Cascade Eye & Skin Centers P.C. in Gig Harbor, WA is an ophthalmology and Lasik vision correction practice staffed by board-​certified physicians who bring outstanding credentials and comprehensive experience to the laser eye surgery fields.

Cascade Eye & Skin Centers, P.C., is a large group of board certified physicians specializing in ophthalmology, laser vision correction (LASIK), and dermatology, and it is one of the most successful medical practices in the western United States.

In 1995, Cascade developed as a union of two leading practices in western Washington — Tacoma Eye Clinic and Eye & Skin Associates. The original Tacoma Eye Clinic had roots dating back to 1967.

Today Cascade employs over 30 eye and skin providers (physicians and physician assistants).

With over 8000 ocular surgeries (LASIK, PRK, cataract, and glaucoma), Keith F. Dahlhauser, M.D., F.A.C.S. has the experience; but it is more than just experience that counts.

He says, «The most experienced hair cutter is the barber at boot camp, but would you want him to give you a haircut before your wedding?»

Just as important as experience in surgery is attention to detail, modern equipment, concern for the patient, and monitoring of results. Therefore, all surgical patients are seen preoperatively and postoperatively by the same ophthalmologist/​surgeon at Cascade Eye & Skin Centers.

Prior to joining Cascade, Dr. Dahlhauser was a Lieutenant Colonel and chief of cataract surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center, where he spent 10 years teaching residents how to perform cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Dahlhauser received the «Teacher of the Year» award in six of those 10 years and gained experience dealing with unusual complications.

If you are on Apple or United Heathcare, don’t bother going to this bussiness. They treat you like a second rate citizen. However, if you have decent health care you might be treated better. I was going in for a couple things like a spot that could be cancerous. I have been to spas like this before so I know the routine! He could of at least offered some sample so I know my skin would not have a reaction. Instead he offered many products with a student budget I could not afford. When you go in for a spot on your skin they usually check you all over. Like I mentioned, he shuffled me along and didn’t bother! I was rather shocked by his attitude and they way he treated me.

While I really liked the nurses and esthetician who performed the restorative skin care procedures, the front desk staff is snooty. Regardless of what I did, from filling out a form, to asking for a particular brand of cosmetic, it was wrong and with a loud condescending voice, the woman (girl really) behind the desk let me and the entire waiting room know. What happened to patient confidentiality? I suppose all that goes out the door once you’re in the realm of cosmetic medical procedures. Apparently they train the entire office staff to approach clientele in the same manner because I found the very same attitude with the eye-​wear staff, who are really just glorified clerical employees. Its akin to feeling like you have to dress up to have your make up stripped and your face worked on, why? Its nice that the staff is well dressed and wears designer footwear and professional make-​up, but that’s no reason for them to look down their noses at the customers.
I give five stars to the professional staff, and one star to the clerical staff.

As a patient of dermatology (due to eczema) for over 30 years, I would not recommend Cascade Eye & Skin Centers, specifically dermatologist K. Wenner. New to the Gig Harbor area, my experience with establishing new healthcare providers for our family has been fantastic. My experience with Cascade Eye & Skin is the exception.
Wenner recommended a Kenalog injection in an effort to treat my eczema, with no warning of the potential for deformative side effects at the injection site. In retrospect, a quick internet search would have led me to the decision to refuse this treatment at all costs. Instead, I chose to trust the provider.
In a follow up appointment, Wenner stated that she «usually tells patients» but could not recall for sure whether she warned me of the side effects due to the time that had passed (I did not request a f/​u until I experienced pain). She had no further recommendation and could not expand upon whether the deformation at the injection site would be permanent.
The appointment ended with an arms-​crossed, condescending and cavalier apology. If you have a chronic issue — or any dermatologic concern — and no time for ineffective, irresponsibly-​prescribed treatments and poor bedside manner, I would seek additional healthcare options/​providers.

