A bride calls the other day and she is clearly overwhelmed. «How am I supposed to pick the right photographer for my wedding day? There are so many of you and all with 5-​star reviews. I don’t want to make a mistake!» It is a daunting task, yes. If you are in her shoes, here’s what I think is truly going to help you…

1. Pick a few photographers that stand out to you and check out their blogs. These are going to show you their most recent work. Websites can be dated and often display only a few best images.

2. Do these photographers’ images make you feel? Can you sense the energy of that special day, or the family playing? Are wedding *stories* complete and spontaneous? Don’t get distracted by artsy post-​processing and special photoshop effects. You need to feel emotion that is raw, natural, not forced.

3. If you like what you see, ask to view a few full wedding galleries that are relevant to your wedding location and style.

4. Meet with the photographer in person. We are so intimately involved into your day that you need to feel the trust and connection and feel completely at ease.

5. Don’t buy into freebies and specials. Every couple has a photography budget but once you have found a photographer whose images you love and are comfortable around them, your search is complete. Smaller package from this person will make you much more happy than any other all-​inclusive coverage. Wedding pictures are for life.

History

Established in 2000.

The-​Magic-​of-​Light Photography dates back about 15 years. It was established as a collection of fine-​art photos captured on film. Soon after it started shifting its focus to special moments in our lives. Those that are fleeting yet define us. Those that create visual treasures for the people we love. Those that are able to keep memories alive and are always able to re-​live milestones regardless of the passage of time.

At age 10, I borrowed my father’s Pentax camera and headed out to the fields. I took my first photography class a year after under the guidance of a documentary filmmaker, developed first B&W and was hooked. I have never stopped «thinking in frames» since. I pursued a career in science that trained me to be thorough, precise, patient. But photography remained my passion and I am only truly happy when behind the camera.

My photography style is romantic, soulful, creative, candid.

I will capture moments you won’t even remember happening!

I love life. I admire true love. I am smitten with innocence a child brings to this life.

A fleeting moment of raw emotion is timeless. When captured in beautiful light, it becomes art.

I am a nature lover, backpacker, a foodie, guitar player and home brewer. I am also a mother to two little ones who constantly keep me on my toes… and in shape for full days of shooting!

I came across Nada as I was looking to have newborn photos taken of my daughter. Her portfolio is amazing. She uses light to capture really beautiful and scenic images. Her friendly and relaxed demeanor allow her to capture images of people, children included, in their true form. Nada did a wonderful job with my daughter and even brought props to add to the experience. She also took photos of my son and I was so please to actually see my son’s personality come through in the photos.
For the last four years, she has taken pictures of us and our children. In our family, she has worked with newborns up to 6 years old, and even our Labarador Retriever. She really has quite a touch with the kids. She always seems to know what to do to get everybody reigned in for a great shot. The pictures are always wonderful. Really amazing. They capture the personalities of us and our children. She can take great candid and action photos, along with posed shots. We have done sessions at our home and outdoors. Every year when we get our photos back, we are completely happy. They adorn the walls of our house as 5“x7“s all the way up to 2’x3’ canvas prints. We really can’t say enough great things about Nada and her work.

I was referred to Nada by another wonderful photographer. We met Nada In a beautiful forest by the ocean on a very foggy morning. She is an incredible artist. She quickly was able to figure out our nature and to engage my two little boys. The results are beautiful pictures that capture our essence. She is very professional and also adds a special sweetness and spontaneity to her job. I will be treasuring this pictures for the years to come.

When I was ready to propose to my then girlfriend, i knew i wanted to make it special. I wanted a candid shot of proposal and to capture the surprise on my girlfriends face, once i proposed. But I didn’t know where and how i should go about planning it. I contacted Nada and man did she make things easier on me.
Nada met me out at Half Moon bay (during a storm!!!) 2 weeks before the planned proposal date, to help me find the perfect spot to pop the question. She took some amazing pictures of me and my fiancé the day of and we can’t be happier with how they came out. We will definitely be contacting her for another session soon!

Nada has done incredible preschool photos of our daughter as well as a gorgeous set of family photos. The best word for her work is «wow». The photos truly have a magic quality and the moments she captures are living and vivid. He skills are clearly well honed, but her demeanor and positive energy must also be part of the special sauce because she brings out the best in her subjects, making them feel at ease. I would highly recommend Magic-​of-​Light for any and all occasions and certainly consider myself very lucky to have some of her work on my home’s walls.

