Abrams & Weakley opened in 1985 and has been offering the best in pet nutrition, supplies and grooming in the Harrisburg area since then. Our store looks small on the outside, but inside we are fully stocked with over 25 brands of all natural foods, including raw, freeze-​dried and dehydrated diets. Our passion is helping pets and their people find the healthiest foods and supplies for their needs. We pride ourselves on our customer service and knowledge of pet health and products. We are dedicated to bringing your pets the most nutritious products available. We research each of our products and will not sell food or treats from China. Our foods are made in the USA or Canada. Come visit us and bring your dogs for a romp in our large, private play yard, make a spa appointment in the grooming shop, find your pet’s favorite treat and food, or sign up for a training class! We look forward to meeting you!

History

Established in 1985.

Beth Abrams and Judy Weakley started the business in 1985 and developed a large, local following of pet owners. This was well before the big box pet super centers emerged in our area. The ladies gave sound advice, offered the best supplies available for all kinds of furry critters. A&W became a trusted name in the business and that still holds true today. Over the years Judy took over the business until she passed away from ALS in 2009. Judy left the store to her friend, Kristen, who still runs the store in the same way, carrying on the original mission: excellent products, information and service.

Abrams & Weakley is AWESOME. It’s a great small, local business who caters to pet lovers by supplying the BEST natural, grain free, dehydrated/​freeze dried and canned pet foods available on today’s vast market.
They have a well stocked store, easily accessible off I-​81 or US 322 on North 6th Street in Harrisburg’s Uptown district. People are welcome to bring their pets along– A&W also has a fenced in yard for your critter family to cavort in, do their «business», and stretch their little legs.
It’s locally owned and operated– the owners and workers are SUPER friendly and helpful; everyone is very knowledgable about the products and happy to take time to answer any questions you may have. Swing past on your way thru HBG or make them your regular pet food supplier if you live in the area.

This is the best pet food store in the Harrisburg area by far. The owners are as kind as they come. They carry a huge assortment of high quality pet food and pet accessories at very reasonable prices.

This store is by far the best pet store I have ever been in… ever.
Admittedly, I was already excited to check it out when I met one of the owners, Kristin, at the *AWESOME* clothing swap Abrams & Weakly co-​sponsored at the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center/​Stage on Herr.
I love supporting businesses that make an investment in their respective communities.
HOWEVER. *sigh* let’s face it, good pet food is. well. expensive…
So it took me a few weeks to get up to the neighborhood to check it out.
Once I was there though, I was awestruck by the selection of foods and the SERVICE… That really is a deal-​sealer for me, it doesn’t take much to make me happy, I just need to feel like where I choose to spend my paltry $ 15 matters.
I was charmingly honest about how I wanted to get better food for my cat, but was on a budget. Kristin immediately hooked me up with a fistful of samples and said «You might start with figuring out what she likes to eat» :-)
So for the past week and a half I’ve been figuring out what Lucy likes, which has been awesome.

Great little pet store! Until a friend told me about this store, I never knew it was just up the street. Abrams & Weakly is conveniently located to the suburbs and city in Susquehanna Township. This compact store is packed with the best brands in natural pet foods and other supplies, including dog and cat toys. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They helped me select a natural cat litter made from corn cobs. Pets are welcome in the store and there is an adjacent yard for dogs to take advantage of. So glad I checked this out, it will be my go-​to pet store from now on.

WOW! There is a HUGE deficiency in the pet foods market that this store fills! I have lived in DC, Atlanta, Maryland ‘burbs, and now in South Central PA. Nowhere did I find a natural, holistic and AFFORDABLE place like this. The variety of brands is staggering! When I was there, a super helpful gal named Erin greeted me, and asked if I needed help. Boy did I! She gave me a very pleasant, easy-​to-​understand tour of the store. I was able to confidently make selections for my 2 cats & 2 ferrets. The *actual* customer service is only part of the appeal of this store. It reminds me of the old-​time «feed & seed» farm stores I went to with my parents as a kid. The store has been there 25 years. my first interaction with a&w was when i was just learning about decent pet food. i called with a few questions and must have kept kristin on the phone for a good half hour. she graciously answered all of my questions and continues to listen to my endless questions and concerns (as does becky, also a real trooper).
you want good kibble? they got it. you want good canned food? they got it. you want quality treats, shampoo, or toys? they got it. you want frozen green tripe or raw bones for fido? they got it. you want a dehydrated or refrigerated diet? yup, you guessed it.
great store for good pet food (not the junk from the supermarket or petsmart — if your idea of good dog food is nutro, you need to make a visit to a&w!). they have a huge selection and the prices are more than reasonable. the staff is friendly and helpful and is more than happy to educate you or give suggestions. they welcome dogs and people alike, and to make things easy, they have an on-​site groomer (call the store for her hours) so you can get fido’s herr and nails did while you shop for nutrition.
overall a great store, i’m so glad i found it. i tell everyone about it, so i decided to Unilocal about it, too.

Abrams & Weakley is an awesome store — probably the only place where you can find high quality pet food in the Harrisburg area. We have three cats, which sometimes eat better than we do. The store carries a wide variety of premium cat food varieties (we buy Go! brand, but they carry many others). These types of food are not that much more costly than the so called premium varieties they sell at the pet superstores (Iams, Science diet) and they are significantly better quality — human grade meats, less fillers like wheat gluten.
Years ago I would feed my cats Fancy Fest (ugh) and my one cat would occasionally break out in a rash on her neck. Since changing foods, she’s had much less skin problems. I’ve read that a lot of skin problems in cats & other pets have can usually be attributed to a wheat or other food allergy (cheap pet foods are packed with fillers — cats are carnivores and shouldn’t be eating these types of foods). Obesity can also be caused by these cheap fillers.
The store also carries a good variety of cat treats (including specialized treats for joint problems, etc.) and toys. I believe they also carry frozen dog food — raw diet? I’m not 100% sure though. They have a wide variety of dog foods.
The store owner is very friendly and very accommodating (recently took over ownership). I believe she will special order food if possible. I encourage owners that care about their pets diet to try the foods at A & W store.

We found this place when we had to get special dog food for the newest anoymous. While the outside looks unpreposing (it looks like an old house), the inside is filled with all sorts of feed. Bags and Bags of non-​human chow. There are photos of pets that were owned by your grandparents and a decent selection of dog toys. If you need something out of the ordinary, try here before you order on-​line.
