History
Established in 1996.
Chris Loxton began producing Syrahs and Zinfandels in 1996 while he was winemaker at Wellington Winery in Sonoma Valley. He first began selling his wines to restaurants and then to the general public in 2001 at The Cellar Door, a co-op tasting room in Sonoma. He opened his own winery and tasting room in 2003 in the town of Glen Ellen in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, where he is today. The tasting room is located in the barrel room of the winery where customers can see first-hand the production work being done.
Meet the Business Owner
Chris L.
Business Owner
Chris Loxton was raised on a Shiraz vineyard in southern Australia which was planted by his great-grandfather and is now (over 100 years later) owned and farmed by his father, Bob Loxton.
Before pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a winemaker, Chris spent 10 years as a Research Physicist and on the faculty of the University of Illinois. After his first harvest in California, he decided to make it his home.
Prior to opening his own winery, Chris had experience at St. Hallett’s in Australia, Quivira and Sonoma-Cutrer in Russian River and Wellington in Sonoma Valley. He began making wine under his own label in 1996 and opened his winery in Glen Ellen (Sonoma Valley) in 2003.
While Chris has always focused on Syrah (known as Shiraz in Australia) and Zinfandel, he now also makes award-winning Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Port.
