The Barns At Hamilton Station

Absolutely loved this place. Charming, cozy place to sit by fire and drink delicious wine. Enjoyed the tasting, staff were great! The merlot and petite Verdot were excellent. I usually don’t like either of those but THESE were GOOD. That petite is to die for. WOW. Yes please. I recommend doing the basic tasting and buying a glass of Petite. And then a bottle. ;)

Very nice atmosphere and lovely wines. A great setting for any event.

This place was super cute. The bar area gets pretty busy. But there is a small upstairs for privacy you can have with a couch and tables.

Terrific atmosphere. Plenty of tables for your own picnic or you can purchase cheese and bread, etc there. We had the Bank Barn Red which was perfect for our hummus, bread and cheese from TraderJoes. This is one of the better wineries in the area. Just a fun, lively place.

The inside of the barn tasting room is super cute! We enjoyed a glass of wine of the deck, the scenery is ok. The wine was tasty but not very memorable.

Absolutely wonderful experience. The hospitality was exceptional and wine was nice enough that everyone found something to enjoy. The barn was so warm and cozy with live music.
This winery is on my ‘fall winery favorites’ for sure!!!

100% 5 stars. Such a great experience in all aspects. The family that owns the winery welcome guests and provide knowledgable and friendly tastings and their wines are some of the best in the area. In addition to the great wine, the ambiance is amazing. The rustic barn has so much charm and the outdoor area looks out over the mountains, a pond and has a big fire pit that was perfect for sipping a glass of wine by the fire on a chilly fall day. I will defiantly be headed back to this winery soon and will be bringing all my friends and family!

I love the rustic feel in this place … And I love that they have live music… such a beautiful relaxed feel great escape from the city to go enjoy some fresh air. The staff is super friendly … A favorite spot to come back to =)

I highly recommend this winery! It basically has it all — great selection of wines, friendly service, awesome music, and calming views. It’s also open on Federal Monday holidays — a big plus in my book.
I think the wine menu is pretty decent for the price. The mix between whites and reds and the port-​style option is cool. Susan was a great person to talk to, and she gave us a couple of extra tastings that weren’t on the menu. Plus, the tasting amounts seemed larger than I’ve experienced at other wineries in the area. There is an outdoor deck on the tasting room level as well as a downstairs patio. No shade on the upstairs deck, so bring your sunglasses! We enjoyed sitting up there, because you can still hear the music from down below and have a conversation at the same time. It’s the perfect volume. If you do head downstairs, the grassy area is huge and great for kids and dogs. There are tables to sit at and a pond in the distance. It’s no surprise this winery is known for hosting weddings throughout the year.
Bottom line: get a group together and head over to this winery. Use your VA wine pass if you have one! I guarantee you’ll find a wine to enjoy.

Another Michael Shaps-​assisted winery that does his name proud. Nice historic vibe too. With so many wineries around it it’s hard for one to stand out, but I liked this more than many of its neighbors.
The Barns is… well…a barn! Actually a 100 year old refurnished barn that gives it a very homey feel. It also has an amazing view of the manicured grounds and pond in the back. Ambiance? Check.
My server was very friendly and attentive. This tasting was free because on a previous visit I came late, so they gave me a free coupon and invited me to return again. It was hard to argue with free booze with a knowledgeable server. Hospitality? Double-​check.
The wine’s most defining characteristic was their wonderful color. Pretty much every single one of them I wanted to admire (before drinking). Wines which I tried:
2013 Petit Verdot: very good. They said it was newly bottled but I couldn’t tell. But it will get even better with age.
2012 Meritage: good. Actually I had an extremely hard time defining this one; I’ll just say I liked it.
2013 Cab Franc: little peppery, not bad at all.
HSV Harmony: light red blend. Not as nice as the others but still decent.
The whites? Well… lets just say they were either on the buttery or sweet side. Neither is my cup of tea (um…glass of wine?).
But my all time favorite was the 1910 Port-​style. It had a wonderful strong nose but surprisingly the body wasn’t overwhelming.
Most of their grapes are from Charlottesville; normally I prefer places that are estate grown, but they explained the local real estate is pricy, plus C-​Ville has a better climate for most of their grapes. Oh well; at least they get all but a small portion from VA.
So yeah… I’ll be back.

Very cute winery — in an old barn. Excellent staff! Wine was ok (I’m not a big fan of VA wines). We stayed inside at the tasting room to escape the heat, and there was plenty of room for our toddlers to play as well.

We stumbled upon this hidden gem on our way to West Virginia to visit my grandma. We were in town for a funeral and had some free time on a Saturday and we decided to go wine tasting in the «new to us» northern Virginia wine country!
We used to live in leesburg and after a short stop off of dry mill we decided to take some back roads to West Virginia and started seeing signs for The barns at Hamilton mill.
The barns are so rustic and the grounds are really well kept a with some fun lawn games and covered tables. They also had a food truck that was parked there serving people food.
The wines were spectacular and the girl serving us was really knowledgable and made the tasting really fun!
I’d be here every weekend with a picnic and a bottle of wine if I didn’t live all the way across the country!

Love this place. I highly suggest coming here on a Sunday around 3pm. Live music, wine, and good friends is always a good time!

