On The Beat Dance Academy offers a variety of dance classes, including Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Hip-​Hop & Pointe for students all ages & levels. We also offer classes for the whole family including Mommy & Me, Salsa & Pilates. Our Dancers are not only gifted performers who often take home top awards at competition, but are also valued community members. They participate in many community events throughout the dance year, and have the opportunity to perform at many exciting events including Clippers games, Television Events, Disneyland, Celebrity Charity Events including City of Hope’s K.O. Cancer, and Children’s Hospital’s «Dr. J» Event!

History

Established in 2002.

On The Beat Dance Academy (formerly Sheila Jean’s Studio of Dance) opened it’s doors to the community of the San Fernando Valley in 2002. Owner & Director Lea Sullivan, who had over 15 years of experience of being a choreographer, professional dancer and teacher found teaching to be her true passion. Today, On The Beat Dance Academy strives to teach students the fundamentals of dance to all ages & levels.

Lea was trained at Larkin Dance Studio in Maplewood, MN (featured on the cover of Dance Teacher Magazine). She studied and competed in dance throughout her childhood and won a scholarship in New York to dance in LA. She has been a choreographer, professional dancer and teacher for over 25 years, finding teaching to be her true passion. She has taught dance all over Southern California and has been a convention/​competition teacher and judged many competitions in the U.S. She is now the owner of On The Beat Dance Academy. A few things listed from her professional resume, choreographed/​danced in: Mad TV, Austin Powers, That Thing You Do, The Tonight Show/​Jay Leno, Tracy Ullman Show, Ben Stiller Show, VIP, Country Music Awards– Dixie Chicks, Billboard Music Awards– Mystikal, Comedy Awards, Chris Isaac Video, Courtney Love Video, David Lee Roth, People Magazine, Reebok Workout Videos, Adidas Int’l Team, Bally’s Commercial, and much more in the TV, movie, commercial and industrial world.
