The Mooring Bed & Breakfast

We had our wedding there and the view is absolutely AMAZING! The food at the wedding was delicious and the breakfast that is made every morning is great too. However if you are planning on having a wedding here and want to stay up past 11 then this is not the place for you. We rented the entire bed and breakfast and Friday evening the guys stayed up until 12:30am talking and playing lawn games. I could not hear them from my room and neither could any of the other guests that were staying there. They were forced to go in because it was late enough. The Saturday of the wedding we knew music needed to be done by 9pm and guest gone by 10. However we booked the whole bed and breakfast and wanted to stay up late and have fun with the wedding party we got forced to go inside and then figured once we were inside we could stay up as late as we wanted at 2:30 am we were told it is late enough. (I am aware 2:30 is late however if we are renting the whole place we should be able to stay up as late as we want). Each morning, Saturday morning before the wedding one of the groomsmen heard the owner talking badly about us and then Sunday morning a bridesmaids that was staying with us heard us being talked about again. We were planning on staying Sunday but felt so uncomfortable we left but we’re still charged for 2 rooms. She is super attentive while you are planning but once you get there even from the beginning you do not feel very welcomed.

My friend and I just got back from a one-​night stay at The Mooring on Georgetown Island on our way home from Camden. It’s a gorgeous location and a perfect place for an ocean-​front wedding, which appears to be one of its draws. The driveway leading to the house is lined with white hydrangea trees and the gardens are filled with flowers and lily ponds. Our 2^nd-​floor room was large, comfortable and beautifully decorated (every guest room has a theme AND an ocean view) and we fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocky shore below.
Penny is the perfect hostess — she had a bottle of wine and two glasses waiting for us when we arrived and a list of local restaurant menus for us to peruse. She’s friendly, professional and doesn’t hover. Breakfast was MUCH better than I’ve come to expect at most B&Bs — piping hot, delicious French toast with bacon, blueberry muffins and fresh fruit salad. Penny’s 9-​year old grandson gave us a tour of the grounds and provided a bit of history as well (he’s the great, great, great grandson of Walter Reid, the donor of spectacularly pretty Reid State Park, just down the road from the inn.)
Unfortunately, The Mooring’s website doesn’t begin to do justice to the lovely house, gardens and ocean views. It’s a shame, because The Mooring is a great getaway, not too expensive and close to both Bath and Portland if you’re in the area.

Location is perfect, we had a little problem where our reservation was lost, but luckily there was room. Got a different room than we reserved, but it was nice. That is where this place lost a star.
This is definitely one of those ‘leave you alone’ B&B’s. Even breakfast is buffet style. If you are looking for a solitary getaway, this is a good pick. It is right on the water and I wish I had more time to just sit and soak up the atmosphere. Not too far from a few eating establishments and not much of a drive to get up to Bath for an afternoon of shopping.
