Weiss Ace provides the best customer service in the world; not just friendly and immediately accessible, but also knowledgeable about everything. Nowhere else on the north shore can you find such service and special accommodations, even preparing your order in advance and loading it into your car.
Retailers like Weiss are one in a million and we try to support them whenever hardware needs arise. Their prices are very reasonable and they often have excellent sales as well. Beyond home and yard necessities, they have cool kitchen, home décor and pet items, along with sundries and some novelty items.
By all means, stop and shop at Weiss Hardware. They make hardware shopping an enjoyable and satisfying experience.

Wow, I cannot say enough about the customer service here… just about everyone is friendly and willing to go out of their way to help you.
I’ve shopped here a few times to get color samples for a house project and the man at the color station spent a lot of time helping me pick out some good colors and made sure I left with the right ones… The staff is like a family here. Way better than Home Depot when it comes to customer service.
Athough it may not always have a broad selection of materials, the staff is always willing to make sure you find what you’re looking for and make you feel appreciated.

Super-​friendly staff, also very helpful («home of your helpful hardware man» of course) and good selection of products. The prices were a little high on some housewares but not on hardware. High quality products, in general.

I try not to give too many 5 star ratings. This particular Ace is awesome. Normally with hardware stores when you have to ask a question or two it’s A.) impossible to find someone and B.) there’s a 75% chance they’re unhelpful. Not the case here! There are always a TON of staff and they’re all incredibly knowledgeable. And when they’re not they know each other well enough to get the person who does n ow pretty quickly.
I had a missing screw for my son’s like-​a-​bike. It’s a very unique double hex thing and I was sure a hardware store wouldn’t have it. Brought it here and they explained to me what it is (it’s actually a furniture fixture screw) and when they didn’t have the right length they cut one down for me and made sure it fit. Totally worth 5 stars!
If you’re semi-​handy and need some help getting handier and taking care of your home or yard this is a great place to go.

Typical neighborhood hardware store with a lot of extra items & junk. Trying to keep up with big box places by stocking everything– except building materials and lumber. Place feels like Grandpa’s garage — 10 lbs stuff in a 5lbs sack. Service is attentive but it’s either punk kids that don’t know much or old timers that feel they know everythjng. In a pinch useful otherwise I’ll avoid.

Couldn’t get help finding what I needed. I waited around, I sought out help, none could be found so I left without what I needed.

Best hardware store around! Big enough and fully stocked, so that they have everything I need. What I like best are the people! They always have plenty of people in their red shirts ready and willing to help! It’s refreshing to be in a store that still has lots of knowledgeable people helping the customer. And plenty of checkout lanes open — with clean cut people doing the checkout. JT Weiss, owner, is there and working hard.

Great service. Neighborhood feel. Home Depot has better prices but I try to give this Ace store my business as much as I can.

I sometimes stop by to pick up things for my mom because she likes this store. I don’t know what’s so amazing about this place. It’s just a appliance store with extra trinkets available for sale. The store sore is easy to navigate, the employees on the floor are helpful, but it gets me that the older cashier people make you feel like an idiot when you’re checking out. No, I don’t have a rewards card & no you don’t need to roll your eyes at me when I can’t figure out which of the 50 businesses numbers my mom put down as her rewards card.

been here a few times and each time there was grown-​ups with actual home owner knowledge to help out. needed some locks keyed and my order was done quite fast. so far so good. what I didn’t care for however, was the vibe/​feeling that just wasn’t as friendly as I had experienced at other Ace stores. an intangible that’s hard to explain, but maybe it just seemed that while the folks were helpful, they also weren’t ‘happy’ I guess is the only way to explain it. also, when it came to having extra keys made for the locks and knobs that I had purchased, I felt very much that I was being nickel-​and-​dimed. anyway, after the initial experiences with this place, I have avoided going back. I had a great experience at the big orange box hardware store in off Civic in Niles.