I had never heard of this winery until a couple of weeks ago. Lured by an invitation to enjoy some live music with friends, we stopped in for the first time. My first impression driving up was questionable at best. I saw an uneven dirt path leading up to a somewhat run down silo sitting next to a barn. However, my impression changed completely when I entered the barn.
The tasting room is set in a rustic remodeled barn. The ambiance is comfortable and classy. There is a loft upstairs with additional seating. The main tasting bar was fairly crowded this Saturday, but what was nice is the staff set up additional tasting areas around the venue to include outside on the patio. We elected to just get a bottle and join our friends outside this time. There were several events going on in a room downstairs, but at no time did service at any of the tasting stations lack.
The patio is covered and large with a lovely view of the countryside to include cows grazing on the field below. This was shaping up to be one of the more enjoyable and relaxing Saturday afternoons I had experienced in a while. The wine we chose to try was the Cabernet Franc. While we didn’t do the tasting that day, we did get the opportunity to try a number of the wines that our friends were enjoying. I’ll have to say the Cabernet Franc was my absolute favorite — medium bodied with nice fruit. We also sampled the Viognier (refreshing on a hot day, but just a bit on the sweet side for my tastes), the Chardonnay (smooth, full-​bodied and not oaky in the least), the Merlot (my second favorite of the day — also medium bodied with red fruits and a nice finish with just a touch of oak) and the Syrah (my least favorite of all — too fruity for my tastes).
The Barns at Hamilton Station is a must stop in Virginia wine country. It can be a bit hard to find as the entrance comes up quickly and the tasting room sets back from the road. The wines are memorable and the price per bottle is reasonable (mid $ 20’s) as compared to other Virginia wines. Live music on the weekend is bonus. I would stop back again.

This stop caused my wife to scream. Well my driving to this place made her scream, audible gasps from the back seat at well… Well I see a winery I’m going to use my brakes & aggressive steering to get there!
Music came from a large barn, so what if it was a cover of a U2 song. It was a happening place!
Friendly & busy. Place was the the busiest winery on our tour so far. Cigars to be had too, however has none of them were Cuban I wasn’t going to start smoking here.
Good wines was the verdict from the now buzzed passengers.
Beautiful barn was my opinion, needs better songs to cover…

One of the best looking wineries I’ve ever seen. The rustic atmosphere of the barn and farmland makes you feel as if you were in the middle of Appalachia. Dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the bottom floor of the barn but not on the main floor.

Ended up at The Barns for an employee appreciation event. We were able to sample a few of their wines. The day that our event was hosted there was also Paella by Carlos that was selling paella and there was also live music.
The Barns is a very small vineyard then I’m used to but the venue itself (The Cellar) is very beautiful and rustic. There is even a patio outside with chairs and a beautiful view with a a small lake on the land.
Wines:
I got to try the Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Rose and the Viognier. All four were very good. The rose was not overly sweet was good. The Viognier was crisp and was a bit dry but not sweet at all. The Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot were both acidic but I didn’t mind it to much it just meant that the reds that they have are a bit younger.
Overall The Barnes is a nice place just to hangout with friends and enjoy the weather. Wine is pretty good also. Although I will say it is a bit hard to find the entrance to place and there aren’t too many signs telling you where the entrance to the vineyard is so if your not paying attention you might miss it.

We were doing a tour of Loudon vineyards and after hearing so many positives comments about this vineyard, it was on our «to-​do list!» We were happy to finally have the opportunity to stop in and were instantly very impressed to turn off the main road, in what seems like a quasi-​residential area and instantly feel like we were in the country!
The old barns that are setup as tasting room are beautiful, inside and out. The facilities in the main barn are clean and very well kept. It appears the basement is an event venue and is setup beautifully.
The grounds are beautifully kept and a nice place to enjoy a bottle with friends.
Staff was friendly and happy to have us there, even though we arrived within an hour of closing time and they were busy, we were still treated very nicely, with a smile and like a valued customer. They do have a nice selection of varietals and we look forward to going back and trying more!

New favorite Virginia winery, right here! My wine club friend and I headed here yesterday afternoon after Crushed Cellars and whoa, let me just say… I love the ambiance here so much, I’d get married here in a heartbeat! (And there was a wedding about to take place as we were finishing up; coincidence!) Such a cute winery; I love how rustic the inside of the barn is, the view from the balcony out back, the lake, the vines on the side… They also have great customer service, a laid-​back vibe, and good wines!
We started with a tasting ($ 7 without the glass, $ 10 with the glass; I believe we tasted 10 wines, so that’s not a bad deal!) once our other 2 wine club friends showed up and the tasting was delicious. Our tasting room associate, Nikki, gave us a quick background about The Barns and told us a little about each of the wines and where they are made (down near Charlottesville). The winemaker is Michael Shaps (yes, as in THEE Michael Shaps!) which probably explains why I liked the wines so much. Nikki even let us taste some of their fortified wine, which was the «usual» price of $ 40 (one of these days I’m just going to splurge!) — that one was amazing. Also loved the Shiraz (we ended up getting a bottle to take outside with us) and the Barn White.
Definitely recommend this quaint and rustic vineyard and will be returning soon!
