Kool Rays Sun Spa Tanning

I love tanning here because they have amazing beds and the associates are always super friendly. I use the gold level and it gives me great results. Lilit is always super friendly!

This salon is ridiculously understaffed – at least every time that I’ve been there – to the point that I’m definitely not getting the value out of my tanning membership. I’ve gone in close to 10 times just this month and have been unable to tan because of 20 minute+ wait times. This was a problem for me last month too.
Example: I went in after work this week and there were already 2 people waiting ahead of me, no employee to be found. Approximately 10 minutes later, an employee appeared and explained that she had been doing the tanning spray on someone. (FYI, the customer service here has been bleh), Thennn, the customer in front of me got set up in the bed and the employee had to leave again to clean the bed. Repeat this interaction 2x before I decided I didn’t have time for this. (Not to mention other days where similar interactions have occurred, by the time you’re done waiting, all the beds you came for are taken.)
A tanning «membership» (aka, paying a set monthly amount upfront for unlimited use) implies that tanning would become part of one’s routine. I get it, there’s always the risk of some wait time, but when the wait time consistently exceeds the amount of time I’m receiving services, it is no longer convenient.
I have also noticed that the girls who work here don’t seem capable of multitasking (maybe it’s the computer system) to the point of making regular customers wait for new visitors to fill out all of the initial entry forms just to be put into a bed. Not only is it super frustrating, it contributes to the back up described above.
If you’re indifferent or if you have other options, I recommend finding another tanning salon until some of the aforementioned issues are addressed. At this point, the value of what I’ve experienced is maybe ¹⁄₃ of what I’m paying for.

I have been to this place for a 3 wrap package. It was okay but definitely not the best. The ladies who work there are nice but they definitely do not go out of there way and can seem a little clueless.
I had to cancel an appointment I couldn’t make and twice Nina kept telling me to call back «she was really busy» — I’m not sure if that was because she was annoyed by my cancellation but if they are busy they should just call you back like they would at any other salon instead of continuing to tell you to call back.
The walls in the rooms don’t go all the way up, so you can hear the TV in other rooms when you are getting your wrap and that can be distracting. Some locations have a more relaxing vibe but this place looks mostly like a tanning salon (which it is). So it’s got the bare basics and worth trying out. Not the best wrap spot I have ever been to and don’t expect the best customer service.

