Granite Bay Kennel

Cold intake process. They do not let you see beyond the office so you have no idea where your dog is going to be kept. My dog came back smelling as if he had laid in his own urine and feces the entire time. The smell was so bad I had to immediately wash and bathe my dog the minute we got home; the car ride home was awful. I read this on another review here as well, so I know this is a problem. Just when you want to love on and cuddle your dog due to being away for a few days, you cannot because the smell is enough to gag you. The small cozy and blanket I brought — I was told that it wasn’t necessary. I would advise EVERYONE to avoid this place like the plague. Taking my dog here was a HUGE mistake. I envision a cold metal cage where the dogs are grouped according to their size, similar to the rooms at the pound. The owners charge extra for dropping off or picking up on Sunday, which I needed to do. The owners are largely absentee, just raking in the dough from this «business», hiring minimum wage workers who seem very unhappy (which speaks volumes) to perform the intake process and the once-​daily feeding, fresh water (hopefully) and potty cleanup. I say once-​daily because it’s clear the care of the dogs is obviously severely lacking. Do not give your business to these greedy, heartless owners.

WOW it took Granite Bay almost 2 years to reply to my Review? They write that I never asked to speak to a manager or an owner? They welcome treats or food to be brought in? DID YOU NO READ MY REVIEW? We did bring treats, your staff did not give them to our dogs. In addition it was 25 degrees that weekend, and the dogs are outside during the day in a kennel. We brought our own pets blankets because we were told we could and that you would use them. Our pets are familiar with their blankets, but nevertheless you did not use them after you told us that you would! We were also told that we could pick up our dogs when we did by Kelly and there was no mention of an additional fee. I am shocked that it took you almost 2 years to reply. I NEVER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE OWNER OR A MANAGER although it was obvious that we were not happy, and I am certain that you saw this review and did not even bother to call us. As far as new customer, sure we were, but my brother was a regular customer and obviously after out HORRIBLE experience they never returned to your kennel. Your Service was HORRIBLE and your staff other than Kelly was RUDE! Now you want to open up the can of worms again so we can relive how upset we were over your HORRIBLE service! I see another review of your place where it appears that there was another mis-​communication about an additional fee. Oh Yes It was in the small print… Get a Grip, fix your customer service and don’t wait 2 years to respond to your HORRIBLE REVIEW!

We’ve boarded our lab here several times and have been very happy each time.
I didn’t give 5 stars as the first time we dropped him off I was told I could not tour the kennels which gave me a bad feeling but I guess there were times when they allowed touring? I don’t know. I looked from inside and they looked like standard kennels. Some inside, some outside space.
We paid extra for run and play sessions as our pup is pretty active.
He came home tired and smelling nice and clean.
They do require recent shot records which I greatly appreciate as I don’t want my dog coming home with bordetella.
They are clear on their fees and how these are effected by holiday/​weekend pick ups. I’ve never felt they were being deceiving or unfair in these practices as they are pretty standard. The land is beautiful. The facilities I was able to see were clean and smelled fine. The owners breed dogs and had them in the office and I could tell they were well cared for. Dog lovers are a special breed and I can feel that when I drop off the big guy to play for a few days at GBK. We are happy with this kennel and will continue to use them.

We left our 10 lb. Havanese there on New Year’s eve. for two nights.
First problem we had was a communication problem. Over the phone they told us we couldn’t pick up New Year’s day … but we could pick him up the next day with no extra charge. When we went to pick him up on the 2^nd, they said we could have picked him up on the 1^st for an extra $ 40 «special» pick up charge, and when they said «no extra charge», they meant no $ 40 «special» pick up charge, but they were still charging for the 2^nd night. Most businesses try to err in the customer’s favor for miscommunications, but they wouldn’t budge and had our dog, so we paid for two nights.
Second thing we noticed was that when our dog got into the car, he wouldn’t stop whining. We eventually figured out he wanted some water so we gave him a small cup of water which he licked clean. Then he kept whining until we gave him a second cup. We have never seen him do that before.
Last thing is when we went to take him to my grandparent’s house a couple weeks later, he *really* didn’t want to go into the car. He usually loves car rides, but he was clearly scared that he was going back to the same kennel.
We are still giving 2 stars because he wasn’t hurt or anything, and the people were friendly enough even though they wouldn’t budge on the price even while admitting they may not have been entirely clear. We won’t go here again.
