On 1 March 2010, Honest 1 Auto Care moved into Gresham Oregon at 1690 NE Division St. We have kept the Mechanics who were working at this location and added more to help increase our service capabilities for this community.

Business Owner

Keith and Steve are partners who own Honest-​1 Auto Care here in Gresham. Both have been in the US Army in various capacities for over 20 years. Both responded when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, and both deployed to Afghanistan in 2006. Their goal in Gresham is to be a good neighbor and provide a good service to their neighbors there. Steve is the business manager with over 15 years of industry experience in the care repair industry. Keith has a background in safety and risk management, as well as in marketing. Keith will be the marketing person in Portland, and Steve will manage the internal business.

Their store manager Susie will work with both Keith and Steve to provide outstanding customer service to their clients and ensure we meet their needs in a positive proactive manner.

They are very nice and do a great job. I trust their advice and the prices are very reasonable… there is always a coupon to use! The waiting room and restrooms are clean and there is always cold soda in the fridge! Great customer service.

Honest1 isn’t too honest. I took my car in to get my radiator fixed, and they wanted to charge 700 to put in a new one, I did it myself for 100 and only took a couple hours. Another time, I wanted to get my car looked at because something electrical was wrong with it. And they wanted to charge $ 100 just to look at it. No thanks! I checked it myself and it turned out it was a short fuse, it cost me $ 5 to get the fuse and only 5 secs to switch it out. Honest1 reminds me of jiffylube, a big SCAM! They get over on people who know not one thing about cars, but people who have a just the basic knowledge of there own vehicles know that they are being ripped off. Do not go here!

I was referred to Honest-​1 Auto Care by a friend of a friend. I traveled to Portland from San Jose, CA in search of a food truck to purchase. Before leaving for our long road trip, we wanted to make sure that the truck would make it back and we wouldn’t be stranded in the middle of nowhere.
At first we called around other shops and they were quoting us $ 120 (which seem a little expensive but we didn’t mind) for a bumper to bumper inspection, but said they couldn’t guarantee that it would be done by the end of the day (even if we brought it first thing in the morning!).
Frantic that we would be stuck in Portland for another day or two, my friend started making calls around to friends he had in the area. He referred us here and I’m really glad he did!
The woman that helped us ensured that it wouldn’t take more than an hour or two to do the inspection. The tech did a thorough job inspecting the truck (even checking horn and brake lights!) and test drove the truck for driveability issues.
After he was all done, the tech went through the checklist with us and went over a few concerns he found. He said we should address these issues when we were back in California, but our truck will be ok making it back. The best part was the inspection was only $ 65, half of what the other shop wanted to charge us. They were even nice enough to say that we can leave the truck at their shop as long as we needed because we still needed to check out of our hotel and return our rental car.
We made it back to California with no issues. It was great having peace of mind driving back. Can’t thank Honest-​1 enough!

Don’t know what it is about this company. But I’ve brought 3 of my cars here. And each time they messed up on the type of vehicle they were servicing. First it was an oil change for a CX-​9 and they had listed a protégé when I picked up the car. Then we got a new car, I called it in. They got all the info they needed (or at least I thought they did). They asked for the year, make, model and engine size. We made an appt and even after all the questions, they STILL had the CX-​9 listed for service. It didn’t happen to 1 car but 2. And even if they give you a 30−45min window, expect it to be there double that time. I was there an hour and a half for an oil change even after making an appt. Time to move to a better shop who can be a little more attentive cause if their messing up on the info im giving them, what’s to say their not messing up under the hood?

New to this area. Looking for a shop for transmission service. Made an appointment over the phone and stopped in to check out the shop. I was quoted a price for the service upon telling the receptionist my vehicle info. I arrived early for the appointment. Nearly a half hour into what was supposed to be an hour appointment, I was informed the service for my pickup was going to be much more costly than originally quoted. I decided to go ahead with the service as I didn’t want to postpone due to leaving on a trip the next day. I was given the excuse that the person that quoted the original cost was «new», being there for only 6 months. Long story short, I will look at other options in the future.

I brought my car in recently for a quote. They told me over the phone that an inspection would be free, but it ended up being $ 100. That’s fine, I understand. I received a service from them, and I paid for it. I just wish they told me up front I needed to pay for it.
I guess an inspection and a diagnostic are different? Now I know.
Overall, their prices are expensive. I need my cat. convert. replaced… I got a quote for the same service from my regular mechanic and H-1’s quoted price was almost double my mechanic’s quote.
H-​1 quote: $ 500; Vo’s on Birdsdale quote: $ 200-​$ 300 for my make and model.

I have been here several times for minor and moderate services on a couple of cars. I get the impression that the staff are competent, and they have convenient hours and fast turnaround.
I would have given 4 stars, except that I am unhappy with their marketing practices, which I believe border on deceptive. They offer coupons on their website, groupon deals for oil changes, and many other ways to get you in the door. Unfortunately. I have felt like they didn’t honor the spirit of those promotions nearly every time I try to use them. Most recently I bought a groupon for 3 oil changes. I read the fine print and it said that’ll they would be good for any passenger car. When I arrived, they indicated that since my car needed synthetic blend oil, they would treat it as a $ 25 discount coupon instead of a fully-​paid coupon, as advertised on groupon.
All in all, I would like to support this place, but I just cannot because of their terrible marketing and sales follow through.

