I have been working for Used Car Market for a little over two years now. I had not been in the car business prior to working here. So it was a little nerve wracking in the beginning. Needless to say, I am so glad that I stuck with it. I have learned so much being here, and absolutely adore those I work with. We are like a family.

My boyfriend and I had a really good experience here last November. We were in the market for a used Toyota Prius, and they posted one on Craigslist that looked good. We’re in Seattle, but we called a guy in PDX to do a buyer’s inspection, and they were very accommodating when he came to check out the car.
When we got a clean bill of health from the mechanic, we called them and said we were interested in looking at it in person, but we would have to drive down from Seattle. In the time it took for us to reach Gladstone, several other people had expressed interest in buying the Prius, but Used Car Market held it for us! We really appreciated that. We ended up getting a really great price on the car, and it’s been a perfect little commuter for us.
We felt that they were super honest about the car, and we didn’t feel pressured or weird at any point. We would definitely recommend this place!

My friend recently posted a rave about Used Car Market on his Facebook status. Because he is not a Unilocal’er, I am posting it on his behalf:
«I think when a business honors their word and has integrity, people should know. We share a lot about negative experiences but I want to share a positive experience. We recently bought a vehicle at Used Car Market on McLaughlin in Gladstone. They promised to fix our brakes when they sold us the car. We continued to have issues with our brakes after they thought the issue was resolved. We finally went to Les Schwab to have the brakes fixed. I called the owner of the car dealership to share my frustration with the ongoing brake problem and the bill I now have from Les Scwhab due to the unresolved problem. I was expecting a different response than what I got. He said to give them the bill and they would pay it! He said that they rely on their customers and want their business. I have found this car dealership to be very honest, fair priced and willing to do all they can to make their customers happy. This says a lot when it comes to a used car dealership. I am hoping that many will read this and pass the word on if your looking for a good used car. Integrity in business can be a rare thing and I am praying they will be blessed for doing the right thing. Good job Used Car Market, we will be long time customers!»

I recently bought a lovely used Saab here and it was, like most used car purchase experiences, a mixed bag.
They were certainly friendly, and even willing to let me take the car for a few hours to have it inspected by the Saab dealership, which is great. The car came through with flying colors, so they were honestly offering a car largely free from problems.
The car was absolutely spotless, so they did a fine job of detailing it. There were little things they could have easily fixed (dead tail light bulbs and a blown speaker), and a dead display for the climate control ($ 460), but that is pretty standard fare for used cars.
But when it came to discuss my trade-​in the salesman who helped me was Dr. Kam. I should have gone in better armed with printouts of local ads for my old car and the car I was looking at buying, because if anyone knows how to wring the most money out of you, it’s a P.H.D. Maybe? I did some pretty hard bargaining, but still should have held out longer.
Anyways, they offered me an insultingly low price of $ 6000 for a car that sells in the Portland area for $ 8 – 10 000 (2002 Subaru WRX), and refused to budge. They even quoted absurd Blue Book prices of $ 4500, insulting me further. Look on Craigslist or eBay and try to find a 2002 WRX for $ 4500, it’s impossible. These are the same guys that are asking $ 185,000 for a 1959 Impala. So, either they don’t know the car market very well, or they were deliberately offering me an insultingly, absurdly low price for my trade in.
The lesson here:
1. have the car you are looking at inspected
2. bring in lots of printouts of similar cars for sale in the area for bargaining
3. don’t waste your time talking to them about a trade-​in
