La Quinta Inn & Suites Galveston Seawall West

Came to Galveston for a conference at Moody Gardens and our original condo we booked with a friend was not big enough (miscommunication with the owner). With conference, locations booked fast, we missed out on Hilton which we preferred, had a nightmare issue with
, we were desperate for something, so we just started driving to find a place– La Quinta had a vacancy.
Hotel is completely smoke free, which is nice. I’ve never had what I would call a «good» experience when staying at hotels along the sea wall, but I have been in worse places. It’s «clean», but this hotel has a lot of salt water damage. Mildew on the window curtains, and some other areas, but the beds, linens, and bathroom are more than acceptable. It does have a musty smell, but it’s not awful. I’m only here to sleep, more of my time is going to be spent outside of the hotel. Staff has been friendly.

On the way to the hotel I tried calling to verify our reservation, someone finally answered after pushing the 0 option 4 times, and then she put me on hold for 12 min. I hung up.
Got to the hotel and yes they did have our reservation. The young lady at the front desk seemed over whelmed, and frazzled.
We went to our room and were greeted with the unmistakeable and overpowering smell of mildew and mold, (my nose ran the entire night). The room was not as clean as most La Quinta’s i have stayed in but we made due.
The next morning we were woken to the sound of screaming and crying children, the walls and doors are very thin. This went on for several hours. I called the front desk to see if they could do anything about the excessive noise, I’m not sure if they ever did.
The breakfast served in the lobby as okay, but I’ve had better at other LQ locations.
The security door to the parking lot was broken and the lock mechanism was missing. This means that anyone can gain access to the hotel hall ways and rooms without a room key, also bypassing the lobby area.
Just outside the security door was a car and u-​haul trailer parked in the fire lane, and blocking the door over night.
We were to stay multiple days at this hotel, but after the first night, went to another hotel. For as much as they charge per night, you expect a little more than this.
When I was checking out, I asked to speak to the manager. I was told that there was not one, but that they had hopes of hiring one soon. I got the impression that the staff was only doing the bare minimum to keep their jobs. I can tell you that I will not book this location ever again. The place needs a complete remodel on the inside, and a good general manager to bring this location up to par.

Let me start off by telling you that this hotel was $ 289/​night, which came to $ 332.35 with taxes.
When you first entered the hotel the smell over so overpowering it definitely lets you know what you’re in store for.
The hotel staff isn’t that great — Ernest helped us, but only after I told him «I need to talk to your manager now and I’m not moving until I do.» …that story comes in a little later.
So my husband and I wanted a weekend away with our kids to relax before school. By the looks of it and what it says, we figured this was «on the beach»…it’s not. It doesn’t even give a view of the beach, which was a bummer. It’s across the street from the gulf, but it’s the drop off point, so you can’t just walk across and put your towel down.
The smell and the cleanliness of this hotel fell short, BIG TIME! There were roaches by the elevators and pee stains on the carpet — this hotel allows animals and apparently doesn’t feel the need to clean up after them. The smell of the room was… off. We couldn’t pinpoint what it was, but it definitely was different. We figured it was fine, because we weren’t planning to stay in the hotel all day.
We check out the next morning and I had gotten an alert from my checking account stating that the $ 332.35 was deducted. We had asked them to remove the ATM card and use the credit card we provided them and they assured us they had. Well, not only did they NOT do that, they charged both cards. So we were out the $ 664.70 and during a family vacation this was unacceptable. Poor Ernest at the front desk had the pleasure of dealing with me. When I found out from him they had charged both cards and that the ATM charge wouldn’t fall off for 2 – 3 business days, I was furious. We still had one day left of our vacation and now I have almost $ 700 tied up in this ugly, smelling, dirty hotel! It was around 7:45am and apparently the manager doesn’t show up until 8:00am, so I told him I wasn’t moving. I will give credit where credit is due — Ernest did tell me he had this happen to him one time and he called his bank and let them know what was going on and they credited his account right then, so I tried that and they did, so in the end I suppose it worked out. BUT, they still charged both credit cards the $ 332.35, which shocked me!
I just received an e-​mail from Monica Pena, the General Manager of this location. It was very generic, very ‘we’re sorry we missed the mark, that isn’t how we like to do business’ BS. I find that e-​mail almost as insulting as the entire trip. Don’t send me a generic e-​mail telling me that your staff is cleaning from 7:00am-11:00pm…THERE WERE ROACHES!!! And, to be honest, other than the front desk, I didn’t see a staff member on that property.
This hotel is awful, we hated everything about it and we definitely will NOT go again.