I have always been skeptical of paying a photographer to photograph my family for several reasons, but after I convinced myself that it was worth a try at least once while my children are small and super cute, Nada has changed my opinion.
I thought that with all the digital photography that we surround ourselves these days that I did not need to spend money on a formal shoot but now I am so glad that I did. Nada’s presence is very light-​hearted, relaxed, and fun which worked so well with my children and wife that we all had a really good time during the shoot and that translated to a wonderful product that we will cherish forever.
The magic of light is a perfect name for her work as the pictures she took immediately stand out from anything that we have in our family photo albums. I am not sure if it is her camera, her knowledge of light, or the touching up process that she does after the shoot, but the finish product did seem a bit magical.
The only difficult part of the process was narrowing down our favorite photos. Nada was very patient with us and did not rush us at all. Any special requests I had she just rolled with it. We will never hire another photographer for our family needs as long as Nada is in the Bay Area, and she even offers 15% discount for return customers.

Nada is the most sweet, kind and talented photographer. She photographed my husband and I’s wedding on March 1 and did the most amazing job. Not only was she a pleasure to work with, but everyone loved her. She made it so easy for us and captured all the magical moments. She takes her time, makes sure to get the best shots with the best background and you can tell that she really cares about her clients. I would highly recommend Nada! Nada has been our photographer for the most precious events our life as we «worked» with her for our wedding, two pregnancies and casual newborn photos. She really loves what she does and hasn’t stopped improving her style over the years. She is very calm, patient and lets you be natural and candid. Nada was my wedding photographer in October 2012 and we were very happy with Nada– she was a pleasure to work with and her photographs were absolutely gorgeous! I am so happy we went with Nada!
I interviewed several photographers, all found via Unilocal.I saw that Nada had photographed at our venue before, so that was a plus. We got married on the beach in Montara and lucked out w/​gorgeous weather. Nada’s photos are amazing and beautiful, very artistic. All our friends and families who have seen our wedding photos comment that the photos are gorgeous. I would highly recommend Nada, no hesitation.
On our wedding day, we had a little bit of a hitch with a different/​unrelated wedding vendor being 2 hours late, thereby making my husband and I miss our intended time to take pre-​wedding photos. However, I am amazed that despite the stress that i was feeling, Nada got some amazing pre-​wedding photos. She was calm, even though I’m sure my stress was palpable.
All in all, very satisfied with Nada. Now… if only I could find an excuse to hire her again!

Let me just spill my guts for a little bit first…
I have severe body image issue and being pregnant has not made this any better. I have very bad acne on my face and bad teeth covered with braces. I think I am an ugly mother-​to-​be. BUT in spite of this I am thrilled to be pregnant and I feel that this time in my life should be documented.
I have never hired a photographer before and Nada made this first time a fun and enjoyable experience. She made me feel completely at ease and the shots she took of me took me by surprise. I actually am not that ugly! She really brings out the beauty in me. I can’t wait for her to do my newborn baby shots!

I found Nada on Craigslist of all places several years ago. I hired her to photograph a family reunion. Since then, she has photographed my immediate family two more times. She has a beautiful photographic style — — portaits and candids. And she is very patient! We have a 3 year old and an 18 month old and she had no problem «going with the flow» in our latest shoot where the kids were running around practically the entire time. I’m not sure how she was able to capture so many special little moments in all of that chaos, but she did! I highly recommend her!

Nada photographed our newborn when he was 18 days old. She had a terrific manner with the baby. She was very patient and was able to keep him calm and get him to pose in various positions. The quality of her work is excellent and we are extremely happy with the photos we got from the shoot.

Nada was our wedding photographer a few years ago and we hired her again recently, after having our new baby. Both times we were very happy with her work. She did a great job at the wedding and again at our baby session, never disappointed us and really exceeded our expectations. Our baby was «a tough ball» during the photo session. I wanted to share with everyone how much we loved working with Nada and Rebekah! We planned this wedding for 9 months and it was without a doubt a family wedding, and one of the most important things we probably have ever done. After working with so many vendors and having to connect and trust a lot of different people to ensure that Deb and Matt’s day was wonderful, I want to say that Nada was absolutely amazing. She had a calm presence, and we felt completely at ease with her and most importantly she took the most beautiful pictures of our little girl. We met with Nada many months ago and asked her to be our wedding photographer. Couldn’t be happier with the way the pictures came out!
The pictures are absolutely beautiful and everything we hoped for. She was awesome, eventhough we had many kids running around — she stayed calm and got great shots of the little ones. We were afraid we’d get no pictures of the kids but we have plenty. She made her way around the room capturing moments that made us smile, cry and laugh. Nada has phtographed all my children and I love the pictures! She did a shoot with all three, one ended up on our Christmas card. She did another shoot with my daughter before she cut off all her hair for donation to cancer kids. All the photos are absolutely beautiful. The only downfall I have is picking my favorite.
