Specialties
Visit us during our store hours from 8 am until 7 pm, Monday through Saturday. We are an artisan bakery, all of whose products are made by hand on the premises and presented on the day they are made or baked. But it isn’t just the freshness that is important to us. We try to present breads, croissants, pastries, and bistrot foods. We offer a full wine-tasting every Saturday, 12 — 4 pm. We select a weekly theme and feature wines from a small coterie of very special wine importers, as well as a sampling of our own bakery products. We feature an assortment of gift options including interesting French glassware, linens, fetching hand-made olde-fashioned European cooky molds, ceramics, luxury food products, and unusual wines. We can also custom-create a gift basket to your liking.
History
Established in 1981.
Jackie’s passion to create foods of exceptional taste drove her to start Uppercrust Productions in 1981. We began as a small wholesale bakery run out of a rented house near the University of Florida. In 1986, a need to expand prompted our move to our current location in The Gainesville Marketplace. From its inception, Uppercrust has been committed to presenting the most sumptuously delicious foods possible to its customers, presented in an entertaining, literary, and service-oriented setting. Passion, persistence, a unique vision, and an artistic approach have made us influential food professionals in the community.
We are founding members of the Bread Bakers’ Guild of America and proud members to Slow Foods USA, the James Beard Foundation, & IACP. We are active in the community and sponsor events that encourage the fine arts and donate generously to organizations such as the Gainesville Orchestra, as well as to individual artists and musicians in the community and abroad.
Meet the Business Owner
Jackie D.
Business Owner
Jackie is a former teacher with a background in languages and philosophy. She has possessed a fascination with food from an early age. «At the age of seven, I remember being so disappointed that a lamb roast for dinner wasn’t prepared just right,» she recalls. «I’ve always had definite reactions to food. I assumed everyone was like that.»
Her respect and passion for all things culinary led her to create Uppercrust Productions in 1981. Twenty-nine years later, she continues to oversee the entire operation and evolve the products further. Her extensive travels enable her to really live the cuisine and drink in every detail. The spirit of the dish is what she strives to share with our customers.
She is highly regarded in the food community, both locally and nationally. At heart she is a saucier. Experimentation with tastes and textures and literary and artistic treatments of them are her passion. She is an arch sensualist.