I should disclose I am no rookie to the bodywrap experience. I have done several treatments in several different locations. Although, doing just 1 treatment may help with water retention, it really will not make much of a difference in weight, joint/​muscle relief, or cellulite reduction. They really do work best when multiple wraps are done consecutively. With this in mind, I purchased the 5 for $ 85 at Sun Spa.
Like most locations they have a very strict cancellation policy so I took the time to reorganize the work schedule, coordinate the sport schedules for my children and checked it against their available appointments before i purchased. It was not an easy task to squeeze in 1 hour appointments for 5 entire days for myself, but since it was my birthday month I decided it was worth the sacrifice of time away from my family.
Wrap #1 — Sun Spa called to cancel my appointment LESS THAN ONE HOUR before appt. The «wrap» was broken and there was nothing they can do. Now, if tables were turned & there was an emergency an hour before on my end, they would have charged me. There was not much consideration for the waste of my time since I had moved around my schedule to ensure I would have no problems making it on time, not to mention, I had already planned out and scheduled all wraps so they would occur consecutively for maximum results.
Wrap #2 — went well, but didn’t sweat as much as I would have liked. I do attribute this to my own body’s reaction and not necessarily the treatment/​equipment.
Wrap #3 — I was excited to be getting the new equipment as I hoped it would heat up faster and better but I was very wrong. There seemed to be heat on the right side but no heat on the left side or even on the portion under your lower back. It almost felt cold. I mentioned this to the girl and she said that she felt it hot outside just to give it more time. I complained every time she came in that it was not heating up but she insisted that it was at highest setting and was new equipment. I DID NOT EVEN BREAK A SWEAT!!! Did I mention I wear a plastic suit! It’s almost impossible not to sweat in sunny California in a plastic suit wrapped in a thick «sleeping bag» like cover with a blanket on top.
Wrap #4 — It was same girl as day before & said she spoke to her manager & figured out that this wrap has sections and the temperature has to be set for each section. She assured me she NOW knew how to work the equipment and it would be fine. Again the heat was not being felt everywhere. I had pushed myself against the right side, where there was heat just to try and sweat. I explained over and over that it was not heating everywhere and she said that she was sure she set it right and to give it longer. I began to just sweat when the timer went off and session was over. I asked if she could just add 10 minutes since it was not heating (for 2 days now) and I was just starting to feel enough heat to sweat. She said she was not allowed to do that.
Wrap #5 — this time she placed me in the room with the old wrap and today it worked fantastic! I walked out drenched. I was physically able to wring out my socks when I was done and continued to sweat long after I was dressed on driving home!
Wrap #1 — (which they cancelled & rescheduled) This wrap was 3 days later. This was the 1^st available appt that I was able to make. This time it was a different girl working. I requested the older equipment since I had had trouble with the new one each time. She said she had just put someone else in the other room but assured me that she knew how to work the equipment and confirmed the settings were trickier on this new wrap. I told her I had a bad experience twice already and really would prefer to come back when the other room was available but she continued to assure me it would work as intended. IT DID NOT! Again the left side was not heating at all. She did actually take the time to stick her hand inside and feel for herself, which she was able to confirm. She said she was going to call her manager but meanwhile my time in this cold wrap is passing. She was never able to get a hold of anyone before my time was up. I did not sweat at all! She was at least more attentive in trying to resolve the issue but its been several days and I have not heard one word from anyone!
This was a complete waste of money!!! Not only did they cancel my first appointment with no consideration, they put me in non-​working wraps 3 out of the 5 times. They made no effort to make up any of their wrong doings — not even when all I asked for was 10 minutes longer.
This is a tanning spa, and that might be what they specialize in because they sure dont have the proper equipment or knowledge of wraps. As an example, they told me that maybe I wasn’t sweating because I had on a plastic suit! The plastic suit is designed to increase the sweating! That is wrap 101!

This tanning salon is one of the cleanest and newest tanning salon I have tanned at. They have the best body wrap machine and it helps me lose a lot of water weight and it is very effective! Everyone should try it! Lilit was very helpful and super friendly.

Kool Rays has become my permanent tanning salon. I have always loved tan skin but never realized how great of a tan I really could get until I joined and became a member here. It must be the beds they have, you literally can choose A variety of different intensities that fit your skin type.
I don’t like to remind myself but I tanned almost every day to keep color until now, it takes me about 1 to 2 sessions at max per week and the results are better.

I usually get my body wraps once a month, I so love them. Their service is awesome and the spot is very clean.

Before I moved out to LA I was tanning all the time, then when I got out here I didn’t know any good place to tan so I just got in my car and drove around searching for the best salon I could find! Then I come across this gem and As soon as I walked in I was greeted with smiles and then they showed me all of the beds and I thought I was in tanning heaven! The prices are great, the service is FANTASTIC, and it is super clean. But most of all I love the color I got from the matrix!!! I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for the perfect salon!

LOVED Kool Rays!!! It was my first time ever getting a spray tan and I’ve heard so many good things about this place, not to mention many bride-​to-​be clients glowing in their tans… I had to try it for myself. I was very nervous being my first time, but Lilit was so polite and informative, she guided me through the whole thing without making me feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. The procedure itself was so quick and easy, it was almost effortless. The price is super affordable and it’s definitely a great quality product. The rooms are clean, private and spacious so you don’t ever feel uncomfortable or claustrophobic. I highly recommend this place, I got so many compliments on my spray tan!

Lili is very nice and she explained everything to me she is very friendly and has great patient okay BUT sorry whoever the owner is… he/​she needs to think about client’s safety Not Only Money. You pay good amount of money for a bed then they dont offer a goggle. You have to buy it. Seriously who does that. The owner ONLY thinks about getting money from clients not their safety. Will never recommend this place to anyone.

