The Bagel Shoppe

I have been in living in the area for over 10 years, this place has steadily gone down hill enough so that I returned food today for a refund, nothing is fresh nothing is made correctly, and to be extremely blunt the place is looking worn down and unkept. The young kids that are employed are not trained so there is no consistent product being offered.
10 years ago maybe a 3 star revue but now I would tell everyone to go to Goldberg’s on route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights everything is better there it’s not even a close.

Not bad bagels… much better then the average

Delicious bagels. Friendly, attentive staff. They make the coffee perfectly. Have only tried the bagels but everything else looks delicious. Very good veggie cream cheese. Would like them to offer whole wheat mini bagels, but I understand… Thumbs up, even from my friend the New Yorker who swears by the ny bagel, well this shoppe will give the ny bagel a run for its money any day.

Friendly staff, fast service, good sized bagels — not too big not to small.
Easy in and out parking, convenient location. Their baker’s dozen is 14 bagels and a good deal for a crowd.
Definitely my favorite bagel place in the Hackensack area, and recommend to anyone.

Decent bagels, but in this area decent doesn’t cut it. I asked for ketchup, salt and pepper on my egg sandwich — it came plain. I would only return if desperate.

So my bf has gone there twice to pick us up food:
*The first time he stood there for like 10 minutes and nobody even acknowledged him being there. He left and got food elsewhere.
*Fast forward 3 months or so we decided to try it again. He asked for 2 coffees made differently… He sees the girl making one of them incorrectly and asked for it to be corrected, she refused and continued making the coffee. (He paid for them anyway) When he was ready to leave he had to ask for a coffee cup holder. He asked for two bagels w turkey bacon, egg and cheese. He complained about his being short on cheese and on mine the egg and turkey bacon was charred and tasted burnt. The bagels were good, fluffy, fresh and flavorful but the stuff on it fell short.
Overall the food was pretty good but the customer service wasn’t good. It really is a shame because this place has potential.

Sam and his crew have fixed the reasons why I only gave them 3.5 last year. Bagels are always plentiful now, and the «schmears» are more consistent. The folks behind the counter are always friendly, and service is quick, even when very crowded on a weekend morning.

Awesome service with a smile. They have my son a mini bagel and now he doesn’t want to go anywhere else. The bagels are great.

My favorite Bagel shop of all! Sam and his staff are awesome. The bagels are always fresh. I’m a plain bagel with butter warm (as in fresh out of the oven) kind of a girl. It is sheer perfection. All of there other bagels are outstanding. I bring them to all of my family members that have moved from this area. Everyone raves about the French Toast bagel with cream cheese. Also the garlic bagel and onion bagel are flavored to perfection.

While we were visiting town from Baltimore, my wife, some friends, and I looked up for a Bagel shop, and found this one. The place was very small, yet it was very big in flavor, and value. The service was excellent, and the food was great. We loved it so much, we had to to stop the following morning before we left town. We bought some more bagel sandwiches, and some two dozen bagels to go. We will go there again.

It’s an average deli. Their bagels are average size and average flavor. I’ve tried their poppy seed, everything, garlic, wheat, and sesame varieties. They carry a standard selection of beverage choices.
Thumann’s is their deli meat of choice. And they have a $ 10 minimum for credit/​debit cards. They offer up to 8 different cream cheese toppings. There are no tables or counter top seating.
I’ve been here enough times to know that you’re not going to be wowed, but that also means that you’re not going to be disappointed either.

We initially decided to try a different bagel shop this weekend because we heard through the grapevine that The Bagel Shoppe makes a good French Toast bagel. Sadly, it did not live up to our hopes and fantasies (that honor is still reserved for the best French Toast bagel in the universe at JT’s Bagel Hut in Forked River, NJ). The Bagel Shoppe’s French Toast bagel is a slightly sweet bagel dusted with cake crumbs (?) WTF? I was expecting a sweetened, cinnamon swirled, lightly coated with maple syrup and dusted with powder sugar mouth orgy… well, that didn’t happen. Skip the french toast bagel.
However…all the other bagels we tried were very, very good as other reviewers have noted. The real surprise this weekend was the Flagel and Bialy.
Flagel= flattened bagel. For all you carb conscioius dieters, don’t get excited. It may appear smaller but, in reality, it has merely been flattened prior to baking. Flagel sightings are not very common, and my husband loves these mutant bagels.
Bialy= a chewy, yeast roll that is similar to a bagel. Bialys are not boiled prior to baking (like bagels are) and are flatter and denser. They don’t have a hole in the center but a cute dent and the tops of Bialys are sprinkled with diced onions and poppyseeds.
Both the flagel and bialy at The Bagel Shoppe are superb! I just love a good bialy.
For a little backround on the bialy… they originated in Bialystock, Poland (cue Mel Brooks in The Producers) and were introduced to the United States by immigrating Eastern European Jews. Well, let me tell you… this Polish shiksa loves bialys and The Bagel Shoppe makes some really tasty ones.
Who says you can’t get a good bialy outside of the Lower East SIde? Don’t believe the New York food snobs… no need to schlepp to NYC when you can get a great bialy in NJ.

Friendly staff, good veggie cream cheese, yummy jalapeño and whole wheat everything bagels. I frequent maybe once a month when I’m in that area.

Every Sunday morning! Sammie is the best, you will get good service and if you are in a rush or have a big order you can call it in ahead!

This jersey girl isn’t overly impressed, but it’s a clean place with okay bagels, nice staff, and interesting kinds of bagels (french toast, jalapeño, russian pumpernickel, whole wheat everything, etc.). I wouldn’t protest if someone wanted to go there, but I wouldn’t go out of my way either.

This bagel place is awesome! I’m partial to the multi-​grain and pumpernickel with and without sesame seeds. Other bagels just don’t compare to these made fresh daily and continuously on weekends. Sam and his wife, the owners are friendly and care about the customers.
You will NOT be sorry getting your bagels from The Bagel Shoppe. I’ve just moved and miss this place terribly!

So finally after three years I came back to this place last weekend and I dragged my boyfriend with me as well with promises that this place has the best bagels I ever had.
Now I am aware that I havent had what seems to be the privilege to eat at Ess– A Bagel and some of the other highly rated bagel places in NYC but I still believe that this place is amazing.
The bagels feel so fresh and soft, they put just the right amount of cream cheese and the price for my plain bagel (with cream cheese and tomato, I dont think they charge much or anything for the tomato) came out to 1.70 something. I would say not bad at all.
My boyfriend had the everything bagel with cream cheese toasted. He said they put just the right amount of everything on it, what most places according to him fail to do .
So what do we have here?
Bagel– soft, fresh, good amount of cream cheese
Price– more than decent
and also the tea there is awesome (I got cranberry apple I believe), so is the coffee
In conclusion– still highly recommended, and I am eagerly planning my return!
