Pro Tip: THEYHAVEPURSEHOOKS under their bar tables! Jason-Stephens was the first winery we stopped through on our winery trip through Morgan Hill mountains. There’s plenty of parking, but we came on a Monday afternoon… so that may have affected the slow foot traffic. Anyhow, we were greeted by Becca in the tasting room. It wasn’t very busy, so she was the only one behind the tasting room bar. She was very kind and smiley – a great way to start our wine journey! We enjoyed tasting their whites and reds, but I personally liked their Viognier and Cabs, which was surprising because I’m not a big cab fan. My friend took a bottle of OnesandZeros home, whereas I walked home with a bottle of 2012 Estate Cab Sauv. They are very friendly with you bringing your own snacks, as long as you’re polite and ask them before cracking open your plastic baggies with cheese and crackers. They have a modern tasting room that is very small and not my top choice for parties larger than 6. Their restrooms are easily found and their facilities are viewable from the tasting room. The only things that bugged me were the buzzing fruit flies during tasting, but that’s expected whenever there’s sugar and fermentation in the process. There’s not much to do or see when you’re tasting, but bring a good wine tasting partner and you’re all good :)

Rude, arrogant, degrading owner. He treats employees and customers like he is above them. Don’t waste your money on this winemaker. He doesn’t deserve your dollars.

We finally joined. Great wine and great staff. Miss it and miss out. This is a very friendly place with great wine options. Looking forward to many visits in the future.

I really love the wine here. I LOVE their Zin. The tasting room is lovely but I like spending my time outside. I also love that I can bring a little picnic, my friends and my dog for a great day of wine tasting. If it isn’t too busy sometimes the staff will come out and pour your next tasting. If it is busy you need to go inside the tasting room, which is no biggy because the staff is really attentive and serves you right away. I definitely recommend for some great wine and nice ambiance.

This is the one winery where I can be confident I’ll always be treated horribly. I don’t know if rudeness is an employee qualification for their tasting room, but it seems to be how they brand themselves, so I am guessing this is an effect from management-down. The wine itself is OK– not great– but some of it is passable. Don’t ask for a single taste of anything off the tasting menu, even if you see a bottle open, and even if you intend to purchase a bottle of it. They’ll scour at you, as if you’re completely inappropriate. They used to have a good wine every now and then, but I don’t know what’s happened the past few years. Wines have slipped, or at least what I’ve tried on the tasting menus has been mediocre at best. Regardless, I don’t care for the vibe or the people who work there– and that’s important.

The quality of wine here is outstanding! There is not one wine I do not like here! Their tasting room is clean, air conditioned and very chic! Their October window display is so cute! Very friendly & knowledgable staff. I would HIGHLY recommend this winery to anyone weather they are new to drinking wine or are a wine connoisseur.

Among the better tasting wineries in the area. Great air conditioned tasting room, with top quality stemware. Tastings are $ 5, and yet the cost is not applied to any purchase:(

I’ve always been satisfied with their wine, especially the cab varieties. Beautiful setting and a newly renovated tasting room. Service is always phenomenal! I love bringing a picnic and sitting outside

Estate Cabernet Sauvignon AND Merlot — both equally delicious with a great finish. The tannins are so subtle it doesn’t overwhelm the pallet. Whenever I see this wine on a menu at a local restaurant, I’ll order. Or when I see it in a local grocery store, I’ll buy. The tasting room is clean and simple and the ladies are very nice. Great place for a day date or start to a mini self wine tour of Gilroy/Morgan Hill and San Martin areas.

Their wines are pretty good for the area. But you can find other wineries nearby with a better atmosphere and much more pleasant servers. Sitting out side is a great option but this place has dropped the ball. There are a couple of tables right outside the doors to the tasting room and an ugly picnic are across the driveway. I was only a member for a few months and only for two wine pick ups. I was out of state last week and sent an email cancelling my membership. The winemaker sent me four separate emails telling me I was already charged and must come in to pick up my 3 bottles of wine. Each time I asked for a credit back to my credit card. Yes, that did irritate me. Finally when I told Jason Goelz | Winemaker/Owner I was contacting my credit card company did he refund me in full.

I work in the local wine industry and was surprised with how I was treated at this winery. I went on a weekend so it was pretty busy. The staff wasn’t very friendly, just pouring. They charge $ 5 to taste. I mentioned I work at a winery and gave them my card and information. However, they said I needed to prove it further with a «pay-stub.» My first reaction was, who carries a pay-stub? :o( Industry standard(small perk) is to get free tastings if you are in the business. Anyway, the staff member charged me to taste. It isn’t about the money here, since $ 5 is a small price to pay to taste, rather the principle. I recommend local wineries regularly when I work all day long and this winery will not make my list. I didn’t even get to taste all wines as I was basically ignored. I left and will never go back. There are far too many great wineries in the area to choose from.

