Why would anyone give Chilitos 5 stars when they have garbage ass food and Super Cucas is just a 10 minute walk away in IV? Because they serve pitchers of beer. That’s why. What the fuck else are you going to do when you have some general ed 7 pm Theater class? You’re going to hit up Chilitos and get fucked up. That’s what. Note: Freebirds is overated garbo by the way for all of you noobs out there. So yourself a favor and get a ranchero burrito from Super Cucas. Your boner/wet vag will thank met later.

I got a basic chicken burrito. Somehow, it ended up being $ 7.07. The guys working there were okay — it was the burrito that was so utterly disappointing. After handling the burrito, the tortilla left a powdery coating on my hands. I couldn’t even tell if there was chicken in the burrito after a couple bites, and I couldn’t tell if there was salsa in it until I’d worked my way well into it. And really, those pinto beans? It made for a filling burrito, but I wanted a good burrito. I give it credit for not being nasty — it was just bland, and the powdery tortilla made me feel like I’d just handled a bag of cocaine when I’d finished.

Nasty. I ordered a quesadilla with steak and was served some slop instead. First of all, its served on top of some rather juicy flavorless beans, so its soggy and wet. The«steak» inside was actually just dry ground beef, and I mean BONE dry. Add about a tablespoon of cheese, and that was my «quesadilla». How is it possible to mess up a quesadilla? And then to charge $ 7 for it? I ended up throwing it away after taking some regretful bites. Now I see why there is a line a mile long for Panda a few steps away.

The staff is wonderful but the food is not that great. I’ve heard from others that it gives them the toots. The nachos are alright.

Well I haven’t been to the actual Chilito’s in the ucen since they changed their menu but I have to say I’m very disappointed with the cart by the arbor. They raised their prices… a lot. I used to get the taco salad all the time for $ 4.99. Lettuce, pico de gallo, salsa, ranch dressing, chicken or steak, beans and rice on top of a couple of tortilla chips. They changed the chicken and steak and I don’t know how to describe it but instead of the moist morsels that were boiled… stewed? now they serve grilled pieces of steak or chicken that they cut up. these grilled pieces are sometimes(usually) very dry. The same prices held for a little while but they just recently upped all of the prices and now my beloved taco salad is $ 7. The cart also got rid of the taco option(which was my second favorite) but added a fajita plate which is good but they fry up the meat again with the vegetables which left my steak really, really tough. The fajita plate is large. I got it to go and the rice, beans, pico de gallo, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions and steak filled the styrofoam container. But the beans were hard and undercooked, the rice dry and bland, and the steak tough. I probably will eat here again because there are very few options near where work/my classrooms are, but I no longer like it. update 8÷19÷09−−−−−− they changed the meat again! it’s better now so i’ve bumped them up a star. they also have fajitas which are decent but definitely too salty.

I use to go to their arbor booth almost everyday, just to get a side of chicken and rice topped off with lettuce, pico de gallo, hot sauce, and ranch sauce. Yum and worth my $ 3. And then if I’m at the UCEN, I’ll get the tostada with basically the same ingredients, but so much better with a toasted corn tortilla holding it all together! Sometimes they don’t always give me enough ranch and pico de gallo, but that’s okay I just bug them for more. I don’t really like their burritos though. They’re pretty bleh.

You know what, the Low-Carb Veggie Burrito with tofu had absolutely no business being that good in a university food court. Why was everybody lined up outside the crappy Panda Express, Wendy’s, and the other joints there, and no line for Chilitos? It was a huge, wet, gutbuster of a burrito, great guac, just enough cheese, black beans, well-prepared tofu, and the $ 3 Firestone double barrel ale prepared me to pass out on my buddy’s desk in his office, which I did. A fine place for your burrito-and-beer coma after getting up at 3 to beat traffic and drive down to Goleta. Tortilla was a little dry and powdery, but the rest made up for it. Why did my little liberal arts college in Florida have such godawful food? And no beer. Hat’s off to you, UCSB, you actually have some good campus food, and the huge burrito should be a staple of campus food everywhere.
