lands on me. Weird vibes and dirty. Enjoy!

Would have gave more stars if food was better. The food isn’t bad, but it isn’t particularly good either. I hate to use the word, but I guess you would call it mediocre.
Whole wheat waffle was good.

Consistently above average food for a slightly higher price compared to your average diner.
The Fountain Diner is the much beloved standard diner set-​up with great quality.

Stopped in for breakfast this AM. The first thing I noticed was an overwhelming waft of greasy diner smell and quite possibly, farts.
If you can get past the smell (and grubby carpet) the food isn’t half bad. They offer a carbon copy breakfast menu from every area diner; eggs, bacon, pancakes, bagels, etc. The quality is mixed. For example, the eggs were cold and unseasoned but the bacon was smokey and crisped up perfectly. The coffee was revolting but they had cups for toddlers which really hit the spot for me (not getting soaked) and my kid (guzzling down a milk in style).
Probably wouldn’t go back again, but I’m glad I finally tried it and confirmed that it’s exactly the same mediocrity you’ll find at every other Westchester diner.

My wife and I stop by here every weekend. The omelets are great and the challah French toast is some of the best we’ve ever had.
Andrea is our girl and she is our favorite server here. She always takes good care of us and makes us laugh with her charming sarcasm and tough love attitude. Make sure you ask for her and tip her (and everyone there!) very well. They all work very hard here.
