I was out riding my bike and one of my shifter cables broke. I was about a half a mile away from this shop so I brought it over to have them look at it. When I got there I noticed they had just closed. One of the employees was standing outside helping a customer test ride a bike. He asked what I needed. I told him I just wanted to drop the bike off and have them fix the shifter cable. He told me to come in anyway because their mechanics were still there. I thought he was just gonna fill out a work order for me but he fixed my bike right there. I was very happy about that because it meant I didn’t have to be without my bike for several days. He didn’t have to do that either, he could have just told me to come back the next day since they had been closed for 10 minutes. I thought it was very cool of him to do that. M

I haven’t bought a complete bike there, but have bought components that are more than some bikes. They do all of my service work (John). John is the best. He clearly understand the products and he is a craftsman. He rides as well so he appreciates and enjoys bikes.

I’m not a super serious cyclist but this is the best bike store for my family. They offer lifetime tune ups on bikes purchased there and do minor repairs and don’t charge labor (if you bought the bike there). In the past month I’ve brought in two bikes and they have dropped what they were doing to address my issue and have me on my way in a few minutes. I came in with a flat tire and they didn’t just fix that, they tuned up the gears and brakes too, all in 20 minutes! Glad they are in my neighborhood!

Great to interact with Craig and his crew. I have purchased two bikes from G’town bicycles (2012 Santa Cruz Superlight and 2013 Specialized TriCross) and would purchase again. The lifetime tune-​ups are great. Its worth the trip for me 1x/​year to head up to the shop and get my wheels sorted out.

It troubles me to write this review, honestly, but I feel I have to in the light of so many awesome little bike stores out in the world of hard-​core cyclists. If you’re comparing apples to apples then the store should be compared with an underperforming Performance or a very profit driven chain. The guy that helped me was nice enough; I was looking for someone who was truly truly into hard-​core cycling, ideally road cycling. The store really did not have very much in it and what I was looking for high-​end lights and performance cycling gear. I guess what I’m saying is that if you go to Germantown Cycles don’t expect a very wide variety or even a different variety than anything you can get at Performance. What you will get a Germantown cycles is attention to the consumer, which is super helpful if you don’t work on your bikes at all and just occasionally ride.

After visiting LBS x 5, I decided to purchase 2 road bikes from Germantown Cycles – thanks to John & Scott! What did it for me was their honesty, knowledge, sincerity, competitive pricing, lifetime tune-​ups, $ 50 for $ 75 Unilocal voucher, and proximity to my office. I ended up purchasing a used Giant, as well as a 2015 Giant (pre-​order) for my SO.

I found this place by googling the nearest bike repair shop. I needed a new saddle (the «torture device,» as Craig had so eloquently termed) and had to fix a stiff link on my bike chain. I’m a total noob at any of this bike stuff, but Craig (owner) didn’t judge me for asking amateur questions about my bike. Here’s what happened in my visit–
— got a new saddle: Germantown Cycles put that onto my bike
— repaired/​lubricated link on the chain: charged $ 1 (but ended up not billing me on it at all)
— got a new bike rack for my car: Craig talked me through my options and then after picking a bike rack, he assembled it onto my car
— got a new helmet: he was right by me help in me to find my size
— got a new air pump: Craig didn’t try to sell me the most expensive option, but was very real about which product best suited my needs
Craig didn’t push any products, and his general disposition was so peaceful and chill. I inquired about different kinds of bikes and bike racks and he was knowledgeable, helpful, and patient.
I think I found my regular bike shop.

After suffering much angst dealing with Performance in Gaithersburg (2 months for a tune up? REALLY???) I decided to look into the little shop up the street from me.
Best. Service. Ever.
I had my old bike tuned up in a day, and several tweaks to it afterwards which were not charged (since I’d just had the tune up)
I test rode several bikes, including the bike owned by the owners wife. I had ridden several before coming here, and was undecided. Getting to experience the high end components made all the difference and I bought my bike from them.
More recently, I bought a trainer from them. They assembled it for me and showed me how to use it before I brought it home. When I bought my Thule bike rack from them, again they assembled it and put it on my car for me and showed me what I needed to know. I love this store!!!

these guys are great! personal service, they take the time to explain options, knowledgeable staff and professional. i brought in two bikes for a tune up, they looked at one and told me that it didn’t need a tuneup, so they filled tires, inspected and gave it back free of charge! my other bike got a great tune-​up and got all the quirks worked out. these guys are a little bit out of the way for me, but i’ll make the trip gladly for this kind of service. great experience!

