The Rexford Apartments

Don’t go by the pretty pictures, it’s all staged. Even though the management claims that they’ve renovated inside of the apartment, which is infact true and nice, the neighborhood is so bad. The elevator doesn’t work, carpets stink, bachelors renting makes it so noisy at nights, people talking on their phones in the common corridors, in spite of repeated requests they haven’t given me a gate code, so every time someone needs to be received I have to walk up to the main entrance to get them (imagine having a child and the elevator not working), there’s no guest parking inside the property. The management has changed so many times, they were a bunch of egoistic people and now finally there’s a nice lady who is helpful.
My husband and I got stuck in the elevator thrice and the emergency team is not helpful. They called us after an hour. I could just go on and on.
None of the requests I made were heeded to. Maintenance is so so bad. My review doesn’t end here, I will post pictures soon.

This is a terrible place to live. I have lived at the Rexford for about 2 years now and the biggest problem with this place is management they don’t care about the residents at all. The staff has been changing at this property everyday since I’ve been here. I’ve been introduced to multiple different property managers. The last manager I met was Ariel she was extremely rude while going over my account with me she was quite forceful and not understanding at all. She should be fired for treating residence this way. I have also noticed that this property has an infestation of cockroaches and bedbugs though out the whole property. So if you want bad service, un helpful staff, bedbugs, biggest Cockroaches you ever seen then this is the place for you !!!

Hate this place.
One female working in the leasing office is very irresponsible.
Noisy neighborhood, especially if your room is next to the street.
Despite doors with locks, many strangers can enter the building without keys by tail-​gating. Not feeling safe.

it might be 2.5 star and for me that is good. my previous reviews had very negative comments about management and maintenance. but things are improving alot. management has been changed and they have new persons in maintenance.

I share the sentiments of many folks here who wondered if zero stars was available.
Very bad service. Most of the folks at the help desk are down right rude and good at providing excuses (the new manager is better though. wonder how long she will last).
Noisy neighbors, noisy late night parties, trash in the corridors, broken stair-​door handles. Nearly 6 – 8 individuals stay in the premise.

DON“T LIVE HERE!!! I wish there was an option to leave zero stars, because that is what the deserve. The reviews that state the «management is the best» must have been paid to say that. The management team is nothing but a bunch of liars and they have an excuse for everything!!! The community is disgusting; the common areas are always unkept and there is trash throughout the stairwells and the carpets are nasty!!! I am embarrassed to say I live here, yet alone bring family/​friends to my home. Some pet owners do not clean up after their pets. The management allows residents to let their cats roam throughout the community etc…
I was told there was a security officer that patrols the community at night. I am beginning to think that is also a lie. There are multiple light fixtures in the community walkways that have been broken. I brought it to managements attention and they have yet to be fixed. It is so dark, I walk with a flashlight. Isn’t this an issue that the security officer would bring to the managements attention when they patrol the community? I have personally looked for the security guard at night because a homeless man was picking through the trash; he was no where to be found.
Bottom line, they say what you want to hear upon move-​in. Then they don’t care about their residents. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!!!

DO NOT RENT HERE. Everything they promise went you come look at the place is a lie.
The most disgusting place to live ever. Cockroaches, bed bugs, flops houses throughout the community. People awake at all hours of the night yelling outside. Staff changes every 2 – 3 weeks and then they blame the staff that has left for providing wrong information or not responding to issues. They change terms of the lease all the time by posting notes on your door.
6 – 8 people live in apartments meant for a max of 5. People constantly living on the floor. Common carpet never vacuumed. New carpet they put in earlier this year is beyond filthy. I expect this community to be RED tagged any day.

My car was hit in the parking lot by my upstairs neighbors who had 4 to 5 different cars parking in their space. It happened at night and i found it at 6:00 AM. I reported this incident to the Rexford office and nothing happened. No apology. No admission of guilt.
Wish I could give the Rexford a ZERO! I won’t repeat what many others have written. I enjoyed living in the Rexford until December 2014 when it became flooded with students. They party constantly. The police came twice to stop the parties. The neighborhood patrol never came though I called them 5 or 6 times before calling the police at 3AM, 4AM, and 5AM. I tried to talk to the neighbors but when 20 people live in a 3-​bedroom apartment, it’s too noisy and impossible to control. I complained countless times until May when I decided it was unfair for me to pay $ 3,050 per month for a 3-​bedroom as 1 occupant and have cigarette butts thrown into my patio every day.
I really appreciate Ed and Jorge repairing my water damaged ceiling twice — 2^nd floor kitchen and bathrooms overflowed into my 1^st floor unit about 2 month apart. These 2 guys are great. The neighbors are terrible.
Kelly (in the office) is amazing. I wish her all the best. She was very helpful to me.
Unfortunately, I had to move because this neighborhood is horrible with grocery carts, all night parties, parties in the gym at night, trash thrown everywhere, etc.

