Spruce Point Inn Resort and Spa

This place is great. Tons of stuff to do for the kids. Arcade and shuffle board along with outside sports located right next to the pool which is great. Friendly professional staff. We stay here every year.

Lovely inn and spa. Absolutely the nicest people in the world. Came here with my daughter and we loved every minute. Fabulous scenery, great restaurant, the trip around the bay with the private captain is something not to be missed.

This place thinks of everything! They have athletic equipment for the kids to play. A campfire with s’mores. Hiking trails. A boat shuttle to get you into the town area. Kyaks and paddle boards to use. AND all of it is included.
The only problem I have which is why I gave it a 4 is that their hot tub near the salt water pool was too cold and not very clean. And the other hot tub near the spa was SCALDING hot! We asked the lady if she could turn the heat down and she said she couldnt.
The location and amenities are great!

We were attending a wedding at the inn and decided it might be a good opportunity to take a mini family vacation. The resort upon arrival had absolutely outstanding views. The grounds are very well taken care of and then resort itself is quite and relaxing.
Our room was right in the heart of everything and the view from the porch was perfect for watching the sunset. The room was very spacious more than enough room for the 4 of us. The bathroom was huge and the shower very nice. I was disappointed however that even though we made the reservation for 4, there were no bed linens in the room for the pull out sofa. I had to call the main desk to have housekeeping bring these to us at 9:30 the first night when my children were ready for bed. Also the linens on the king sized bed where inside out which can make you wonder if they were laundered. They also keep popping off the corner of the bed. To be fair I did check the sheets and they seemed fine. I had hoped that when housekeeping came in to clean they wouldn’t remedy the situation but the sheets where never changed the bed was just made. One other thing was that top sheet on the bed was upside down leaving the tag at your face. This is a little thing but for the price I would expect perfection.
Our children loved the place and all there was to do. Kayaks, paddle boards, and other amenities are plentiful and they could go right out without a wait. They loved the pools, giant chess board and most of all the S’mores station. The staff, although pleasant, where less enthusiastic and friendly that I would expect. The server for our first lunch on «the deck» seemed confused and got several of our times incorrect. Breakfast buffet at Bogies was nice. The first day we felt abandoned, coffee wasn’t refilled etc but the next day our server was fantastic.
The wedding was beautiful and all seemed to go very well. Food was OK but again the wedding seemed understaffed. No on ever came around to clear glasses off our table and by the end of the night it was jam pack full of empty drinking glasses. Again it may seem like small detail but those are the things that make a place 5 star.
We booked our reservation over the phone and when the price was quoted we where not informed for the $ 63 a day resort fee. We were not aware until we received our final bill upon checking out. I dislike when this is just not figured into he per night room rate. The food prices also seem slightly higher than I thought they should be. Food was very good but again for the price I expected more.
In summary the place is incredibly beautiful and has plenty of New England charm. I was very happy we stayed and was completely relaxed at the end of our 4 days. Just a few minor improvements in staffing and housekeeping and I would have been able to give it 5 stars.

Friendly staff and excellent service. The restaurant Bogies is casual but has very good food and a great selection for the breakfast brunch. Loved the Maine feel that the inn had. It was like extremely luxurious camping! Also be sure to check out the paddle boards.

First the front desk personnel were absolutely superior. The review is just an average review because they’re missing many of the fine points which make a facility excellent.
The organization for the service in our conference was haphazard. The HVAC was inconsistent and either left the participants extremely cold or extremely hot.
All in all it’s a beautiful property that is poorly run.

Wonderful atmosphere, however that’s about the only reason to go here. The food was edible, however the service was incredibly undesirable! Not sure how one meal could have multiple disappointing points.
1. We ordered baked mussels, however the waitress returned moments later to let us know, we sat in the wrong dining room to be served that dish. WTF
2. Asked for cracked pepper for my salad, the waitress brought me the 12″ pepper mill and placed it next to me. Never have had to pepper my own salad, in a place such as this before. Amazing
3. When the food was delivered to the table, the waiter never asked if we needed anything else. While we ate, no one ever asked if we needed anything.
4. As we finished our meal, with EMPTY glasses … Then empty plates sadly sat in front of us. We certainly did not get rushed during this meal.

