I’d like to throw a shout out to one of the associates, Melissa. She was extremely helpful when it came to locating an item I was looking for when all I had was a vague description. Not to mention she’s absolutely delightful to talk to.

This is the best example of total highway robbery … I friend bought me some Christmas lights so instead of hurting her feelings by asking for the receipt I just tried to return them still in the Home Depot bag. They said without a receipt they would give me a dollar back. Really! They haven’t been on sale and what middled aged fat suburban lady steals lights! I think this goes on the going to hell list. yea for bad commerce.

I purchased a patio set (Oakland Living) from Home Depot and within 18 months the coating on the chairs and table started flaking off in large strips causing the metal to rust. In some areas the coating was coming off in 2 foot long strips. This was happening on every piece of the 9 piece set. You can see if bubbling up in areas and then it just flakes off. We covered the set in the winter so it was only exposed to the elements from spring to fall. We have a small table and chairs that we bought from Home Depot in the front of the house and it still looks good after 12 years.
This poor review is more for Home Depot Corporate then the individual store. The manager in the Glen was very nice and came out to inspect the set. He said it definitely had an issue but since it was past their return period there was nothing he could do. If it wasn’t for the store manager I would have given a lower rating. He referred me to Home Depots customer service and they stalled me for 4 months and gave me the run around. When I threatened to go to the Better Business Bureau she took it to the next level person there. I never spoke with her but left her numerous messages that she never returned. I tried to get them to send someone out to look at the set and they refused. In the end she offered me 10% off a new set. I’m not looking to replace my patio set every two years so I refused.
Needless to say that after 15 years of doing all of our home improvement, appliance purchases, garden supplies purchases from them, we have stopped. They are very good at taking orders but extremely poor at following up on service issues.
We will not be shopping at Home Depot anymore

Horrible service and un knowledgeable employees. Sergey could not tell us if Home Depot installed chandeliers and then walked away. He seemed bother to have been called by a coworker to help us. He just walked up to the customer service counter and then left. Another employee told us that there was installation but had no idea about the cost. Lowe’s is the better option in Glenview/​Northbrook.

It’s difficult to review a big box store like this, but since I’m currently the regular with the greatest number of check-​ins, I feel the tiniest pang of obligation.
This is the smaller of the two Home Depots that I frequent. Most of the time, they have what I want, and it’s easy to get in and out, and their proximity to Costco also makes for a convenient trip.
I’ve come to the point where I know where most things are, but in the past couple of years, Home Depot corporate has been working hard on their app, making it significantly more stable. The app can tell you ahead of time what products are in the store, and gives you the option of pre-​ordering it and picking your items up at the front desk, or seeing the aisle and bin locations for your chosen items of the day, and you can meander through the store and grab what you want yourself, which does present a certain satisfaction. I feel damn rugged when I’m getting stuff at Home Depot, and I don’t need to ask anyone’s help. Unless I need cable or wood cut, in which case I find someone even more rugged with insurance to handle the things that cut stuff.
I’ve used them before for tool rental as well, most recently a power rodder to take out some tree roots in an irrigation setup. I was particularly rugged that day, complete with water, dirt, and a backache, but they helped teach me how to use the thing without damaging my hands in the process, for which I’m grateful, and able to type this review now.
So thank you, Home Depot, for being there for the times I say, «I can do that!» Right or wrong (and I’m usually right, because I know my limitations pretty well) you’ve always been a decent friend.

This review is for the Glenview Home Depot. I just wanted to thank Tom V. for his help in my weekend toilet crisis. My toilet flapper thingy (clearly I’m not a professional) was leaking and causing continuous flushing of my toilet. I initially planned to call a professional plumber, but on a weekend for an emergency, I knew the cost would be high. My sister suggested taking a picture and bringing it to Home Depot and seeing if there was an easy fix. I did this and Tommy was great. He showed me what I needed and even installed the new system for «free.99». I was able to fix my toilet for about $ 30 instead of $ 300. Thanks, Tommy!