The Gresham location of Honest 1 has done oil changes on my car twice now. I find their prices to be quite fair, (check their website for occasional deals and coupons). The front office manager and my maintenance person were both friendly and straightforward with me. They honored the quote they gave me over the phone for a full synthetic oil change and I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time. They have free soda and Internet use to pass the time while you wait. I’ll return.

I have used Honest-​1 for over five years and they have consistently given me excellent service. I can’t say enough about their mechanics who not only repair what I came in for but also advise me on things that could go wrong in the future. This is not unusual for other service shops but it is presented in a professional manner while being shown what is happening to the car. Their prices are very fair and worth it. The environment is always spotless and inviting. Scheduling is superb and being notified when ready is very much appreciated. They also are able to drive me home if I have to leave the car to be worked on. Overall I rate these people the highest because I like their personnel, their work and they way they do business.

I was having a water loss problem and took my escort into H1 for a check up. It cost me $ 230.00 to find out it was a head gasket and I got a quote for the repair and it was quite lower than I expected. A head bolt broke on removal but they took extra time to ice and heat it to get it out and repair the head gasket it was more then quoted but hundreds under what other repair shops quoted. All in all super happy and Suzzie kept me updated the whole time!

My check engine light came on the other night, and the car was clearly running poorly. Honest-​1 is very near my house and I have seen the several banners they have up that promise a «free check engine light inspection», so I went there the next day. When they were done, they wanted to charge me $ 120 for a full diagnostic, because the codes they had pulled were not very specific. Wary of this tactic, I politely declined, knowing my regular mechanic would do the diagnostic for free (if it was even necessary). Before he would give me my keys, the guy (I think he was the owner) charged me $ 5 for «shop materials» and «hazardous waste disposal». Now, I know what it takes to do a check-​engine light inspection, and there are no hazardous materials involved, although I suppose the digital reader they use could be considered shop materials. In any case, I pointed out that the signs out front said the inspection was free and the owner (?) just smiled and waited for me to pay. I know I can’t really review their work, but when a business has the word «honest» in its name, I think it sets a high standard and this place just doesn’t strike me as being reliable or trustworthy. I won’t be back. UPDATE: got a call first thing this morning from Susan, their manager. She seemed genuinely appalled by the way her boss treated me last week; apologizing profusely and refunding my $ 5. I had already gotten my car repaired elsewhere and it will take a lot more to create any trust in Honest-​1 Auto Care.

I was quoted $ 1200 for my repair. When I presented the Unilocal coupon for 15% off I was then advised the repair was actually $ 1300 and they discounted the diagnoses. So i couldn’t use the additional discount. My car will be finished tomorrow. I will pick up, pay and never return to them. They won’t honor a coupon and changed the quote after I approved the repair. If the repair was indeed $ 1300 and you are discounting the diagnoses tell me that. Don’t tell me it is $ 1200 then not allow my coupon which I advised at the time of service because you discounted something without talking me to. Communication means everything. Frustrated and unhappy. That’s no way to do business. When I addressed it with «Susie». She agreed she made a mistake with the actual quote yet won’t make it right. Lets hope my car comes out in once piece are reading the other reviews.

I had water dumping into my floorboards so I Googled/​Youtubed a solution. Everybody says to blast air into the AC drain tube, not the evap tube. Even watched a video of it happening. No problem. I can’t get under my car so I thought I’d swing by a garage with a pit or a lift and see if they can help me out.
Dude at Honest told me over the phone first to just take it to a gas station and blast it from under then car, but then said I’d need to have Honest mechanics work the evap tube from under the hood, minimum 3 hours of labor at 96 bucks an hour.
Yeah, I’ll do it myself, you guys just keep eating that bag of dicks.

Fantastic experience with Honest-​1 Auto Care. I called Scotty when my transmission breathed it’s last breath 2.5 hours into a 9 day road trip. Although Scotty was not allowed to do the repair due to warranty issues he was still kind enough to assure the security of our vehicle while we were awaiting the warranty service groups action. He kept the car at his location in Gresham for several days and acted as a liaison between several different parties while we were trying to coordinate the repair of our car. He steered us toward a great rental company who also took very good care of us. You just don’t see this kind of neighborhood honesty and courtesy any longer. Scotty was great. I’d recommend Honest-​1 Auto Care to all of my friends in the Portland area. Thanks so much.

This shop does a wonderful job! My boyfriend and I have been taking our cars here and have had zero complaints. The staff are all extremely friendly and willing to work with you to get the best possible prices. They are eco friendly and know how to take care of vehicles. I was just in for a tune up on my car and now she’s purring like a kitty again! Thank you and we will be back again and again!

I got an oil change done here in January of 2011. I went here instead of my regular mechanic because I had a coupon from a promotion by a local radio station for an $ 8.60 oil change. In their defense, I’m fairly sure they did actually change out my oil.
I’m rating them a 1 because of the attempt they made at upselling me. When I came back to pick up my car, they gave me a quote for over $ 500 in additional services… About $ 400 of which was to «remove and replace» my oil pan gasket, which I’d just had installed a few months previously by my regular mechanic. I opted instead to take it back to my regular mechanic to have them inspect the gasket under their warranty, and they confirmed there were no issues with it. I will not be returning to Honest-​1.
My friend went in a few days after me with the same $ 8.60 oil change coupon and got very similar treatment. She also will not be returning.