I’m giving this resort 4 stars mostly for housekeeping. My husband and I stayed here mid September for the majority of our honeymoon and had an amazing time overall.
They have a program where if you skip a day of housekeeping, you get a $ 10 credit to use in their restaurants. So we said let’s try the program; we like saving resources. However the second day we didn’t skip, housekeeping didn’t do a great job. The room wasn’t vacuumed, coffee wasn’t replenished, sheets weren’t changed, no tissues, etc. It was disappointing for the price you pay. Also, our room had a fake wood stove that was supposed to kick on with the heat, but it was broken and so was the heat light timer in the bathroom.
We stayed in a water front cottage with a porch. The view was fantastic! My favorite part of the room was the large fleece blanket. This came in handy on chilly mornings and evenings. The room had an upscale summer cottage feel. The sitting area looked nice at the front of the room, but the couch was very hard. However, it was really nice to have a mini fridge, in room Keurig, jacuzzi tub, and skylight.
Everything else about the resort was 5 stars. The staff was so friendly and helpful both at the front desk and the restaurant and bar areas. Their activities director was awesome too! They had campfires with s’mores, gorgeous trails, a brewery tour, and more. We could have borrowed bikes, kayaks, or stand up paddle boards, but it was a little chilly. There is also a complimentary boat or shuttle to take you into downtown Boothbay. The boat ride was fantastic!
Spruce Point Inn is a gorgeous resort. A lovely Maine gem!

Nice place but SO overpriced. For the price I payed it should have been really tops and instead… it’s got a nice distant water view, the room has an odd old wooded wall that blocks the ocean view from the bed, the wood is old and cabinish and scratched and the resort is not at all tops. Stay at one of the other resorts for ½ the price or even the expensive all inclusive which includes sailing and 3 meals a day for the price of just overnight here :(

I enjoyed my stay here. The property is well kept and views of the bay were beautiful. Relaxing and romantic if you’re there with a significant other (with the exception of a few families with children running around). I never went to ether of the pools because of the children– I like to lay out without them running around and screaming in my ear.
Some unique amenities/​features:
1) The giant chess board on site.
2) Game room with coin operated arcade games for the kids if you have them.
3) Apparently they have s’mores station in the evenings but I didn’t get a chance to try it out.
4) We took a sail «lesson» right off their pier and it was great!
Super cute place; wouldn’t call it a «resort» per se, but enjoyed a relaxing visit here. Traveled as a couple. Sort of wished it was less «family friendly» ;)

My husband and I spent a wonderful autumn weekend in at the Spruce Point Inn. First off, the staff was amazing. I was actually surprised at the level of service considering it was the last weekend of the season. Everyone, from the front desk agent to the bartenders to the staffer hosting the complimentary campfire s’more festivities on Saturday night, was absolutely gracious and attentive.
The main building and grounds were lovely, decorated in a classic New England style. Although our Oceanview Modern Lodge room could use some updating, it was spacious, comfortable and had a balcony with a million dollar view.
We’d love to return during the summer as the resort offers so many amenities that we weren’t able to enjoy due to our October visit. One word of advice, this is definitely a family resort. There were a lot of «energetic» children there during our stay so this isn’t a romantic getaway for grown-​ups kind of place.

We luckily stumbled upon Spruce Point Inn and, sight unseen, made a reservation. We were not disappointed and in fact found it to be one of the nicest places we stayed on our 14 day trip through New England. The grounds are beautiful, rooms spacious and very nice (we had a modern lodge unit complete with kitchen) and the amenities are excellent. The people working at the Inn are all as nice as can be and very genuine. There are two pools, jacuzzis, weight room, tennis courts, ping pong, air hockey, bikes, kayaks and both boat and van shuttles into town. It is an excellent place to come with a family as there is something for everybody. We just loved it and would encourage others to stay too!

