UF Health Shands Emergency Center-Springhill

Super friendly staff, decent wait time compared to Shands ED (i.e., 3 hrs vs 11 hrs). Learned it’s full service with xray, cat scans and mri.

Ver nice and knowlegable staff. Was my first time there. Did not have a long wait time, only about 45 minutes. Would absolutly recommend it.

Courteous staff, quick getting seen and they gave our kid and our family great care! Made our emergency much easier. The injury required surgery and the transfer to SHANDS was handled very well. Bad accident I wish hadn’t happened, but UF Health Springhill emergency made it easier to deal with.

For an emergency room, this is about as good as it can get. Shands’ new stand-​alone emergency department at Springhill is unique in not being attached to a hospital at all, as are most emergency rooms, but in its own independent building. That said, it still has all the services of a real ER and if a patient needs to be admitted to the hospital, they will be transported via ambulance to the main Shands hospital near the UF campus.
This is why it was a five-​star experience for me, however. I fell skateboarding on New Years’ Day –it was at the skatepark and I know I didn’t hit my head, however later I had vertigo and pre-​syncopal episodes, so I felt I should get it checked out. I went to this ER and they very quickly got me placed in a trauma room, then without much of a wait, the doctor came in to see me. She was both very nice and very professional and agreed I needed a CT scan of my head performed, which they proceeded to do there on-​site. The CT scan was sent via secure internet to the main Shands’ Department of Radiology where a radiologist read it and had the results back to my doctor in – seriously – ten minutes. Yes, ten minutes. Really. The results indicated a cervical sprain but no fracture and no brain pathologies, thankfully. So I was sent home and told to follow up with my primary care doctor who is also at UF Health. I was in and out of the ER in about two hours.
I doubt things are always quite so speedy here – for whatever reason it seemed to be a very slow night for them, yet it is remarkable regardless that they saw me and had me back out in two hours. The standard of care I felt was good as anywhere else I’ve been, too, plus my electronic medical record allowed them to inform my GP of the incident and when I saw him for a routine office visit a few days ago, he was already aware of it and asked how I was. Plus, everything is brand new. All the machines, the CT scanner, the rooms – everything. The nurse and front office staff were very nice and friendly and the doctor was great. Moreover, I looked her up later on the UF website and she’s an associate professor at UF in trauma medicine so don’t think that going to this smaller, stand-​alone ER you’ll get someone inexperienced, either.
Overall, beyond impressed.