We lived here for 1 year and moving out shortly. We took the renovated 2B2B and felt happy the apartment was so spacious and ventilated with good patio space. Management are friendly with maintenance staff somewhat prompt. Had very few issues with plumbing etc but were resolved quickly. So what suddenly changed? what is so sucking out here that we had to vacate? pl read on. (Pl read the other reviews with 1* they are all just so true.)
In the last 6 months or so, they started renting out to college students. A lot of them. Appreciate your equal opportunity housing and I was a bachelor myself a while back and cherish those days but not like these irritable flocks of guys and gals who do not have minimum manners or care.
1. Water/​sewage bill is shared amongst all the units in a building. But when these students obviously are craming their rooms with more heads so the bill has quadrupled in the last few months.
2. I overheard a guy saying there were 13 students in their unit and they plan to send 2 – 3 out. what?
3. These happy souls drink, smoke, phone and party all night. Usually its like a quick burst someone runs in the parking lot yelling at others and by the time i go there, no one would be there. Can’t really complain on anyone but i am woke up for sure… almost every night. I stopped going out to my patio to check who that was.
4. Don’t plan to sleep peacefully during the weekends… oh crap!..
5. Management gives 3 sets of keys to each unit but because they are more than 3 in each unit, you will always see someone waiting at the door to tailgate you… they also keep rocks, sticks etc blocking the auto-​closing doors., so in a sense, this is not a gated community any more. And because the gates/​doors are open, I keep getting knocks on my door by sales men, poor men and sick men asking money.
6. And you know, we don’t have safety latches to doors by default. I have to buy it myself and management would happily install it for me. Its just a damn few bucks but it shows the attitude of the management, particularly with the point 5 above.
7. As the other reviews say it too, all the renovation benefits are just gone in a jiffy. The dirty carpets do not look like new any more. People puke on the staircase and don’t bother to clean up. I see ear buds, coke tins, beer cans, plastic covers, cigarrette tips and what not?
8. Um. smoking. Please don’t open your windows for fresh air… There are few happy souls walking the carport area smoking and busy over phone loudly.
9. Smells! um. I am a proud ‘certain demographic’ too. but if someone does a fish fry/​curry at 2am in the morning? almost every alternative day? yeck. If you are a happy vegetarian, don’t even visit this place. Luckily they don’t have open/​private BBQs which is a good thing, but who cares? people do it in their own kitchen and open the doors to save on the freshly installed CO2 alarms. haaah.
10. Its not called a gym… 1 tread mill, 1 bicycle. no weights. small room. and for how many apartments?
11. The pool is good (not heated though) with 8ft depth on one side. (you don’t find 8 but only 5ft in most places), but then there is no shower room, no change room. so what? you really ask me so what? phew!
12. Penultimate shocker. Cars n Doors… They drive cars so careless. 20mph+ speed within the compound where kids run here and there. My heart skipped a beat when I saw an a**olé driving so rash .and the doors!!! oh my. every time we go out, I remind my kids to stay a few feet away from apartment door. because they open so rudely from the other side.
13. Finally, the rent hike was a bummer. They first gave me $ 2450 with $ 200 special equivalent every month. so my effective rent was $ 2250 I was happy but when the hike came in, it was $ 2575 with no specials. which means a $ 325 monthly hike for me. And that was the finishing touch. We signed the intent to vacate today. Cheap tricks and they don’t really care for you to stay long. What a pain is it to move out and change the address in 20 other systems, miss my mails for next few weeks. aah I hate to move between apartments. In my 10 years of work career in India, I only moved thrice. but looks like I have to change my address every year here, because we have a super duper dynamic pricing that effs me from all directions. Hail the laws of the land and the minds of these businessmen, who don’t even know the word ‘hospitality’ when it comes to real estate.