We just stayed at Spruce Point Inn Resort and Spa for two days and have a mixed reaction. To begin with, it’s not a spa, and to call it a spa is misleading. The food isn’t particularly healthy. We were not aware of any spa amenities or wellness offerings beyond outdoor massage. And the fitness center, while certainly workable, was nothing like what you would expect from a «spa.» In reality, Spruce Point Inn is a really beautiful, pleasantly rustic, super kid friendly resort with a cute, summer camp feel to it. Our room was spacious and very nice. Comfy bed. Excellent shower. The outdoor pool, overlooking the ocean, is delightful. We LOVED kayaking on the bay. And the staff, mostly comprised of clean cut young people, makes up for a palpable lack of hospitality experience with big smiles and great energy. They’ll do just about anything to help you enjoy your stay. The one big sore miss at SPI is that there’s no food shop. There’s literally no place on property to buy an apple or a container of yogurt. This struck us as a startling oversight. We were also shocked and dismayed at the washer/​dryer situation. There are only two washers and two dryers, and the coin vending unit was out of detergent. I had to borrow some detergent from a staff member. To my mind, if you’re going to offer DIY laundry facilities, do it right (new machines, more machines, etc.) or don’t do it at all. Still, taking everything into account, we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend SPI to anyone looking for a kid-​friendly resort in the Boothbay area.

This review is for Bogies only. Went there for my birthday dinner last night as I noticed they had chicken and waffles, my husband’s favorite. We got there, were nicely welcomed, shown to our table and provided menus. No chicken and waffles. So my husband asked for the moxie pork chop. That was also not available. He opted for a steak cooked medium. I got the fisherman’s feast which was salmon with local vegetables for $ 24.We also ordered the potato skin, yes, singular, off the snack menu, advertised at $ 6. The bread was delicious, the potato skin was good. Our entrees were so so. His was rare, my vegetables were carrots, parsnips and potatoes, nothing green. Then we got the bill and everything other than our drinks was more than we saw advertised on the menu. The spots to skin was charged as $ 10, the special was $ 28 and my husbands steak was also $ 3 more than on the menu. With 2 beers and a soda and top, the meal cost us over 100 $ which seemed a lot for what it was. Again, ok not great. Could have easily had a nice meal in town for less.

I must have been a very good girl this year, because for my birthday I was whisked away to a wonderful weekend at the Spruce Point Inn! This dog-​friendly resort in Boothbay Harbor, Maine took my breath away. We had a king-​sized suite with a «partial ocean view». Their idea of partial view is still WAY more ocean than I was expecting! One pleasant surprise on top of another! Our room was comfortable and spacious, well stocked with towels and robes. We didn’t need to call the desk for a single thing during our stay. The large bathtub was divine for a two-​person soak, and I appreciated the complimentary bath salts to go along with it.
The campus has an incredible amount packed into such a cozy space – at no time did we feel at all cramped or overwhelmed. There is an on-​site spa, where I spent a wonderful three hours being pampered, by way of pedicure, facial, and massage. It was more professional than some stand-​alone spas I’ve been to!
There are two pools on site, each with its own hot tub. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to enjoy these amenities much, though we did spend a half hour or so watching the clouds from the lower hot tub.
We ate dinner and breakfast at Bogie’s – YUM! It’s Maine, so I ate lobster for every meal. Their 1.5 lb lobster dinner was fresh and delicious, and the lobster benedict was a great way to start my day.
I would be THRILLED to return to SPI on a warmer weekend, but what we lacked in good weather was more than made up for by the comfort and pleasure of our stay here.

The Spruce Point in is a fabulous place to have a wedding weekend. We had ours the weekend of October 15, 2011 and were so so pleased with everything. It was amazing!
We did a New England BBQ in the Linekin Room on Friday night and had our reception in Pemaquid Hall. We were going to have the cocktail hour on the Ocean Front Deck, but it was much too windy so the inn set up a cocktail hour off the Pemaquid hall, which was very nice. We got married at the catholic church down the street but a wedding can be set up on the property overlooking the water which would be gorgeous. I have seen pictures and would have been happy to do that as well.
Most of our guests stayed on the property and everyone has reported that they loved everything about the weekend.
Cherie Scott was our wedding coordinator and worked with us since we started the planning process last spring. She was attentive to every detail, always got back to us right away and worked so hard the entire wedding weekend She was always pleasant and went above and beyond every step of the way. Everyone else who worked at the Inn was so, so nice– I can’t stress this enough. The property is a beautiful setting– everyone loved their cottages/​townhouses/​rooms & the views. The main inn is very pretty. and the rooms there are perfect. I highly recommend the Admiral’s quarters for bride/groom.The food was delicious.
This rating should actually be 4.75 stars. the only two minor setbacks were the lack of cell phone reception/​internet signal in the townhouses cottages etc. The wireless at the inn was spotty as well. this was a problem for some guests. The inn does have a computer linked to the internet via landline in the library, which is good. I am sure they have tried to resolve the reception problems and that there is not much they can do. The other setback was the water temperature in the Admiral’s quarters in the main inn– it ran very hot and cold and was hard to get just right– it was possible just took a while and was a bit frustrating.
I love love love the Spruce Point Inn and HIGHLY recommend it for a wedding. Do the whole weekend thing if you can afford– well worth it!