After 27 years of living with a 1960’s kitchen it’s a good idea to take action but we had not much of a clue and lot’s of expensive «professional» advice available, most of which we paid for and found pretty much useless as a practical matter. We knew there were numerous folks with their hands out in the design area but were surprised how incompetent and formulaic many really are.
Then we were referred to Don Deluca at the Glenview Home Depot, where we just left after the purchase of kitchen cabinets. But this was after 6 different designs Don insisted on providing us in five visits over two weeks. Don was not only methodical, he actually slowed us down when we were about to buy designs he thought not good enough. He was also wildly helpful in every one of the myriad decisions involved.
I frankly expected this kind of service at the North Shore design firms we looked at (and as I said paid for). We absolutely did not expect anything like Don’s help at a Home Depot. But Don is providing our contractor with detailed drawings and us with a complete feeling that we made the right decision to deal with him and Home Depot.

Came in here while in the middle of a DIY renovation. I had watched videos online, written down everything that I needed, and journeyed to Home Depot with not a clue how to find anything and let’s be honest, not a clue about what I was doing. DJ met me in an aisle, asked me if I needed any help, and then walked me around the entire store item-​by-​item. He spent an hour with me and by the end of my shopping trip I was bouncing with joy. He was a huge help, very kind, and personable. He was honest and never tried to oversell me on anything, I think he was actually trying to find the best deal for me. It was the best experience at Home Depot that I have ever had. I’ll definitely only be shopping at this branch from now on. Thanks, DJ! You were phenomenal AND we were able to install a new dishwasher, lay all of our kitchen cabinets, and get the microwave up and running with your advice. Thank you!

So it’s been awhile since my last review of this place. Though I wasn’t seeking a Christmas tree, I set out to look for a pull-​out garbage component for my kitchen cabinet.
If they’d had a better selection for me to choose from, 5 stars would have been a no-​brainer for me. The customer service in this place is honestly the best! Sometimes it feels like a bit of overkill when you pass through nearly every aisle and there’s an employee that says «hello how are you?» and asks if you need help finding something. But, I’ll never turn down service… ever!
Note: Don’t come here in a bad mood, because you might be cheered up or even more annoyed by the happy people.
Special learning: We live closer to the Home Depot on Lake Cook Road, but with it being around 6pm on a Friday and with the construction on Lake Cook, we headed to Glenview. I wasn’t entirely sure, but when we asked one of those super helpy dudes it turns out the Lake Cook location is significantly bigger with more product.

Contrary to the other reviews, the guys in the tool department we’re not helpful at all. I went in for a specific item after I had done a inventory check online showing 11 pcs in stock. In the tools department; I tried to get the guy to help me; but he was very short with me and said that they didn’t have that. I asked him to check the SKU (as I had it with me) and he said that it doesn’t matter; what is out on the shelf is what they have. I said okay and proceeded to customer service; where the lady ran the SKU and confirmed that they did have 11 in stock. She called down to the tool department and they were still reluctant to help; she actually had to get strong on the phone with them and they said that they’d look. 5 mins later the guy walks the tool to me while I was waiting at customer service. They may be helpful, but they people that work the tool department are selective on who they help. From the other reviews that got good service; I’m thinking it might be demographic. So if you fit the demographic they are looking for, go there; as clearly they will help you. If you don’t; good luck!

People are very helpful here and know what they are talking about. Tommy from tools was an awesome, he had just punched out, helped me find something (he asked if I was looking for something,) helped me out to my car. (I was holding my toddler daughter.) Great experience!

My husband and I purchased the LG front loader washer and dryer recently online. We had a great experience with the delivery. They were professional, knowledgable and quick. We love our washer and dryer.

Staff is not knowledgeable about home improvement or projects which makes going there and asking questions very frustrating.
In addition, I would recommend that everyone stay away from using the Home Depot for kitchen remodeling. We started the process before the closing on our new house happened and over a month after the closing finally had countertops. The Project Managers that the HD used (contractors) were hard to get a hold of and frustrating to deal with. The countertop installers put a hole in our wall while installing the countertops. The plumbers came out and were surprised that they had to hook up both a new faucet and cooktop (despite the fact that they were all included in the measurements and interactions with HD/​the contractors) so they didn’t come prepared (and didn’t finish the job). Because we desperately needed our kitchen working, my husband ended up having to hook everything up himself.
Oh and although we hooked up the kitchen back in the beginning of Sept, I just got a call THIS WEEK from the contractor asking if they needed to come back to finish the cooktop/​faucet job. Seriously???
We have been and will continue to use Lowe’s and Ace for our home improvement needs.