Kelly, the Assistant Manager, is awesome! She is professional and does not appear bothered when feedback or complaints are given. Ed and Jorge are responsive and extremely helpful! I really feel sorry for them because they have to clean up after such nasty people. The residents here leave their doors cracked and just bounce from apartment to apartment. They are so loud! No consideration for other residents. They are up at night time through the wee hours in the morning just kicking it and talking LOUDLY on the phone. You easily see 5 – 15 people going in and out of different apartments and just standing outside smoking, drinking and having a grand olé time. It is like they are all friends and it is an ongoing party for a certain «demographic» as the office likes to call it.
It is typical to see trash, food, shopping carts, and food wrappers all over the place and freshly painted walls scuffed up. There is absolutely no way for the maintenance staff to keep up with these dirty people. It is embarrassing to bring people over. I am always thinking, «they will see why I live here once they get to my nice apartment».
If you are young and of Indian decent, this is the perfect place to live! My neighbors appear to have a GREAT time here! I feel like the mean mom raining on the parade. They are one big close nit community and very friendly people. Unfortunately, I am an older working mom and do not have the luxury of kicking it all night with the neighbors. I need my rest and enjoy piece and quiet. A lot of them smoke. So if you want to keep your windows open for fresh air… FORGET ABOUT IT! You have entered into the second hand smoke zone. Do not come here with children and new born babies. You are voluntarily putting them at risk for cancer. I saw a residents post how they didn’t feel comfortable in their home because they want to smoke. Well, I don’t feel comfortable in my own home due to your cigarette and weed smoke.
The investors/​owners of this property should be concerned. As soon as they make an improvement to the property it is destroyed by the residents. The brand new carpet placed in the common areas are filthy. They should have saved their money and left it as it was.
I’ve been here for a long time and they have gone through several property managers. Jeanne, Rhea, Paula and now they have Crystal. I have also seen them go through three assistance managers. I believe Stacey is still the regional manager and I am shocked that she is leading this renovation and allowing this to go on. She appears to be a professional. So much money and time has gone into this renovation only to let residents tear it all up.
The rent is high, there is no security, club house, or nice exercise facility onsite. The property manager, Crystal, doesn’t seem to be able to get things under control. She says it has to do with the laws; something about 3 days to resolve bad behavior, need proof, blah, blah, blah. The proof would come with security and a manager that walks the grounds. They need to bring back the assistant manager Liz as the property manager in my opinion. She use to walk the grounds, she lived on site and did not allow the residents to treat this place like the party zone.
Yes, I know I am fully aware I can move. I will accept donations for new deposit and movers. Moving is not cheap and it is a pain in the you know what. The investment in onsite management and security will save them money in the long run. Let me make a correction, they do pay security. I say they have no security because they company they use sucks!
Security was better when Liz was here and I think that’s because she was a very pretty lady. Mustafa, the owner of the security company, probably wanted to impress her. If you call them now, they do not show up at all. However, to prove they eventually make it onsite by towing cars in the wee hours in the morning. My daughters care was towed from the uncovered parking. I had no idea she had to have a residents pass to park in guest parking. So, the Rexford basically pays security to come onsite and tow cars.
The cleaning crew they use when residents move out, are noisy and bring their kids to work. They also do not speak English, so if you ask them to have their kid to stop running in the hallway and to stop speaking so loud to each other as they clean up, they just look at your like your are crazy. Just no professionalism at all.
My message to Stacey, the Regional Manager, is the people of a certain demographic manage this place, not the office. You should stop paying security and putting money into trying to make this place look nicer. It’s a waste. Promote or give your maintenance staff a bonus, because they have a nasty job; and you really should find Liz and bring her back.

We just entered this place at 5.45 pm (we work 40 minutes from there).
Nice reception but they informed no tour /​visits after 5 pm. I wish they would mention this on their CL ad:

I have been living in this apartment for over 8 years, and never had a major issue until a few months ago, there were a bunch of people moved in to one of the town house units. They party EVERY SINGLE NIGHT till 1 am. They yell, scream, laugh and run around at midnight almost everyday!!! This is a pure torture to a neighbor who needs to wake up at 7am everyday for work! My family called the office to complain about it, and even knocked their door and told them they were disturbing us, but it seems like nothing can stop their outrageous behaviors. They just don’t give a shit about the neighbors! I’m definitely gonna move out as soon as the contract is over !
To the people who want a quiet and nice place to live, PLEASE do yourself a favor, STAY AWAY from this horrible neighborhood!

