Oceano Coastal Spa

My thoughtful and loving group of lady friends treated me to a spa day at Oceano as a gift after I got married. This beautiful spa was a breeze to get to and located within walking distance of some amazing shops, restaurants, and scenery. Service was superb! Stephanie gave me an amazing massage and was very knowledgeable about detox methods for the skin. I really enjoyed our conversation and the wonderful massage and scrub. I am a chatter when I receive services, and she made the experience pleasant and memorable. Five solid stars!

I had an awesome spa day at the Oceano Spa for my birthday this year. I really needed some serious pampering, as I was coming off of six incredibly stressful months that included taking care of my partner while he did chemo, getting fired from my job, and getting hit by a car while riding my bike. So I just needed someone to be nice to me.
Still, I was a little nervous about having a spa day. I’ve never done anything like that before, and I’m not very fancy. But I needed to do something really nice for myself.
I picked the Royal Treatment because it was the longest spa package they offered.
When I arrived, I was instantly shown into a peaceful waiting room with tea and water and comfy chairs. I was only there a few minutes when Athena, who was like my own personal relaxation-​fairy for the day, came in and took me to my room. Athena was the sweetest person, and also so down to earth. She instantly put me at ease. She talked with me throughout the treatment, but also gave me lots of quiet time. She always checked in with me to make sure I was doing ok, or to see if I needed a break. I can’t imagine a better person to get pampered by.
The royal treatment includes a relaxing bath with scented bath salts and a glass of champagne, a body scrub, a body mask and wrap, a facial, and a swedish massage. I actually prefer much deeper massage modalities, but everything was so relaxing the massage almost didn’t matter. I never once felt rushed, and in fact I thought they were quite generous with the time.
I would highly recommend this spa, and Athena in particular. She was so great, and I felt so cared about by her that we hugged when I left.

Wow, what a beautiful location, a little pricey, but perfect for our anniversary splurge. The room was gorgeous, the balcony overlooking the harbor was very relaxing. There are several good restaurants right down the street. Great service, let us have a late checkout even though the room was booked four that night. Very clean, beautifully appointed. Will definitely be back.

As a local, I appreciate the Oceano Spa’s value and always have a nice spa experience (I try to make time to go every other month). Prices are reasonable for a spa here on the coast — check the specials on their website. As other posters have mentioned, its basically the service itself. There isn’t a spa, sauna or other amenities. Parking is easy and its easy access to Hwy 1 (particularly nice during the weekends out here).

Found a spa massage deal though Groupon and was so disappointed. While the ambiance and décor are lovely, my massage therapist was very amateur. I feel bad saying that, since she was very nice. However, if you’re paying top dollar for a spa massage, the therapist should be experienced and talented. Unfortunately, there was barely any pressure used in the massage. Though I provided feedback asking for more pressure, my masseur, though very sweet, just did not seem to know what she was doing. That said, the bath soak was nice and relaxing, as was my facial. Though I would not recommend the massage services.

My treatment at Oceano on Saturday was one of the best I’ve ever had. My therapist Katherine (Kat) was fabulous. Her work was great but what made it extra wonderful was all the little thoughtful touches she added (warm neck wrap, heated blanket because the room was chilly, frequently checking in about her pressure, the temperature, etc). It was obviously really important to her that my treatment was perfect and she succeeded… it was!
So I give Kat 5 stars (10 if I could!) but my rating overall for the spa is 4 stars — only because of the facility. For a high end spa, you hope to have access to a steam room, sauna, hot tub, or at least showers as part of the experience. Oceano doesn’t have any of those facilities. And the receptionist staff wasn’t particularly welcoming. (The check in process and waiting room felt more like a doctor’s office than a spa really).
But no worries — Kat more than made up for those shortcomings and I’ll definitely be back! Thanks Kat!

We recently stayed at the hotel and my husband purchased the Groupon for me to visit the spa. I wanted to write a review because I honestly thought this was one of the best spa visits that I’ve ever had!
The only thing to be aware of is that the spa is small, so there aren’t any amenities — no checking in and getting a locker, changing into a robe, and using the steam and sauna… However, there is a lovely and cozy waiting room, and the treatment room was also nice, and I felt comfortable just changing there.
The treatment was wonderful — it was such a perfect combination of things — brushing (heavenly), massage, and a mini facial. The pressure and attention to various areas was absolutely perfect! The therapist was wonderful (I think it was Athena) and I was sooooo relaxed! I highly recommend… :)

Does ‘hot stone foot treatment’ mean that I soak my feet in hot water with stones?
Well, that is what they charging you for: to bathe your feet in hot water with salt and stones., not actually massaging your feet with not stones.
And I was charged for the full hour when it was really for 45 minutes.