The guys in the plumbing department here are great. I ask a million newby questions and they have the patience of Job. Really appreciate their willingness to walk a customer through various tasks. I take away one star cause one of the ladies at the customer service desk is a loud, pain in the ass.

Home décor/​renovation/​etc is not my thing. I really couldn’t care less if a piece of hardware is «brushed» chrome or «polished» chrome. So, imagine my joy when all the cabinets in the new house were left blank to give the buyer options to customize. Some people may find this prospect very exciting — me, on the other hand, just wants to take a nap and tell someone to pick out something «that looks nice».
Home Depot has made selecting cabinet hardware super easy though. The Martha Stewart Living collection is awesome — knobs and pulls that don’t look chintzy, but also don’t cost over $ 10 per handle. The display is simple and informative — with SKUs, size, and pricing all displayed, so if something you like isn’t available in the store, you can order it online.
And this location has had the friendliest employees I’ve encountered in chain hardware/​home improvement stores so far. Everyone said hi! Everyone asked if they could help me with something. I’m glad they were able to recognize my confused facial expressions. Bravo!

I know my basic woodworking, but some house projects I just don’t know where to start. The reason why I love Home Depot is because of the large signs (if you want to wander around on your own) and because of the customer service. Just ask, and you’ll feel better about getting started in no time. Awesome!

I wouldn’t normally review a chain store, but I wanted to recognize a very special employee who works at this Home Depot store.
My husband and I went to the Home Depot in Mount Prospect to order a custom window. After talking with one of their employees in the Millwork department who couldn’t answer any of our questions or find what we were looking for, we decided to try a different Home Depot.
We ended up at the Glenview Home Depot where we had a completely different experience. Earl greeted us at the desk and started to walk us through the ordering process. There are so many options, but he was able to talk through all them and explain the difference in the options for us. We described our project to him, which made it easier for him to make recommendations. We were there for over an hour, but he was very patient and we never once felt like we were taking up too much of his time. Employees like this are what makes people return to a store. I know I’ll be coming back here the next time I need any windows or doors.

I’m not a handyman, or even remotely competent with tools, but I enjoy shopping at Home Depot anyway. They have almost anything you need for a home project. I like to keep the level of personal involvement in my home projects simple. I can hammer on stuff, hang a picture, and screw and unscrew without screwing up. But if it’s plumbing, or electrical, or major carpentry work, I’ll call in a professional.
I do shop here mostly in the spring for lawn and garden stuff… there’s a nice selection and it’s reasonably priced.
They do have a pretty good selection of budget and mid-​priced appliances, and if I was in the market for a new appliance, I’d consider Home Depot as well.

I have never come here for a sophisticated transaction, but I have come here quite a few times to pick up little things. The employees are usually very helpful and can guide me towards the product that I need. Just like most home depots they have everything that you would need.
It should be noted that I am not the most handy person, so nothing I have purchased required significant assistance from their employees.

Bad customer service and the staff was not knowledgable at all. I bought a gas grill from them and was so irritated that I skipped buying the propane tank or cover. Instead I went down the street to Lowes.

Bought a dishwasher here and had used the home depot installers. Had to hire a lic. plumber to re-​install it. Still leaks. can’t get antone to follow up. Tried to buy granite counters, was told Margaret would call about pricing — never did. tried to buy a freezer for my garage was told Margaret again would check to see what extra part was needed to install in garage. She called once to say she still didnt have the answer but would call whan she did… that was a month ago. for appliances go to ABT, that is who they said they learned about the extra part for the freezer. The paint dept is helpful, as long as no one has to call you back. Glad I dumped my HD stock.