Super nice people who do good honest work.
Called to get a ballpark on tire replacement for my daughter’s bike. They gave me a rough idea, but said to go ahead and bring the bike in to be sure. We brought it in and they were able to fix her tube right there, right then! They checked everything out and said the other tube and both tires were fine. I’m glad they weren’t out to find unbroken things to fix. We picked up some new grips while we were there and they were kind enough to put them on for us.
Will definitely be back for work on my own bike!

This family friendly, enthusiast, 2 wheeled full service store gets A+. Craig, Heather, Lex, John, and Alex all take time and are very considerate. Great place and very friendly and knowledgable staff. I purchased a bike rack from the shop and the staff was helpful in showing me how to place the rack on my car. The next day I came back and brought my bike in for a tune up. My bike was ready the day they told me it was and price was the same as what they quoted me. The customer service rep was also helpful in setting my bike to my preference and took the time out to do that. I will definitely go back for any other bike needs.

I have been bike shopping for a few months now. Once I narrowed my search to a few bikes, I started shopping for the best bike shop as well as the best bike for me. There is a lot to look for when choosing a bike shop and a bike. Germantown Cycles offers free lifetime tune ups on their bicycles. This is a huge deal for someone looking to buy a bike. A tune up at different shops can cost 60 dollars or more, so if you own a bike for 10 years and get it tuned once a year, that’s $ 600 in savings.
I went in and knew which two bikes I was between. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the owner and his crew. They were all very nice and helpful. The salesman I worked with (John) was very knowledgeable about the bikes. I was able to test ride the two I was between. I ended up buying the bike from them (using the Unilocal deal as well to save $ 25 dollars). I asked him if I could save anything by also buying a helmet, he took $ 5 off the helmet. I also bought a water bottle cage, which they installed for me free of charge.
If you sign up for their emails, they also give you a coupon for $ 5 off. In the end, I ended up having $ 85 taken off my bill.
John even helped me put it in my car. As soon as I got it home, I put the front wheel on but I noticed the brakes were rubbing. I was worried so I brought it back in to just have them double check it. The owner spent a few minutes checking it out and just tweaked the position of the wheel and they readjusted the brakes to make it easier to align the wheel to the brakes. There was no problem at all.
Overall, I had an excellent experience here. Everyone I dealt with was extremely nice and knowledgeable. I would strongly encourage anyone to go here for a bike.

Friendly and knowledgeable with fair prices for repairs and inspections. They carry Specialized and Giant so they don’t have a huge selection but those are two great brands so you probably don’t need much else if you’re in the market for a truly great bike.
For myself, I just needed to get my 14-​yr old Trek inspected. Hadn’t ridden it in 10 years so wanted to make sure it was still good. They gave me a free inspection and refilled the air in my tires. Bike was good to go. It was so quick I was shocked.
I also have a Timberline GT that needs some work and I wasn’t sure the best place to take it. Now I know where to go!

I’ve been here 3 times now for service. Every time they get my bike back as quickly as they can, for a fair price and in perfect working order! They do such a good job that it isn’t worth me tuning it up on my own.
Another big plus is every other bike shop (and auto shop for that matter) seems to find things I need to buy/​repair when I bring a bike in. Not so, with Germantown. The price is as-​quoted, or less, and that is what will keep me coming back.
I’ve also found that the techs take their time to explain components to you so you can make field adjustments when needed. Nice shop, glad to have them here.

A great shop with friendly and attentive staff, good selection and a good vibe. These guys won’t try to upsell you into getting the most pricy bike out there, and instead will get you set up with what works for you and your style of riding. Highly recommended and worth the drive from DC. Plus, you can take your new ride out for a jaunt at Schaeffer Farms immediately after!

This local bike show is great if you are just starting your search for finding a bike that best suits you. I went there originally with my boyfriend to find a bike for him and a week later I was placing an order for a bike for myself! I ordered the Vita Specialized, black and hot pink, beautiful bike! The friendly and super knowledgeable staff actually recommended it to me, and I had noticed what a sharp looking bike it was the minute I walked in. They helped find the right size for me, and when it came in they assembled it correctly with no errors the first time! I can’t say the same for my boyfriend’s bike that he ordered from REI…
Like I said, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly– but not pushy. I think the owner’s name is Craig, he was ALWAYS behind the counter helping out every time I visited the store– so he obviously wants to help you out with finding a bike that fits you best.
I even did a little online shopping to price out the bike I liked and Germantown Cycles was matched with the best prices online!
Definitely stop in here first if you are looking at road bikes for the first time, or even hybrid and mountain bikes, they will help answer all your questions!

I went to this shop yesterday to pick up a rim and cassette for my sons mountain bike. The people there were very friendly. They put the rear rim and tire together in about 10 minutes. Saved my up coming 3 day week ends bike riding. Lots of nice bikes in stock there. I am glad I found this place since it is a mile from my home.
