Recently I used Austin for a patent search. Although it was merely a search and I didn’t actually patent anything with him (meaning I’m sure I didn’t make him any big bucks or anything), he still treated me as though I was one of his highest priorities — he returned my calls and emails within minutes, took plenty of time on the phone with me, and performed all his duties within a very timely manner. Since he is a small business and not a large firm, I was able to speak directly with him either face to face, or through phone or email. He was always very accessible. He was also very friendly and knowledgeable and did a very clear and thorough job of explaining everything to me. He has my highest recommendation! (And that says a lot cause almost everything pisses me off about people).

Outstanding attorney! We consulted with Austin about a software patent issue and he took the time to meet with us and clearly and accurately explain our options. He was very straightforward in terms of our options and costs/​time involved and was extremely friendly and helpful.
As someone who is not a big fan of attorneys in general, Austin is not your typical arrogant ego driven attorney and is a really nice person. He was very easy to work with unlike some other attorneys I have used in the past.
I definitely recommend Austin as he is personable, professional, and extremely knowledgeable about his area of practice. He is also rare in the fact that he also understand IT/​technology/​software concepts and engineering which is very hard to find in an attorney with his high level of legal knowledge.

Austin has been our patent attorney for the past few years. We’re a small software and product design firm and have worked with Austin extensively for all of our patent applications.
In the past we’ve used several other large sized firms. What we realized is that in the patent law industry, most firms operate like application mills. They’re very impersonal and most of the time have clerks writing most of the application with final review by a lawyer you’ll almost never get a chance to meet. I really don’t have many good things to say about the other firms we’ve used before Austin. I’m just glad we found him.
Without holding back, Austin is simply the best patent attorney we have ever worked with. He is extremely knowledgeable and has always patiently answered any of our questions regarding the patent process. Also, he used to work as a patent reviewer at the US Patent & Trademark Office before he went to law school. This insider’s view is a huge advantage for us, because he is able to give us great advice on how to navigate all the red tape and bureaucracy.
Another advantage is that Austin was an engineer as well. So most of the time, he’s able to quickly understand our products or software applications without endless meetings. This has really come in handy for us, because Austin has given us a lot of great advice on how to word our patents and protect them when marketing our products.
Overall, working with Austin has been great. He’s very honest, accessible (works from home), and his rates are great for the top notch work he provides. If you’re considering another firm, it’s to your advantage to give Austin a call and meet with him at his home office. You won’t be disappointed, he’s definitely the best patent attorney in Orange County.
