Wow. I worked out here for two weeks while visiting in Hagerstown. The bad thing about this place is that it raised my expectations for all other fitness facilities and there isn’t a Studio 6 where I live! What it is: Studio 6 is a classy, upscale fitness facility that is locally owned and operated by folks who love their job and love people. Studio 6 reminds me of the type of workout facility that you’d find at a 5-star resort crossed with a relaxing spa atmosphere. Corinna and her husband, Brent, treated me like family from the moment I walked in the door and have gone out of their way to make sure that I feel welcome and have everything that I need. There is a wide assortment of cable-driven machines, full dumbbell rack, wide assortment of benches, as well as non-conventional, functional items to use such as Bosu balls, TRX, and even a skateboard over in the corner tucked away. The locker room is incredibly clean, quiet and the showers have shampoo and bodywash dispensers and keys to the lockers are available at the front desk, so you don’t need to bring a lock. At the counter are cold, eucalyptus towels that are a treat after a hard workout. Group classes are a blast. I took the Saturday morning spin class and was welcomed by name by the spin instructor. All of the equipment is wiped down by the helpful and courteous staff after use, which was something I wasn’t used to. As a habitual clorox-wipe cleaner, I’m used to wiping down all of my gear after I’m done. I feel like a bum if I don’t, but someone is cleaning this place, because I would eat my lunch off of the floor. Overall, it’s a tight-knit, high quality, fitness experience. What it isn’t: Studio 6 is not a cut-rate, 40,000 sq ft facility with a cardio theater and Zumba and cardio kickboxing classes starting every hour. It isn’t a place where people are throwing weights down, yelling, grunting and squatting 2500 pounds. There are no bodybuilding posters on the wall or the obligatory muscle diagram poster. Those things are okay in the appropriate context, but that’s not this kind of place. It isn’t a place with 75 treadmills and 100 ellipticals, although there certainly isn’t a shortage of any equipment. They don’t sell workout apparel, they don’t sell blender bottles or NO Xplode. They don’t apply the high-pressure personal training sales pitch and make you feel like an idiot if you don’t buy it, although they are there to help if the need arises. There isn’t music blaring to get you«pumped», it’s actually pretty quiet in there allowing you to focus and bring your own tunes. This isn’t a place where you scan your card and go on your way, but rather are greeted when you come in the door by name and, as a newbie, I was even introduced to other members! Bottom line: When you book a hotel, if you just need a place to crash for the night, you stay at the Motel 6. It’s cheap and it gets the job done. If you want to feel great the next day and actually enjoy your stay, you stay at a Courtyard. If you’re looking for a treadmill to use for the cheapest monthly rate, go somewhere else. But if you want to feel great and enjoy yourself as your work toward your fitness goals, Studio 6 is your place.

I visited Studio 6 while on business in Hagerstown and I was totally surprised to find such a great place! This is a spotless, modern, beautiful health club with personalized service and friendly local owners. Studio 6 would give any club in LA a run for their money, too bad I live so far away!