The staff was very friendly and squeezed my last minute appointment in. The spa is very clean, serene and comfortable. Jenny was my massage therapist and she was very attentive to my comfort and she tailored my massage to my requests, not too firm, I really felt relaxed after my spa package! Thanks so much again! Keep up the great customer service! I will be back next trip!

Service on ¹¹⁄₂₂. Came here for my cousin’s birthsay spa party. Love the ambience of the spa. We got to use the back room to wait for our massage, mini facial and foot rub. The place was beautifully decorated and the bathrooms were clean! Customer service was great they checked in with us frequently and made sure that all our needs were taken care of. I would definitely recommend this spa to others. I will be back with my husband for a couples get away in the near future!

Wow, what a waste! It was a special day for my boyfriend (birthday). I thought this was going to be a wonderful experience, if not wonderful, at least decent. .WRONG! My massage was so awful. They start late first of all, then spend an hour oiling you up minus the massage.
If you ask for more pressure nothing happens (a quick «ok» and nothing changes). During the couples massage my boyfriend repeatedly asked for the guy to increase pressure and I did the same. Not one thing changes after you ask! My boyfriend is the type to never complain about anything so when he said it was the terrible I knew it had to be bad.
We basically had an expensive oil treatment. There was ZERO muscle in this massage. Deep tissue, yeah right, I’ve given myself a better massage. I will say both the masseuses were polite. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it was THE WORST MASSAGE ever. Sorry won’t be back unless I need an excessive oiling down. Shoot, should’ve gone to the Ritz Carlton.

My husband an I just finished w a soak and couple massage. Such a great way for us the relax and celebrate our 12 yr anniversary. I had Carmina for my massage and my husband had Lisa. Both were amazing. We will be back

This spa is in the little mall adjacent to the hotel. I enjoyed by treatment, but without a spa locker room/​pool area, I thought it was overpriced.

Norma was fantastic! Very attentive, thorough and right amount of massage pressure. She hit all the tight muscles in my body. Sweet orange essential oil was wonderful. The tropical bath was very nice to start with to relax mind and body to be prepared for the massage. The waiting area and the bath/​massage room were clean, pleasant and beautiful. Really nice day spa getaway. Come early to relax with some tea in the waiting area. Convenient parking under the hotel. The lady at the reception desk when I left was also very friendly and helpful.

I am surprised to see that this spa only gets 3.5 stars here on Unilocal!
We just returned from this spa (Oceano), to our hotel room at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay, and we had an amazing experience at Oceano!
We enjoyed a 90 minute couples massage with a signature flower bath and foot reflexology. Both of our therapists were great! The bath was a nice touch to start with before the massages. The facility was clean and nicely decorated. It was quiet, the temperature was nice and the music was relaxing. The massage tables were comfortable.
The massages were fantastic and were some of the better ones we have experienced. Our therapists were Athena and Emily. They were both very friendly, applied just the right pressure and didn’t talk too much, only when necessary to check on the pressure, etc.
(We have been to spas all over the country at 5 star hotels and we enjoy spa services monthly.)
As an added bonus to our great experience, We saved probably at least $ 400 than what we would have spent for the same services at the Ritz. And we both felt that the services received could not possibly have been any better at the Ritz than what we enjoyed at Oceano.
We would definitely return to Oceano if we were to return to Half Moon Bay.

While on our romantic long weekend, the man and I wanted to get a little pampered. Lucky for us, we were staying at the Oceano Hotel (I have a review on that, too!) which is attached the shopping center where this spa is located. We had made our reservations earlier in the week for a 60 minute couples massage. We drove up the coastal way, and realized we wouldn’t be making it to Half Moon Bay in time for our massages. We called a few hours before our scheduled time and they were kind enough to let us reschedule for Sunday morning without any additional fees.
1 star for that!
I’ll start by explaining we LOVE massages; we go to Burke Williams Santa Monica (Hey! i reviewed them, too!) whenever we can afford to, which comes out to a few times a year. So when we looked at the prices, we were pleased to see that they were comparable to what we’d expect from a quality spa. However BW does offer amenities to use (sauna, steam room, pool etc.) that Oceano spa does not have. Now, on to the experience itself.
We got to the spa 10 – 15 minutes before our appointment (as we were told) to fill out our paperwork. We were greeted at the door and led down a hall to their lounge area. Very comfy, pillow filled nooks in the wall to sit in, water, tea & fruit offered on a nearby table. The forms were standard, and within a few minutes, our masseurs were greeting us. We had Carmina & Lillian, who guided us towards the couples room. They showed us where to place our things, instructed us on how to get under the sheets & left us to it. The room itself was dimly lit, had a HUGE brass tub in the middle — they also offer couples baths & I plan on going back just for that!
Both the man & I thoroughly enjoyed our massages. We each put ours as a «top 3» experience. The ladies were very attentive, making sure the pressure was just right, focused on areas we asked for & keeping the environment calm. The tables were warmed just slightly, which was good as the room itself was a bit chilly. They had a large rug between the two tables, otherwise the floor is tile — so be prepared for that.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience, Carmina & Lillian know what they’re doing & for their hands alone we’d consider going back. The price is a little high, but not shockingly so. If they had groupons or living social deals I’d definitely buy a couple.

