Supermercado Chapala

Just had breakfast here and food was great! Also very well priced. I have been coming here since I was a little girl for the chicken asado and it really does not get better anywhere else.

I have been coming here for years, my entire family has been here, and for years the food has been amazing. You can’t even go wrong with this place. The prices are great, the food is fresh and the homemade guacamole and salsas are all you could ever need in life. I hope this place remains for years and years and years more. All of the same people are still there from when I was younger too, so we’re all family now! And in the summer time there’s even an elote man with fresh mangos and elotes and fruit. Love this place right in Rogers park. Delicious!

This is a Mexican grocery store that also houses a restaurant. We moved down the street from this place and they advertise $ 0.99 tacos. Who can beat that? So we decided to try it.
They have a wide selection of meats to go into their tacos (a select few are for $ 0.99), they also offer a variety of Mexican tortas (sandwiches), burritos, whole chickens, rice, beans, and salsa. We initially tried their variety of tacos, particularly the lengua, al pastor, streak, and carnitas tacos. They come on doubled up corn tortillas, chopped onions and cilantro. Just delicious! They were all very good and we especially liked the al pastor tacos. We recently tried their burritos and their tortas. There is just nothing bad that you can get there. They also include grilled jalepenos and onions with every order as a nice side.
If you go there after work or during the hours that people typically get off work, you’ll find that the place is packed. Many people order the half chicken dinner which includes half a whole chicken, rice and beans.
Aside from their restaurant, it’s also a great place to run in a grab produce that you need in pinch. I like to stop there if I need avocados for that evening’s dinner or anything else (limes, cilantro, tomatoes, etc.) It’s a good go to for stuff like that.
If you’re craving authentic Mexican tacos, give this place a try. Even if it’s not your favorite, it’s a great price!

I love this place. I have been coming here for year! Their tacos and chicken are soo good and the price is so reasonable.
If you are close by, heck, even if you aren’t, swing by and pick up some chicken and tacos.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times. It’s good, but occasionally the food is really greasy. Ive had steak burritos where the grease eats through the tortilla and the whole thing has fallen apart

The restaurante serves Birria on the weekends. The dish could have had more meat but the flavor was fantastic, The tortas and tacos ive had also great.

I can’t believe this little gem of a place has tacos that are so good!
I mainly came here on the recommendation from a friend on the whole chicken meal deal for under $ 11 – 12.
The smackdown:
Yous get a whole (or a half if you want) grilled chicken (seasoned out of this world) + a stack of soft warm corn tortillas + a bundle of grilled pearl onions and whole jalapenos + hot and mild salsas + rice and beans (if you want).

I only used that delicious bird to make ONE taco, let me tell you, because the rest of the time I simply ate the bird as it was with my hands… I plucked that bird good (see what I did there?). The tortillas just got in the way if you ask me and ain’t NOBODY got time for that.
I’ve lived around this grocery store/​taco heaven haven for years and always drive past it on Irving Park Road. Why didn’t someone tell me about this joint sooner?! Yeah, it’s Y’ALLS fault, not mine.
Anyway, do your body good and stop on in this place. They’re quick, delicious, and don’t forget to grab a few Jarritos to quinch that chicken thirst you’re sure to have.

A friend was raving about the dollar tacos at Chapala, so we went post-​workout (probably not the best idea). On the short drive there, all we could talk about was how many tacos we were going to order! Ha, pathetic.
Sad day as the first thing we saw when we walked in (besides all the festive decorations) was a sign that said ‘tacos $ 1.69,’ hence the 4 star rating instead of a 5. Maybe it was for the best — we did end up ordering less tacos! You’re welcome, body.
Tacos al pastor were delicious, so were a bunch of the other ones (I don’t even remember what they were), but I don’t think you can really go wrong at a super authentic Mexican grocery store. We were also given a plate of grilled veggies — jalapenos, onions, etc. Post-​taco inhalation, we took a lap around the store. All kinds of meats, veggies, and other goodies.
I’m still a little upset about the $.69 raise in taco prices, buut I’ll probably be back!

LOVE this place. My first choice when I need to get groceries — and now, they even sell beer!

Just dropped my partner off at the Metra and on my way home figured would grab a couple Tacos for lunch and a Mexi Coke, then I saw the sign says .99 Tacos I was like hey I should check that out
So I go in and it is a full on Grocery with butcher and Veggies, like 15 limes for a $ 1 try to beat that price at Jewel or Aldi, I dare you! can’t do it can ya ?
so I get around back and the smell of chicken hits my noise and I am like whoa that smells good and I am hungry, so as I get closer I see this big ass grill just covered with cooking half chickens, and next to that a flat top grill that they are cooking taco meat on
so I am checking out the menu board and they guy asks what I want I am like ok ½ a Chicken and 2 Tacos El Pastor I will have lunch and dinner, all that for under $ 8 and they only put onions and cilantro on the Tacos !! I was so happy when he asked me if that’s how I wanted them and not if I wanted Tomatoes, cheese and lettuce on them thank you thank you thank you, I came in here for Mexican food and got it and the best so far that I have found
and they take plastic so don’t have to have cash on ya
good food fast and friendly service and they have booths so you can eat there I took mine home as I was alone
oh yeah we will be going back here tomorrow I think for dinner before my partner goes to work