Holy DISASTER!!! Long review, brace yourself!
We came down here to celebrate the fact that my friends daughter was turning 18. All she wanted to do was go to the Seawall! Upon arriving our room was not ready. We had to wait until after 4 to check in. Ok, no big deal we stayed at the beach all day anyway. Finally get into our room and it was hot and it had an odor. Turned the AC down to try and cool the room off and decided to go ahead and take a shower. The bathroom was dirty. There were crackers on the floor and confetti in the shapes of penis’ Listen up, I am not a prude but I wasn’t laughing! Obviously the room had been used for a bachelorette party the night before. After going around and picking up all the penis shaped confetti off the floor I was finally able to take that shower. I wasn’t able to do my hair however because NEITHER of the plugs in the bathroom would work, GAH! Scrap that idea and throw the hair on top of the head! We went to dinner and came back to a cooled off room, plus, an extra BONUS of water all over the floor from the AC unit not draining the condensation out of the back of the unit. Ok, well, day #1 of our «Girls Trip» birthday bash was falling apart. I went ahead and pulled the filters out thinking it may have froze up. The filters were filthy, I cleaned them hoping that would help with the problem. We went down and talked to the front desk. The maintenance man said that the water on the floor was OUR FAULT because we had the unit down too low. He pulled it out and drilled some extra holes out the back wall and vacuumed the plethora of dust out of the back of the unit. Next he was onto the busted electrical in the bathroom. We decided that we didn’t come to watch this guy fix things all over the room and headed over to The Spot for some down time. A few hours later we came back and hit the sack, but not before we figured out that the ice machine on our floor AND the third floor were not working. We tried to put some ice into a cooler cause going to the first floor for use was ridiculous. We were told we couldn’t do this. Really? Great customer service so far!
Next morning:
Well, who needs an ocean when you have a pool at the hotel and a lake in your room ! We had water ALL OVER the floor. It was worse then it was before he touched it. We took every towel we had in the room to sop up the water. Walk into the bathroom, try to use the blow dryer and guess what, that’s right, HE NEVER FIXED THE PLUGS!!!
Back up to the front desk. This time I spoke with Monica, the manager on site. She said that she would refund me one night and that she could move me but not until the NEXT DAY! Ok, oh my lord I was ½ way to blowing. We survived till the next day, they put us in a HUGE suite. It was nice! After spending ¾ of our stay in that sh** hole room this was a nice upgrade! I woke up this morning to a humongous COCKROACH climbing into my purse!!! Ok, you know what! now I’m DONE!!! I go to checkout this morning, pissed, and my receipt showed only a 50% refund not the full night as initially discussed by MONICA! As a matter of fact, she could even remember what refund she gave me… I’m assuming she gave quite a few refunds. So, after ARGUING with this woman for 20 minutes I got the remaining 50% refunded. She is a pathetic excuse of a manager! When I was waiting in line not ONE person was happy with their stay.
Here are a few other things that were broken
The side pool door wouldn’t work. When you left the pool you had to go to the side door. That was fine and dandy until it stopped working too, then we had to walk all the way around. Our balcony door wouldn’t open because it was ruined from the sea air. No clock radios in the room AND the phone in the room didn’t work either. This place gets a big

It is what it is for staying along the ocean side. Salt water damaged and all rooms have that musty mold smell… Hmmmm the smell of the dirty ocean your going to swim in anyway. Staff is real nice and you can tell they try to keep it maintained. I would stay here again for my dog, but if traveling without her I would stay elsewhere.

I can handle the dogs barking down the hall. I can handle the music blaring in the room next door. What I can’t handle is the stream of blood (human I suspect) trailing down the hallway. At 6:00, I reported fresh bloody footprints running the length of the hallway to the front desk. At 10:00, the footprints are still there, dried as you might expect. It’s much too late to find another hotel now that we are here, so I guess we will just keep an eye out for OJ and watch our step.

While staying here I had to remind myself that I’m at La Quinta in a beach town. The room was spacious and has been upgraded (flat screen TV, comfy bed, and décor) but you can see these rooms are treated rough.
In terms of location, it’s just OK. You’re right across from the water and there’s a few restaurants and a movie theater within walking distance. I should note that the beach across the way is rock, you have to drive a mile or so in either direction to get to sand.

Been gone for a week from Okla, stayed in South Padre Island for a week at La Quntia Inn, had a wonderful experience, on way home through Galveston Island, have had good luck all week at La Quntia Inns, so we decided we stay at La Quntia Inn West, big mistake, smelly carpet, cigarette ashes on bed, door handle came off closet in my hand, bed skirt didn’t cover box springs, mattress soggy, missing lamp shade, they moved us to another room, it was just as bad, ice machine didn’t work on third floor! Well we decided to get a refund and leave! Retired Couple from Okla! Please don’t stay there you will be sorry! !!!

