Jack Rabbit Roadside

On 12/​08/​2014 Jack Rabbitt was dispatched to me through Audi Roadside Assistance to fix a flat tire. Although the gentleman was there within the time i was told, what a freaking nightmare has ensued since. The gentleman had difficulty putting the bolts back on my spare that evening, fought with them for a few minutes, and used both a power drill and a hand tool to finally secure the spare on my Audi. I didn’t even think twice about his trouble putting the bolts on– i figured it was cold out, and he had said his drill was running out of battery since he had repaired multiple flats that evening. Well, in the process of securing my spare he completely cross-​threaded and stripped three of the five bolts, and ruined the wheel hub. $ 1200 DOLLARS and one week later, I will finally be able to take the spare tire off my car and replace it. I don’t know who I am more disgusted with, Audi Roadside for subbing out their roadside care to sub-​par repair companies, or the gentleman from Jack Rabbitt who claimed to be highly experienced. I should have gone with my gut and called AAA in the first place.

I was traveling a few weeks for work in the middle of winter and when I came home my van, that was parked on the street, had a dead battery. I called my insurance company who said they would find a local roadside service to come help. Minutes later I get a text saying the company was Jack Rabbit and would be at my house in one hour, however the guy ended up calling me 30 min later saying he had arrived.
I was a bit suspicious at first since, like other reviewers had said, there were no decals or writing on his car to indicate he was from a business, but it all turned out well. The guy was friendly, helpful, and quick to get my van up and running. He even stayed for about 5 min after my van had a false start to ensure everything was ok the next try. Best part was it was all covered by my insurance! I think the guy said it would’ve been about $ 22 or so otherwise.
I would use Jack Rabbit again (although I hope I don’t need to!).

My friend’s car’s battery died at midnight in the middle of an abandoned parking garage. When she called her insurance company, they told us that jack rabbit would be coming in about an hour. Ten minutes later, he arrived, hopped into my car and I drove him to the dead car. Within the minute, he had my friend’s car started up and running. Admittedly, I was a bit nervous about asking a random stranger to get into my car, but he was a perfect gentleman and very professional. The driver got down my friend’s information (it was free, thanks to the insurance) and left. Alltogether, the process took maybe ten minutes, counting my driving time to get down to her car in the parking garage.

Nissan’s roadside assistance program dispatched Jack Rabbit saying «they out of NY somewhere» and would be to me in an hour. Knowing the spread of NY, we figured we were in it for the long haul, but Harrison is only 15 miles away, and Jack Rabbit was to us in clear under 30 minutes. (Thank goodness it was after 9PM and not rush hour though!)
This guy gets one star off because it was strange not to see his vehicle marked with company logos, but it was dark so it’s possible he had a magnet/​decal.
He was pleasant, fast, jumped our car, and exited with some light-​hearted banter! Really have no complaints at all. Wish I had gotten his name so I could highlight it here, but with car troubles, I wasn’t thinking about reviews. I only came here to find out where they drove in from!
Granted, I was in my own driveway and not in a rush — but I am really happy to say that I did not have the experience the other reviewer had.

I woke up Monday (10÷1÷12) morning to a dead car battery and Jack Rabbit was the first vendor dispatched by my insurance company, Liberty Mutual (LM). The entire experience was a 4.5+ hour nightmare involving multiple vendors and terrible customer service, but my experience with Jack Rabbit was particularly troubling. Details below; in summary, the driver was more than an hour late, tried to scam me for $ 100, and then left the scene without completing the service (after having me move my car into an illegal and potentially dangerous position).
(looking the logs on my cellphone) I called LM at 6:36 AM and was notified at 6:43 AM that Jack Rabbit’s bid had been selected by the LM dispatch system. I was told to expect service in 1 hour, and received a call at 7:23 AM notifying me that the driver would be at my car in 20 minutes. I called to check on the status of the request at 7:47, and was told that the driver was «on his way» and would be there shortly. I called again at 8:18. Same message, driver «on the way» or «nearly there» or «just down the street.» I called again at 8:32. And 8:45. And 9:00. And 9:15 (I wouldn’t have called so frequently if they had just given me a real estimate! But the driver clearly was not «just down the street.»)…before the driver finally arrived at 9:18, more than 1.5 hours after the service was originally scheduled (and 2.5 hours after the initial service request). Then things got weird.
From the beginning, there was something off. The car was marked with the name of a different company (apparently Jack Rabbit uses contractors as well?), while the driver himself was rude and twitchy (potentially high?). I rent a parking space that is on a small hill with a larger flat lot at the foot of the hill; there is a gradually sloping driveway (~50 ft) leading from the street to the larger flat lot. I directed the driver to my car, and he first tried to start the engine using a portable charge unit. The car failed to start; the driver told me that I had two choices: I could either call a tow truck to move my car to an area where he could hook up jumper cables, or I could pay him $ 100 now to push the car down the hill. When I questioned him, he tried to play the ‘I’m doing you a favor, we’re not supposed to do this’ card. Our next 30 seconds of conversation then went something like this:
Me — «Thanks, I think I can push it down the hill myself.»
Him — «How you gonna do that?»
Me — «It’s on a hill.»
Him — «Yeah, but you can’t push it yourself.»
Me — «All I need to do is release the parking brake.»
Him — «Whatever.»
He moved his truck to the street (at the end of the driveway leading to the lot), and I rolled my car down the hill next to his. Things got weirder. The car was now parked at the end of the driveway (blocking access to the entire lot) and jutting halfway into the street. I got out of my car… and he proceeded to curse me and speed off. I tried chasing after him on foot (and wearing dress shoes). I lost. What the F? Is this really happening?
This was just the first part of my odyssey that morning, but needless to say, I wasn’t happy. Liberty Mutual’s Roadside Assistance was thoroughly unhelpful throughout the process… after calling LM to inform them about the situation, I was given no apology or additional consideration, and simply told that they would re-​open the request and send out another service in about an hour. Seriously? My car is now in a dangerous position DUE TO THE INSTRUCTIONS OF ONE OF YOUR CONTRACTORS and you tell me to hold tight for the next hour (more like 2)?