I went in a few months ago to see Allison Prim about an autoimmune disorder. She recommended the kenalog injections. I told her I was a type 2 diabetic. She did not warn me of any side effects of this drug. That night I had to be rushed to the hospital. I felt like I was having a heart attack and my sugars were 454. At the hospital they said I was having a panic attack due to the steroids. I’ve had three other doctors confirm this. I called Allison to get some help and it took her two days to get back to me. She then proceeded to tell those other doctors were stupid. She also said since I wasn’t a doctor I wouldn’t know what got me sick and there was no way that small of an injection could give me a reaction. Guess what one of the serious side effects are of this drug? She was very unprofessional and unwilling to even be the slightest bit empathetic. She couldn’t have cared less that a drug she gave me caused me to have such a severe side effects. Since I’ve had those shots I’ve been having multiple panic attacks a day and one of the injection sites is puffed out. Unfortunately my insurance only covers this clinic so I will just have to deal with it. I would not recommend this doctor since she obviously understands nothing about side effects and her bedside manner is atrocious.

Forget it and don’t go if you want something as simple as eye apt., glasses, and contacts. Although staff is very friendly and professional, the wait time was too long AND they only fit contact lenses once a week?!

After a somewhat exhausting search for new eyeglass frames I visited Cascade Eye and Skin in Gig Harbor. As soon as I walked into the store I was greeted by a salesperson in the optical department named Donna. She was extremely helpful, polite, and informative. She called my insurance company to verify my benefits and helped to narrow down appropriate frame choices for my face. After selecting new frames she wrote up the order and I was out the store in under an hour. I am going to give Cascade Eye and Skin Center and Donna five stars. Thanks for the great customer service!

I was recently on a quest to get new glasses, and this was my first time looking in Gig Harbor. We went to a number of places in the area, but they either either didn’t take my insurance, or they didn’t have anything I liked. We ended up at Cascade, and I was very impressed. They have a person there who will help you pick out frames that look good on you (granted, a very subjective process, but still nice for someone to point out the obvious like «the frames are too narrow.») I was able to find some frames and she took care of all the insurance while I waited, so I knew exactly what it would cost.
A few weeks later, wen I picked them up, I put them on and I couldn’t see out of them! One of the lenses was obviously not made to my prescription. She checked the new frames against my prescription and against my old glasses, and lo and behold, it looks like my eye doctor gave me a wildly off prescription! She assured me that they would remake them at no cost (free!), and she then adjusted my frames to my face so that when I picked them up they would at least fit.
Well, I dropped off a new prescription today, and I left feeling very pleased with the level of customer service they provided to me, even though all the errors I faced were in no way their fault. Really top-​notch place.

I haven’t been in Gig Harbor long and originally went to Peninsula Dermatology based on a referral from my doctor. This is what I posted about them today:
I couldn’t remember the name of the woman I saw, but judging from the other reviews, I’m guessing I saw Erin. I went in for three issues. 1 — I have psoriasis on my scalp, 2 — my fingernails are becoming detached from my nail beds and 3 — I had what I thought was a new mole on my chest. She barely looked at any of them… told me my psoriasis wasn’t that bad, the «new mole» on my chest was due to the fact that «you’re getting older, that’s normal» and the fingernail thing was also due to the fact I was getting older and my skin was getting more delicate and couldn’t handle the stress of hitting my nails on things anymore. Supposedly all I had to do was cut them and keep them as short as possible and they would repair themselves.
I finally broke down and made an appointment with my boyfriend’s dermatologist at the Gig Harbor Cascade Eye & Skin Clinic and got in the same day. The dermatologist I saw there, Allison, was awesome. She took a lot more time to understand my issues and came up with this (as opposed to the woman at Peninsula Dermatology) 1– The psoriasis on my scalp was «a whole lot of stuff going on» and gave me a new medication PLUS is putting me on antibiotics for 2 months because it was so bad. 2 — She said the worst thing I could do with my fingernails was to force a fingernail clipper under my detached nail to cut it off and gave me a cream medication to heal it. 3 — She said it was a stress related bump and froze it to remove it.
There were a lot of other things that I don’t care to share publicly, but I would like to strongly advise against going to this facility.
But Allison at Cascade Eye & Skin Centers was amazing. She was funny, wanted to know details and really seemed to work to try and figure out how to fix things. I’ll know better in a few months if her options are going to work, but I at least walked out of there feeling like she cared, as opposed to Peninsula Dermatology.