Had dinner at 88 Grandview so my review is restricted to this. The inn itself is huge, expensive, lots of nice amenities but obviously out of range of working Americans.
So 88 Grandview is the more expensive restaurant. Idiotic player piano at the entrance was just annoying. Clams were rubber, steak and dessert excellent. Other diners with me enjoyed their meals. Atmosphere was stifling, like watching paint dry. In sum good food but no one looked happy to be there. Given the expense of the meal can’t say I’ll try again.

We had a large dinner party at the Spruce Point Inn recently. We chose the Inn because it was recommended by friends of ours that live in Boothbay Harbor. The location is wonderful, unfortunately that is all I can say positive about the place.
There were 22 of us for dinner. We provided the Inn with our orders a couple days in advance. Upon arrival for dinner we brought into a large private room, the table was nicely set — everything looked wonderful, until we realized that we had only one waiter — for 22 people! Our waiter worked very hard, but there is no way one waiter can provide adequate service to 22 people. Just the initial cocktail order took forever. When the wine bottles ran dry there was a twenty minute wait to get more wine. Finally, we brought our concerns to the manager — his attitude was quite poor. He told us that if we had agreed to a limited «function style» menu as recommended by the Inn, he would have provided us with three waiters, but since we insisted on ordering from the full menu it was really our fault that we only had one waiter. Keep in mind we preordered appetizers and entrees several days in advance. Basically, because we did not do it their way they made us pay.
Beyond the poor service and poor attitude of management, the food just was not very good. Two people had to send the broiled scallops back as they were not edible, the oyster on the half shell were room temperature, the clam chowder was very, very salty — not very good at all, the Lobster Mac & Cheese was a dried out brick of pasta with a dehydrated lobster claw on top — again not edible, the fillets were not cooked properly either. The boiled lobsters were fine — but how do you mess that up. After three bottles of chardonnay, they ran out of the chardonnay we were drinking. They offered us much more expensive bottles of chardonnay. They explained to us that they only stock a few bottles of each bottle on the wine list — are you kidding me! The cocktails were poorly made.
Over all it was a huge disappointment. If you have a large group stay away from the Spruce Point Inn.

The Spruce Point Inn normally has two restaurants, the 88 Grandview, which is very formal, and has a breathtaking view from the dining room, and Bogie’s Hideaway, which is more casual, and has no view. But last summer, they decided to combine the dining space from 88 Grandview into Bogie’s Hideaway, making for a much larger and more casual overall space. Now you can see the great view from the bar!
The food at Bogie’s is pretty great, and not too expensive. I had a delicious chicken, pesto, goat cheese and tomato sandwich for under $ 10.
The view makes it worth every penny.

Been staying at the Spruce Point Inn for years. A throw back of sorts, but still a very cool place to enjoy the Maine coast at its best. We have stayed in most of the houses and cottages over the years. Each has its own charm. This is not a Ritz Carlton (but it does have Ritz prices). The accommodations are rustic, but in a good way.
It is a short walk to town from the Inn. While many of the towns scattered down the coast of Maine are great, we believe Boothbay Harbor is the best balance between snarly lobsterman and fun stuff to do. The town is very Mayberryish and there is always something going on. There are concerts in the town center and some pretty amazing acts that pass through the 100+ year old opera house. There are a handful of really great places to eat (Blue Moon Café, Boothbay Lobster Wharf, Pier One Pizza to name a few), but beware of the typical over-​priced tourists traps as well. There are also a ton of places to visit close by, including Southport and Camden.
Looking for a great vacation combo — do the 4^th of July in Boston and then head up for a week at the Spruce Point Inn.