Me having dark skin I never considered going tanning but I really needed to even out my color due to a bad sun tan and so my cousin recommended this place and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. Clean, Affordable, Very Safe and extremely nice staffing (especially Lilit)! What more can you want? ;)

I started going there to tan about one year ago. I am not as healthy as I would like to be and haven’t been in as often as I normally would have been The place is spotless so very clean. The entire staff are nothing but professional and extremely friendly. I called yesterday and thought maybe I will try the spray tanning. Nalla answered the phone and said «Come on in I will be happy to help you». It was such short notice. When I got home she called me to let me know I had left my neckless there and she put it aside for me. The spray tan came out so great she «Nalla» even called me this morning to make sure all was well and to make sure I was happy with her service. I told her Yes very happy and of course picked up my neckless.. Tonight I will be celebrating my birthday, GOLDEN BRONZE.

I had the infrared body wrap. It was very relaxing and I sweated like crazy. Very professional staff. Very welcoming. I love this place. I will be back to purchase more body wraps.

Best tanning salon in the city. Great prices. Great service. highly recommended. I’ve been going tanning here for about a year after trying many other salons. I won’t look for another one again. If you’re looking for a great place to tan this is it!

So far the best tanning place ever !! They are so nice here and take their time to spray tan you. And the tanning spray is good quality and lastes you a while. Most def recommending this to my friends and definitely returning again.

I love this place! Clean rooms, helpful and nice employees… ANNNND my favorite thing: the VERSA SPA! Not very many places have it around LA I’ve noticed. It’s pretty much a spray tan machine with excellent results! Not an orange, but a beautiful bronze tan glow.
As other people have said they really don’t push you to buy packages which is nice. They’ll usually kind of ask casually and then tell me the price and I usually go for it because I’m blown away. ($ 60 for 3 Versas when they’re doing super special deals. Wow!)
As far as their beds go, I wouldn’t know. I’m super white and would just plain burn so I don’t bother.

Ok, I’m going to have to admit something. Underneath all the beard and chest hair, I’m white. Like WHITE white. I realize there are variations of white — silky white, milky white, opaque (?) white … basically, lots of different shades of white. I, on the other hand, am translucent white. So, when faced with the imminent departure to Havasu, I decided I’d like to try and look a little different this time. I’d like?
A tan.
So I consulted with one of my sisters for a place she’d recommend I go. She referred me to Kool Rays in Glendale; which was perfect, because I happened to work a block away. My sister recommended the airbrushing as the quick fix solution.
Based on all the reviews, I’m sure they do a good job most of the time. But since these reviews are meant to be subjective, and my personal experience was nothing more than a 1-​star experience overall, I can’t help but to give it nothing but that.
I usually don’t go the extra length to voice my dissatisfaction with anyone’s service because, quite frankly, I’m never really experiencing it And on the rare occasion it does happen, I can usually brush it off. But it seemed pointless to pay the amount that I did for something that just completely didn’t work. Not even for a day.
So I gave them a call, informed the lady who answered the phone what had happened, and she took my name and number down. She said she’d have the manager give me a call — a call that never came. It wasn’t worth it any longer to follow up with it; I really just wanted to move on and write this review. If I can’t get a tan, can’t get my money back, and can’t have anyone call me back, then at least I can write a review.

This is by far my favorite tanning salon in all of LA. They are always very friendly and the location itself is always very well maintained. I’ve tried many other tanning salons and they are never up to par with Kool Rays.
The beds available here are top notch and pricing is very reasonable. I usually use the Ergoline beds and I love it. I’ve also been airbrushed tanned many times and I’ve had really good experiences with all of the girls who have sprayed me.
Lately, I’ve been coming often for the body wraps. I think the body wraps claims to help with a lot of different things but I use it solely for relaxing my musles if I’m sore from my work out or my long distance running. It feels like being in a sauna, only I don’t have to deal with not being able to breathe.
Metered parking is available of Central Ave and they plenty of underground parking available that you enter via Wilson.