I will add my voice to the positive reviews. When we moved to this area many years ago, our neighbors recommended the store, and we still go there. We have always found their staff to be knowledgeable and friendly. Many seem to have hands-​on experience in various areas. I assume that’s why they were hired, not because they are the slickest sales staff!
Are they the cheapest or do they have the hugest selection when compared to a big-​box store? Probably not, so that’s why the 4 stars. However, when we ask a staff person about items for a project, generally s/​he asks questions and provides information that saves us money and effort. I don’t mind paying a small amount extra for the lessons and convenience. Do they have some bad days? Everyplace does. In comparison, I have often waited in the big box stores for the overworked employee who is trying to handle 3 customers at once.
If you have regular hardware store needs, I recommend getting the Ace customer card, which then will get you sale fliers and occasional discounts.

Not sure why some people are so down on this store. I have been going for years and always find the staff to be helpful, friendly and informative. Huge selection, competitive prices and people who know their stuff and seem to care will keep Weiss Ace my first choice for hardware stores. Head and shoulders above the rest.

I have been going to this hardware store for years. Today, I called in to have a piece of glass cut. I finally got Alec on the phone. Who took the size down and then told me to come in and he would cut it while I waited. He said it would take 2.5 minutes. It took Alec 12 minutes to pick up the phone. I told Alec I would bring my timer… Guess what, I never went in. I go out of my way to support the neighborhood store. Not anymore,

On the one hand, the place is pretty large, so you will probably find things here that you wouldn’t expect in a regular hardware store.
On the other hand, I spent thirty goddamn minutes in this store trying to get two keys copied.
No, it wasn’t busy, and the key-​cutting machine was not broken.
The first guy spent about seven or eight minutes looking for a blank to match my small file-​cabinet key. At some point during the course of taking down a blank, comparing it to the original, and putting back the blank (repeat about 20x), he accidentally hung my key back on the rack instead of the blank. Then he went on comparing new blanks to that blank until he realized his mistake.
Then he called over a second guy, and they spent seven or eight minutes looking for my key on the rack. When they finally found it, they summoned a third employee, and between the THREE of them, they spent another seven or eight minutes locating two appropriately sized blanks, cutting the keys, and bagging and tagging them. Then it took me about 95 seconds to check out.
At no time did anyone act as if my time were valuable or as if this were an unusual occurrence that should not fall within the normal range of customer experiences. Only at the very end did the original employee say «I’m sorry that it took so long.» Heaven forbid that you might discount the 30-​minute service that you provided which should have taken closer to five. These guys were «nice» old gentlemen, but they really screwed the pooch on this one. Bad operational execution, terrible customer service.
Up until today, I had visited Lemoi Ace in Evanston for all of my key-​cutting needs since 1995, literally every single one. Today I opted for the geographical convenience of Weiss Ace… bad move on my part. Lemoi, I’m sorry for cheating on you with a two-​bit hoor who gave me V.D. I’ll never stray again.

No one was helpful, happy or appreciative of my business. All I needed was deck cleaner and the sales person suggested I sand instead. Not sure what kind of advice this was, but it’s crazy. Then I asked to buy sand and was literally tossed a laminated sheet and told to look for myself. The cashier was rude too. First and last time. You can knock other places like Home Depot but at least they’re friendly and competent. Yikes. Last time here.

Not exactly the biggest hardware store, but they use their space wisely and have a good stock and variety of items. But most importantly, they have a great staff — service is always accessible and friendly.
I have been going here for years and will be for many more years to come!

I absolutely LOVE this store! Everyone KNOWS hardware supplies, tools, and HOW to do things right. The sales help will spend a lot of time with me, and seem genuinely interested in helping me find soljutions to my projects. They don’t try to sell you the most expensive thing… but they honestly want you to purchase the correct items you need.
The cashiers always smile, and there is always plenty of help on the floor. the store is small… which is exactly why I love going there, instead of the Lowes or Home Depot only 1 mile away.
I cannot say enough good things about this place… I am there at least once a week, and if i am working on a big project, in there daily.
Only one bad thing… I wish the women worked on the floor… not just as cashiers. That is a little too old fashioned for me. The women are stuck up front at the counter, while the men staff the sales floor.