Before you read any further let me just say that if you book a massage here ask for Christina. The end. I have had MANY and I mean MANY massages, all over the world in fact, and Christina is amazing. She literally has a 6^th sense about massage, where to focus on, pressure, when to talk and when not to talk. All of those are hard to find in ONE massage therapist. I can’t recommend her enough. I had a 60 min deep tissue massage and it is now my most favorite massage experience of all time. No joke. She even threw in some reflexology on my feet which felt like a full body massage all on its own.
The place is CLEAN, super clean in fact. Lovely rooms, airy, big well kept. The bathrooms are also beautiful & clean. I was the first appointment of the morning but all the candles were lit, music was on, bed was warm. Impressive. So impressive in fact that I can forgive the one wonky musical track (Arabian Dance from The Nutcracker Suite with crashing waves in the background??? WTH???) that distracted me from my massage for 2 minutes, but I had a good laugh over it so, there ya go.
At checkout there were lots of really nice things for sale, but no pressure to buy which I really appreciate. Shelves were so clean and not dusty. Staff super courteous. I am now trying to figure out how to get back here during the year because I enjoyed it that much. Thanks Oceano Spa for a great massage experience.

We arrived for our appointment (couples massage and lavender bath) on time and were taken to the back room. It was nice, but our appointment was at 3 and they were close to 10 minutes late taking us back (15 min. early + 10 min. late= a LOT of time to just sit around). Our masseuses arrived and took us to the massage room. The bath was very nice and definitely helps you relax prior to your massage.
I had a Swedish massage and my masseuse, Stephanie, was awesome. Good pressure, didn’t try to talk to much… by the end I was stifling the urge to sleep. My husband had a deep tissue massage (Ben) and his experience was… interesting. First, he talked too much (and loudly). At one point he put some oil on his hands and put them up to my husband’s face (which was in the massage table) and said, «smell my fingers.» WTH? Then he pretty much ignored the problem areas my husband asked him to work on; he also said that his hands were very dry most of the time and it was like sandpaper across his back. He finally ended the experience by draping a hot towel over ONE foot (??). I felt so bad for my husband, as this was a surprise and was supposed to be a relaxing experience. Oh well. I still left a tip and didn’t say anything… maybe I should have.

4 Stars for my wife’s relaxing Swedish massage.
–1 star for my unbelievably weak, scam of a «deep tissue» massage (which costs $ 15 extra)
–5 for customer service.
This is the follow up email I sent after no-​one responded to my complaint at the desk (still no response!)
«I was actually very disappointed with my massage, and the reaction from the desk when I mentioned it. My „deep tissue“ was not even close, and when I mentioned it to the kid at the desk, he not only ignored it, but made sure to let me know that I had the option to increase the already included gratuity.
Not good. Not good at all.»

This place was amazing!
The staff were very calm, kind and made us feel right at ease. They have an adorable lounge where you come in and fill out a brief questionnaire so they know of any medical conditions or allergies to be wary of.
Then they take you into the room where you will have your treatments (great décor and music!) Ours were amazing — make sure you try the tea bath and hot stone couples massage! The ladies walked us through everything beforehand and let us relax on our own in the bath. We came out feeling nice and warm and relaxed. The oils and salts in the bath made my skin feel so nice and soft.
Then they let us know it was time to slip under the covers on the massage table and gave us a few minutes before they came in. It was the first time I had a hot stone massage and it will not be the last =] My masseuse was very attentive and checked in every once in a while to make sure the pressure and heat she was using were alright.
It was my first time at a spa so this may not be very objective, but I really felt like everything was perfect. The décor, scents and music were very relaxing, the staff very professional, kind, relaxed and attentive…
Take a stroll around the small shops next to the spa afterwards and try some taffy!
