Orchards farms and rocks The Steere Hill Farm Trail is about six miles of trails that is part of the Glocester Land Trust. This whole area used to be farms with lots of pear, peach and apple orchards and remains of the orchards and old farm buildings and equipment can still be seen. Not a strenuous hike but one that has lots of small hills, large rocks and cool stuff to look at. Lots of wildlife in here including various birds, wild bunnies and lots and lots of deer. With the deer come deer ticks so precautions have to be taken in the warm weather to keep the little monsters away. The trail is popular with hikers as well as mountain bikers and horses. In the winter it’s a cool place for snow shoeing and x-country skiing. Some of the trails are actually old farm roads while other ones are small and narrow single track. It gets really muddy in here during the spring and is a nice place for anyone that enjoys slooshing through some serious mud. The parking lot holds about fifteen cars and is almost across from the Glocester post office. Just look for the huge Glocester Land Trust Sign. A porta potty that usually isn’t too disgusting is location right by the parking lot. A very pleasant place to hike all year long with varied terrain, lots of wildlife, ancient stone walls and even some rusty old farm stuff. Maybe if you are lucky you can even find some wild apples or see a rusty old manure spreader.