When we got here, we discovered that our room was given to someone else. My friends credit card was on the room too. Thankfully, they gave us a comped room. The breakfast had a lot of variety and the staff was very friendly. However, the treadmill in the gym would not work and the elliptical made a strange noise every time I moved it. 1 room in the breakfast area did not have lights to turn on.

Needs updated, bedding is torn, wasn’t that clean, rooms were not even ready for us at 7pm had to stand in the hallway waiting for 45 minutes. Then had to hear housekeepers argue about how management doesn’t know what they are doing for an hour after I was in my room. They are pet friendly which is great UNLESS you and your children are allergic to pets and you hear the darn dog across the hall bark all flipping night long. Only positive they were good about putting our rooms together. La Quinta will always be La Quinta unless they renew themselves.

Kesha at the front desk was such a big help! We stayed at this La Quinta the night before we left on our cruise. She started being very helpful with my calls to the hotel before we arrived. Once we got there she was helpful with the shuttle procedure. The morning of the cruise she was very patient with me I thought they charged the wrong credit card (they hadnt). The rooms were nice and clean and the breakfast was just right. This is where we will stay the next time we are in Galveston. I hope Kesha will still be there!

I did not even want to give one star, but that is as low as would be accepted.
The room stinks of mold, I got sick, they would not move us to another room.
Don’t park in the covered parking. Sewage pours from the building above onto the cars parked under.
The hot tub did not work during the entire 4 day stay. They said electrical problems.
The swimming pool was not usable. The water was brown and not circulating. More electrical problems.
The elevator did not work properly and the key-​card reader on the stair door did not work so you had to walk around the building to get in the front door, then use stairs to your floor.
The Key-​cards had to be reprogrammed 3 times. That is right. You walk up to your floor, can’t get in. Walk back down to the front desk waste time, get reprogrammed, walk back up to get in. All the cards bad each time. You might think one got too close to a magnet once. But multiple cards, multiple times is just screwed up.
The key card reader on the business center did not work. When I said I could not get in they showed me to hold the handle up as hard as you could and kick the door open. No key was needed.
There was no manager on duty during the entire stay. No one had any information or authority to do anything. Or not willing.
The building is in dis-​repair and falling apart. The sewage falling on cars and in the parking area and the mold in the rooms is a health issue. The elevator and being locked out of the stairs is a safety issue. You would be safer and more comfortable sleeping in your car or on the beach.

My fiancé and I stay at LQ inn & suites all over the country and we have never had any issues. I was a little concerned about all the negative reviews for this hotel but decided to book the family suite anyway based on all of our positive previous stays. We were given room 328 and upon entering the elevator from the garage were hit with a moldy/​musty odor that we couldn’t ignore. The room also smelled horrible and I immediately knew we couldn’t stay. We returned the keys and spent $ 25 dollars more for the Gorgeous and historic hotel Galvez on the other end of the island! $ very well spent! For those of you on the fence, trust me, book somewhere else.

While the staff was very friendly — as expected for a La Quinta — house keeping was horrible. Clumps of hair hanging on the shower curtain, and in the bed. Mystery brown green crust in the tub. Trash cans were not emptied, sink and coffee area was not wiped down. Towels and soap were not replaced.

First time staying here… and compared to what we were told from the desk clerk and reservations… not impressed.
First, I expect this to NOT be a 4-​star experience. its a beach hotel that is an in-​and-​out location. After all, you come here for the beach not the hotel room.
What upset my wife when she made the reservation was the higher than expected price, then she asked for a room with a beach view… so she paid extra and reserved it. We check in and learn «NONE of the rooms face the beach» from the check in clerk.
What? Well why did we just pay an up charge for it? Talk about ruining the kids (and ours) expectations.
The hotel looks as if it went through fast renovations. Uneven floors, shoddy paint, doors & locks that need to be forced closed, balcony floors with holes in them, limited expectations should be the minimum when you stay here.
I really wanted to give them 2 stars, but the added star was due to the courteous cleaning staff. They always apologized for being in the hall when rolling past you, etc. Honestly it was not an inconvenience for me, but since I am to be fair on a review… this little point should be noted.
The linens were cleaned, the breakfast was simply a grab-​n-​go muffin set up… yes they had yogurt, milk, cereal, bagels, runny eggs, no meats, cold juices, minimal fresh fruit, and hot coffee… but it was as if a convenience store took everything from packages and laid them out. (kids enjoyed the waffle maker) It would have been nicer for the prices paid and other expectations set when my wife booked the room.
*Additional Note*
The Wi-​Fi hot spots throttle down during self defined «peak» times? There were a few connection points during the day (5,6,7,8) at check in (2−3pm ish) and then all of a sudden… only ONE was available starting from 5pm (ish) through the next morning.
Not sure why the bandwidth and connections went away… but everything was slow at that point. I had some simple business to attend to and emails… and this didn’t help. So the «Free Wi-​Fi» is not something you should use in considering this location as a hotel.
Overall, we got what we needed. A room with A/​C, a shower, big beds with fresh linens, and an over priced room with «extras» like a parking lot view with the beach at an angle (if you lean and look).
We won’t stay here again, there are too many other choices to consider on Galveston for the prices we paid. If it was a crazy «Spring break» event… I would understand. but it was the tail end of summer with a promised beach view we paid for (and got taken on). Bait and switch anyone?
La Quinta Inn… you have done better… just not here.