Wow reviews for Jason-Stephens seem to be all over the place. But like all other things in life that can be critiqued, I like to check it out for myself and formulate my own opinion. I went there with the boyfriend the other day on a quiet Tuesday. Being in the industry as well, we know that weekdays are the best days to go wine tasting. We had a very pleasant experience and the wines were delicious. Their chardonnay is just how I like it; a little buttery but not too oak-y. Their reds, even though they were heavier varietals, were all very flavorful and approachable on the palate. I hope to stop by again the next time I’m up in that area.

This is by far the best winery I have ever been to. I have been to many wineries having lived in Europe for many years and this place pips top spot for me. There is a regular clientele of friendly faces that makes the atmosphere seem updated and homely at the same time. What sold this winery to me was the friendly staff, the fact that the owner is always accommodating but I was yet to find a Merlot that I really liked until I came here. It is simply to die for. I wish I could give 10 stars!!! I will 100% be coming back to this place as much as possible and sharing the Jason Stephens wine with family and friends this holiday season.

I LOVE this place for the simple reason that they make the absolutely BEST wines. All grapes are grown locally, right on their property in small quantities. They have amazing deals and special events for their wine club members. Many wineries try to dump unpopular wine on their wine club members. Jason-Stephens does the opposite — They spoil their wine club members and save their best stuff for their loyal fans. I’m never disappointed in what comes in my wine club bag. The tasting room is simple and beautiful. The service and team behind the counter always knowledgable and sweet — and more often than not it’s Jason(who makes the wine) and his fiancée running the tastings.

Behold, there is another comment from the dear owner: «The security camera record and wine club database tell a different story. Plus we notified all wine club members via email, Facebook, and Twitter we were closed that day for a private event.» «The security camera record … tell a different story» Really? About what??? Please be specific, take all the time you need! You have been told repeatedly about your employee’s failure to add email of the club member into your mailing list but you still don’t get it, do you, you keep repeating the same lame thing! Do you ever listen? The client N E V E R received notification, not about the event, not about the shipments, not about anything! The only communication he had from your sorry place prior to the event referenced previously are the charges on his credit card for the membership. And no, not everybody is on Facebook or Twitter. Does it register anywhere now? After he personally expressed his disappointment in an email you had an audacity to tell him that he missed the best event of the year instead of an apology! And about that«wine club database» do you even know the name of your former client in question? I heard there is a restaurant where they treat customers in the most rude, obnoxious and arrogant way on purpose, as a «novelty,» I guess you decided to model your winery after that. You are by far the most unprofessional, unpleasant and scandalous winery owner I have ever encountered or even heard of! Your responses to bad reviews are an epic failure, there isn’t a single apology, or god forbids a goodwill offer!

Came here with a group of 5 and I probably wouldn’t come back. The customer service was terrible and the 2 young women working there were rude to the party I was with. $ 5 for 5 tastings.

I liked the staff here they were very knowledgable and great at answering questions. Def the most educational out of all the wineries. I wasn’t crazy about the last three wines on the tasting menu as I’m not a fan of Syrah’s but id go here again for sure.

Took my dad wine tasting for the first time this past weekend and we stopped in here since I’ve been before and actually enjoyed some of their wines. This time however may be my last. The customer service was awesome. We were greeted with a smile and each wine was perfectly described. However the wine itself was just«okay». I think we would have enjoyed our visit more if the tasting room wasn’t so gosh darn loud. My dad is very soft spoken and a tad hard of hearing so communicating in there was near impossible. On a better note, the picnic area was a perfect spot to sit, relax and have a bite. The vineyard is gorgeous and soft breeze on a warm day just felt so good. Apparently they host evening events here and I know KRTY has several concerts here as well. Hopefully they can find a way to lessen the noise level because I could tell other guests were bothered by it too.

Four of us visited Jason-Stephens after having been to Sycamore and Kirigin. What a disappointment. The newly remodeled tasting room was quite nice if a bit sterile, perhaps because it was empty. When we entered the tasting room, the host behind the counter came away from his computer screen and collected the tasting fee and poured the first taste — a truly minuscule pour when compared to those we’d enjoyed at Sycamore and Kirigin(or almost any other winery where we have ever tasted). After our first pour, the host went right back to his computer screen. When we’d finished our first taste, he came back, poured a tiny sample of the next wine and returned to the computer. We went over to the couches to sit down since clearly we were going to learn nothing about Jason-Stevens or their wines from our host. He did come over with a bottle for our next pour. so at least he remembered that we were there. When we were done, he asked if we’d like to buy anything. We thought, but did not say, «you have got to be kidding». Our time at Jason-Stephens was certainly forgettable, but more than I believe that if a winery is going to charge for a tasting(and I fully understand their need to do so in today’s world), they at least have an obligation to tell you something about themselves and their wines. Both Sycamore and Kirigin did so, Jason-Stephens did not even make the effort. There are so many wineries in the area that make the effort that I’d recommend any of them over a visit to Jason-Stephens. BTY, we’ve tasted at probably over a hundred wineries all over California and Oregon, we are not newbies.