Atrociously pricey and bad service. They will make sure when you move out they will get maximum money out of you. For sure not giving you back your refundable deposit back. They will find minor details for example holes left behind after hanging pics and estimate expenses to fix that quiet bloated which shows on your move out bill as a surprise. Quiet unethical and unlawful. No matter if you get the move out cleaning done they will charge you for that.

Not safe, even though gated but no security. Heard there has been break ins.

I’m giving 1 star since I don’t have an option to give 0 star. One of the worst management and maintenance I have ever seen. The Management staff who took us to the tour was good (Kelly) and treated us well but the one who did all out paper work on the move in date was rude and not good enough to handle clients.
1. The unit we moved in was full of flies, ants and insects. And the kitchen sink didn’t had a sink stopper or strainer. The closet doors were not properly fitted.
2. When I called to inform about that maintenance the leasing office staff told me that a work order has to be created.
3. Nobody turned out even after 3 days creating a work order. When I called them to check the status, the leasing office lady was rude in explaining me that my case is not an emergency and it can wait. I was surprised to hear such a rude response.
4. Maintenance guy came on the 4^th day and fixed the closet doors and told me that they don’t provide sink stoppers or strainers. Rather he asked me to buy it from dollar store and claimed that it would be just 1 $. I stayed in many apartments in Fremont and I haven’t faced any problems like this.

Things are much better today. After talking with corporate and the nice ladies in the office things worked out. No more letters. And the remodel is going well.

I’ve lived here for 2 years and have a 3 BR apt. When I first moved here the staff was friendly, responsive I couldn’t have asked for more. Then there was a change in management, and the big remodel. I really need to be here because my kids did/​do attend the high school and I can keep my animals here. So I decided to stay, and was told I would be able to move to another 3 BR apt. So, the 3 BR wasn’t ready and I had to move into a 1 BR until it was ready. They gave me all of a $ 500 credit in spite of the fact that I had to move twice instead of once. Of course after the remodel, the rent was jacked up significantly. I do like the remodeled apt much better than the previous. These apts seem to be under a contract with a company who brings a lot of Indians here, so there is a very large # of Indian tenants. The men wander around the complex late at night talking on their cell phones, and it’s creepy. What really burned my butt is recently they lost both my rent and utilities checks. Instead of asking me about it, they posted a notice on my door telling me to pay up or move out. When I called them about the mistake, I was treated like a low life, although nothing like that had happened before. It turned out the checks were sent to the main office. I never got an apology from the manager that they had f****d up. ONE gal in the office apologized for everything I had gone through, but the manager whose name was on the notice? Crickets. I’m going to stay another year, but although the property and the apartments are nice, the manager and management company are completely disrespectful.

We just moved in a few weeks ago and so far every interaction with the staff has been great. Everyone was very nice and helpful throughout the process (JoAnne was our leasing agent). Haven’t lived here too long yet, but the interior of the refinished places is quite nice, and so far all the neighbors seem friendly! The leasing process could use a little bit of digital love (a lot of paperwork), but I’m sure that’s on the list of improvements alongside the physical changes.

I moved here in December 2012 knowing that I would have to eventually have to move because they would remodel the place. My first few months were great here, the staff was really nice and helpful. Over the short time that I’ve been here, there is not any of the original staff. This new staff is not professional! Starting with the maintenance team, they look like they don’t know what they are doing at all. I’ve had the same issue with water leaking in my bedroom 3 times and it still needs to be fixed.
The new manager doesn’t seem to know what is going on and who she is supposed to see. She wasn’t aware I had an appointment with her to discuss the many issues I have with them. She tried to tell me that whatever I’ve been told by the maintenance manager, Rich, is probably not true because he no longer works for them.
The complex is always dirty. People do not pick up after themselves. There’s always cigarette butts and discarded packs. I came to my parking spot to find a dirty diaper and a man’s underwear in my spot. This is totally unacceptable when you pay $ 1900 for rent.
They raised the price in the laundry room, for what, I don’t know, because the laundry room is always dirty and so are the machines.
They gave me a 60 day notice 3 days after I told them I was leaving for a month abroad. They left the notice on my door and sent me a letter. I told 2 people in the office and no one thought about letting me know then that I’d have to move in 60 days. I’m in my last 30 days here and I’ve been told that if I find another place before the 31^st, I will not be able to be reimbursed for the days I won’t live here.
So here I am, a widow with a 2 year old daughter, during the worst time for us, the holidays, having to move, trying to figure out how to pay for 2 apartments at once.
I wouldn’t move here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
