M & M is a full service interior design and consultancy firm based in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, having successfully served the entire Los Angeles/​Southern California region for over thirty years. Residential and commercial clients have made M&M their first choice for interior design, furnishings, re-​upholstery, customized concept work, restaurant and business booths, bedding, window treatments and antique restoration.

History

Established in 1973.

Business founder Mel Thompson believed in providing each customer the highest quality furniture and fabric money can buy. Today, M & M is owned and operated by Robyn Kelley-​Smith, Mel’s partner for 27 years. Robyn continues Mel’s customer creed of top quality material, fabric and care. Additionally, Robyn’s unique vision and expertise in the facets of interior design, make this well established upholstery shop the complete place for residential and commercial design needs today.

Business Owner

California native Robyn Kelley Smith has been a passionate design creative for twenty-​seven years. The key to Robyn’s success is her unique ability to go from simple idea to a rich visual and tactile world, transforming residential, office, retail, entertainment, and corporate and spaces into custom environments that reflect the specific identity of each homeowner or business.

She is married to Tim, a teacher, and they have a son, Donny, who is graduating from high school this year.

We hired Robyn and Gwen from M&M as our designers, decorators and consultants and it was the best thing we could have done.
We underwent a full home remodel and Robyn was there every step of the way as a trusted friend and confidant. Robyn has incredible taste and has been a complete pleasure to work with. She has a great vision and the perfect amount of opinion!
Also, the furniture they build at M&M is beautiful, fast and built to last. I could not give them a higher mark.
I would recommend them to anyone and everyone!

We just completed brand new construction and hired Robyn from M & M not only as a decorator, but a consultant. It was the best thing we have ever done. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome!!! Robyn was the most instrumental person on the job. She handled every detail — from her input with arcitectual plans to picking out everything from lighting fixtures to flooring.…Her specialty is furniture and it is absolutely gorgeous. Her furniture is made out of the best wood with the most beautiful carvings. Every room has it’s own personality. She has made our new (large home) feel inviting, warm, and welcoming. Another decorator in he office, Gwen, is also extremely talented and was also a big part of our project. Her whole staff was wonderful and helpful every step of the way!

We bought a house in May that needed a full remodel inside before moving in. We told our general contractor that we were thinking about hiring a decorator to help with the decision making. He said we should go with Robyn and Gwen at M&M. We had a few other designers that were recommended that we had seen their work as well. During the interview process, Robyn looked at our current house and literally said «none of this furniture will due in the new house»…how funny. So, we hired her. As insulting as that can be, we knew we had someone who had a vision and didn’t mind telling us about it. She worked with us to achieve what we wanted and was able to keep everything interesting, timeless and complimentary. Well, months later, we couldn’t be happier with how the house turned out. So beautiful! Their furniture is gorgeous, well built and pretty much the same price as Pottery Barn but CUSTOM and we won’t see it in anyone else’s house. The proof of their good work is that the few friends that have been over have called M&M within hours of seeing the house… and we’re not even done! If you’re thinking about hiring a designer, Robyn and Gwen are the way to go.

Just had our couch re-​upolstered and they did a superb job. It looks brand new.
We also had a leather bolster restored for the lounge seat.
I would recommend for future use.
Our next project is window treatments which is in progress for material ordering.

We are so pleased with all of our «new» furniture! Everything looks great. The workmanship is outstanding. I am proud that we didn’t just toss everything and start over but used the high quality furniture we already owned, but still managed to give everything an updated look. Robyn and Gwen are pleasures to work with — and they will do as much or as little as the client requires.
