Wow, just stopped in on our way up to Gloucester. Delicious. Loved all of it. It’s a hole in the wall take-away joint. And it is well worth your visit~

I only tried their bbq sandwich. It was really good. Parking is very limited and standing room only inside. but i’d definitely eat there again

I was working in the area and saw the sign. With being a self proclaimed expert on «Carolina Style» BBQ I had to try it. Two«BIG» sandwiches later I think I’m hooked. Just like my uncle in Carolina used to make. The hot sauce could use some more heat, but delicious none the less! My order was just over $ 8.00 so I gave the young man two fives… No change! Didn’t bring it up because the service was extremely friendly and I was going to put it all in the tip jar anyway. I will return(possibly tomorrow) to enjoy again!

BBQ is pretty good and the sandwich is huge – respect for the reviewer that ate two. Not the best coleslaw but works well enough on the sandwich(order extra). Sometimes gets crowded inside the small building.

Great bbq. Go out of your way to stop here. As we were walking in a local gentleman mentioned«best bbq in town». Was was correct! Two bbq sandwiches«all the way» and beans for $ 12.

Good BBQ sandwich, meat was tender had a vinegary taste to it and a «hot sauce» of some sort, not really BBQ sauce, but this sandwich did not need any heavy sauces. Will return with friends next time. PS do not I repeat do not park in the lot located on Victoria the odor from the trash bin made we want to get back in my car and never return. The only other quirk is there is no aroma emitting from the restaurant. It’s like you’d never know what kind of deliciousness lies behind the front door. They must cook the meat elsewhere? Just a few things that make you go Hmmm.

Stopped in for BBQ sandwiches… this place is take out only(we just sat and ate in our car). The food is great; you get a good sized portion for a reasonable price. Canned beverages only… they should really get some sweet tea to round out the experience!

Wilkes is as close to a literal hole-in-the-wall barbeque place as you’ll find — no seating, just a storefront walk-up on Victoria Blvd, but the best tasting and most generous pulled pork Carolina-style barbeque sandwiches on the Peninsula. Also great coleslaw. Their menu includes barbeque chicken, ribs, and a number of sides in addition to the coleslaw, but all I’ve ever had is the barbque — quite enough for me! They provided barbeque and slaw for my wife’s 60th birthday party two years ago, and guests still talk about the barbeque after all this time. I cannot recommend the place too highly.
