History

Established in 2009.

In March of 2009, business partners Kara Shamsa Houck and Thomas Merrill began their practice in the hallway of My Pilates Place with 4 chairs. They moved their practice to its present location in 2010. Thomas left the practice in 2011, leaving the practice with Shamsa. In the Fall of 2015 when Shamsa’s husband was accepted into chiropractic school in Portland, Or, they decided to make a big change in their lives and move out West. I had been practicing privately here since July and was given the opportunity to buy the business. Shamsa and I became friends over the years that I was a patient and both Thomas and Shamsa gave me incredible support while in school. I am blessed to be able to continue their vision of offering affordable acupuncture.

Two years ago, psychologist Dr. Tara Louchery moved her counseling practice to Sufi. We both envision growing into a wellness center to offer yoga, meditation, and other classes.

Meet the Business Owner

Candice C.

Business Owner

Hello, I’m the new owner of Sufi Acupuncture & Healing. I grew up here in Hagerstown and feel excited to be a part of the revitalization of downtown. I am honored to be able to practice in my hometown and to share my love of acupuncture and other healing arts. I received my degree, Master of Acupuncture, from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia) in May of 2015. I began treating in the student clinic there in May of 2012. I am also a licensed massage therapist having graduated from the Baltimore School of Massage in 2000, as well as a practitioner of Reiki.

I am also a musician and have played many shows in Hagerstown and the surrounding area over the years. Dancing and yoga are an important part of my life, as well. Moving our bodies makes it easy to let go of emotions and thoughts that do not serve. I look forward to bringing in wonderful teachers of yoga, dance, meditation, as well as art exhibits and musical performances. I hope to see you soon!