WORSE PLACE EVER!
First couple times we stayed here all was fine. Next time, we notice there was cum and pubic hair was on the extra bed! Would never have come back after this… but didn’t have a choice cause that is where company books is from time to time. Third time just my husband stayed and was up till 1 am cause someone locked their dog in bathroom and went off partying! Front desk did nothing again… just said they aren’t suppose to do this… sorry.
Last night was are fourth time with an issue! 11 pm a bunch of kids are put in room down they hall. Parents do nothing to control them… they are running up and down the hall yelling. Call front desk… they say they will send someone up! No one shows! Tried calling front desk again., they refuse to answer the call! Just rings! No one ever shows! Try to go down to talk to them… elevator is now broke! We have to go out and tell at them to stop more than once… finally ending it when we tell them we are about to report them to the cops for disturbance! Guessing that is when parents decided they would do something about it!
Next morning asked why no one came, called us back her response… sorry it’s just me here! Why is there no note on elevator… I don’t have time.
I would prefer the hotel 8 or motel 6 over this place! Sad! Really sad! Others are better… this is just puss poor management!
Want a good hotel for around same price… go to the Hampton! Clean & friendly every time!

Good rooms with all the extras. Fine location a bit walking distance from main activities.

This is hell. Over-​priced hell.
Would leave immediately, but booked through agency that has no weekend support.

Made a reservation here with no difficulty. At the last minute, we realized we needed the LaQuinta on East Beach as it’s closer to UTMB. So we called and were put on hold — for 24 minutes, an immediate recording. I called again — put on hold for 20 minutes, on a Sunday afternoon at 3 PM. We called
, thru whom we made the reservation. They couldn’t get a hold of them either. Finally someone answered — and i was hung up on before I could even say anything. Not wanting to let this go, I called back immediately and Aaron answered, and was able to help me. I told him I had been trying to call for an hour, and was there anything wrong there at the hotel? He ignored my question.

Not really sure why anyone give this place 4 or 5 stars. I only paid $ 50/​night for this room because my employer has a discount code with them but I’m definitely getting what I paid for. If you are paying more than $ 50 for this place you are being taken for a ride!
When I walked in, the lady at the front desk was like yelling into the phone at someone. She hung up, helped me check in and then I looked for my room. Well, she said park in the covered lot so I did but there’s like NO signs saying an elevator was nearby. I ended up walking around with all of my bags and finally found it on the other side. In the mean time, they are doing some construction work here so there’s a lot of wood-​cutting and bandsaws and whatnot.
When I get to my floor, I hear about 4 dogs bark at me as I walked by. No big deal, I have a dog too and that’s not really something they can help.
So I get to my room and the whole thing is super humid. Like, I don’t think the AC dehumidifier portion is working. Everything feels «wet» in here… I get it, it’s Houston/​Galveston so humidity is always a problem, but its not normally THIS bad. and not in a hotel room.
The people across the hall were being super noisy. I had just spent 9 hours at a work conference at Moody… so needless to say I was a bit crabby by the time I got to my room. I don’t know what these kids were doing, it was 5:30pm on a Tuesday afternoon and they were blasting crappy dance music and I think playing video games shouting at them. They had a Do No Disturb tag in the door but the door was propped open with the bolt lock latch. Hmm. What? Anyway, So I quietly close the door hoping the noise level would just go down, but nope! They just reopened the door and propped it open again.
So I called the front desk. And I waited… for about 3 minutes of ringing… and I hung up and tried again… and a few more minutes passed. And when the lady finally picks up I ask her to ask the noisy room to quiet down. She says sure and after 10 minutes there had been no change. Not sure if she ever called them.
I’ve only been here for 1 hour and I’m pretty over it already. I’ve stayed at really nice La Quintas and I’ve possibly stayed at crappier ones. But my overall first impression here is honestly not so great. Just need to make it to Thursday…
