Planet Wines is Grand Junction’s only wine specialty shop, offering expertise in wines of the world and attentive advice in choosing the right wine. Our selection is large and eclectic and we love to showcase wines from small wineries that are hard to find but offer great value for the price. France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado… dessert wines and sparking wines, too. Located in historic and charming downtown Grand Junction.

History

Established in 2008.

Planet Wines is Grand Junction’s only true wine specialty store, and offers selection and expertise you won’t find at liquor stores. We cater to the adventurous wine lover who enjoys trying new wines from around the world, and we offer help with food/​wine pairings.

This place is great. I love going into the store and chatting with the owner, Mike, when I’m in town. I always learn something new. The guy knows his wine! Plus, it’s a really low-​key environment – no pressure and no pretension. This is a store for everyone – from wine aficionados to those those who don’t know a lot about wine.
Mike is always happy to tell you what to pair with what, and there are plenty of excellently priced (read, under $ 15!) wines in the store. A great deal and a great store. Go check it out!

If you are near Grand Junction, this is the place to buy wine. I’ve been a consistent customer since they opened over 2 years ago.
The store has a very welcoming feel and the owner/​staff are very approachable. When I first started buying wine here, I really didn’t know much about wine or what I liked; I just liked the appearance of the store and supporting a local business in this tough economy. It has been a real pleasure over the years discussing what I liked/​disliked about a particular wine I recently bought with the staff in the store (and being turned on to so many different regions where grapes are grown!) This place really does have it figured out. Highly recommended!
Lastly, if you are really confused about wine (as I was in the beginning), just let the staff know and they’ll recommend a starting point to you (in whatever price range you want). Then the next time you’re in the store, you can tell them what you thought of it (too sweet, too dry, etc… and if you don’t know what words to describe wine… they’ll help you there too!). Before you know it, you’ll have discovered a bunch of incredible wines (.and the wine menu in your favorite restaurant will make more sense!)
