Description

Specialties

No doubt we have the greatest fish tacos anywhere. But many folks come from miles around to enjoy our fish and chips too. We cook with rice oil and a special tempura batter that makes the fish delightful and not heavy tasting.

History

Established in 1992.

Joe, the bosses husband, started a donut shop in the original location (across the street) in the early 90’s. It bombed. So he recruited his wife, Reenie, to help revive the place. It was renamed the Flying Fish Grill (Joe was into aviation at the time) and they came up with a couple of great menu items; the Crab Supreme sandwich and their legendary fish tacos. These were hits and soon after followed fish and chips and Reenie’s cioppino recipe. Since then, the FFG has been renowned in many magazines and newspapers for great seafood. Sunset Magazine compared the Flying Fish Grill to The Franciscan and the Cliff House in San Francisco as one of the best seafood stops on the coast. The reviews speak for themselves. There are many fine beaches and places to stop and enjoy the seashore in San Mateo County. But when the beach-going and sightseeeing are over, there’s only one place to eat — Flying Fish Bar and Grill.

Business Owner

Reenie is the boss. She rules with an iron spatula. The FFG is a garden oasis in a sea of asphalt with great food at a reasonable price. Reenie’s goal is to provide customers with very fresh seafood cooked to perfection without overwhelming the delicate natural flavors with overpowering sauces and herbs. Even her fish and chips are tempura battered and cooked in expensive rice oil for just the right light texture.
