Seriously – How can you not love a place with this name? The folks were mostly outgoing and helpful.(Besides the guy who talked on his cell a lot rather than assisting new tasters…) Texas wine country is off to a great start with wineries like this blazing the path. The wine was good too.

Stopped in because of the name. It has a great atmosphere, but they have extremely small tastings. You get 5 choices for $ 10, but you only get about two sips per wine. I would rather pay a couple of dollars more for a little more wine.

The wines here are super sweet and sugary. I did not enjoy any of them. Giving them 2 stars because of the name, adorable outdoor patio, and friendly staff.

My dad wanted to stop in. Hesitant we didn’t want to but did because we figured what do we have to loose with a place called fat ass? This winery ended up being the most fun one on 290. Definitely a Texas sight. Band playing on the patio, food truck. They also do frozen wine! We had their peach wine! Don’t knock it till you try it. Actually was really good– not too sweet– peach is the fruit of Fredericksburg! Admittedly, maybe not the fanciest wine on 290. But their laid back atmosphere, friendly staff will make you wanna linger! Pro tip: drive a little farther down the road past the estates and there’s a real donkey

This place is such a nice escape from the typical wineries that want so badly to be Napa. The atmosphere is very much on par with a laid back Austin beer patio or a Houston brewery. They have fun marketing(I bought a hat) a fun atmosphere and killer frozen sangria. But seriously…$ 10 for a 6 oz cup? We’d have stayed longer if prices were more reasonable. That’s my only complaint — though I understand it takes money to run a business. We’ll be back next time and I’m wearing this hat daily.

Nice winery, pretty patio area(and on the weekend they have music), and also ONLY on the weekend they have a frozen wine concoction that is good for TX hot weather. We came for one of the frozen drinks, but is Friday they didn’t have it so we ordered a Cabernet and a sweet red… Let’s just said that I wish I had just left when they said they didn’t have the frozen drink. Conclusion frozen drink good, wine not so much($ 8 a glass).

Damn this place is absolutely fabulous!!! Excellent setting! Outdoor band, horse shoe game, dance floor, a frekkin ranch yo. Inside was happening with the whole wine thing. Fabulous bartenders. Julie was our girl!!! Love you boo! She helped me get another item checked off the bachelorette scavenger hunt!!! Lol!!! Their peach wine is delicious!!! I bought a shot glass as well that comes w a free shot and another shot glass!!! Score!!! I gave away the shot but kept the glass. You also get to keep the fat ass ranch wine glass you use!!! Score! I will certainly be back here next time!!! And get my drink on!!! Lol!!! Go!!!

Not my favorite winery in the area but they try hard to please with t-shirts, gifts, and gizmos. But the wine? It’s not that great. I have been a wine drinker since my first sip of Thunderbird. Oh, okay. I’m not an expert as you can see so you might enjoy their vinos more than I did. It’s definitely worth a stop because it’s very Texas kitsch with employees who are high energy and entertaining. During the peach season they produce a tasty Peach Wine if you like sweet wines.

I was disappointed by the wine, but not the service — here’s why: We visited six or seven wineries and vineyards over the weekend, and it seems that Fat Ass is more about the fun and the tourism than producing high-quality wine. We tried six wines for $ 10 per person, the typical rate at most stops along Highway 290. The staff were fun and friendly; it felt like they had joy as their number one goal. The first was a seasonal — I believe Christmas — sweet cranberry wine wine. The next five were a myriad of white and red wines. Of the six, we liked only one, the Dry White. They labeled their wine not by grape but by character, which was odd. For example, you wouldn’t see Cabernet-Sauvignon, but you’d see Bold Red. Another one of the reasons I feel it catered more to wino culture as opposed to oenophiles was how much merchandise was there — it took up more room than the wine itself. There were shirts, shot glasses, and all kinds of things that aren’t related to wine consumption. Stop here on your wine tour for some good outdoor music and drunkenness. If you seek high-brow, venture elsewhere.

My wife’s 21 year old cousin was in town for Thanksgiving and she wanted to take him on his first wine tasting tour. We hit Fat Ass winery strictly for the name and the funny glassware. That’s about as good as it got. The tasting room is super-duper loud and the staff seemed very rushed. Our server would barely tell us anything other than the name of the wine and seemed in a super hurry to get us through the tasting and out the door. We will not be going back. Skip this place and head to William and Chris or Hilmy if you’re in the neighborhood.

This place is like the millennial kid sister of the older, less hip and more established wineries on Wine Route 290. If you’re hankering for a shot of wine, a mildly offensive t-shit, or an INCREDIBLYOFFENSIVE $ 10 taco, Fat Ass Ranch & Wineries will help you out. My mom, sister and I stopped here as the second winery on our tour after checking out Becker’s across the street. Our young hostess from our dinner the night before had recommended it to us, but other than its fun name, we really had nothing to guide us. We were able to figure out how to pay and got a corner of the bar, where C announced that it was her birthday, and was treated to a complimentary shot of wine. Overall, the wines were syrupy and not very distinctive from one another. If you’re looking for a dessert wine, try the peach wine. This place has a fun atmosphere but unfortunately sweet wines. Go if you enjoy sugary booze or have already knackered your taste buds from a hard afternoon’s work of day drinking.

My boyfriend and I loved our experience here! The décor is country vintage and very inviting. I love all the repurposed farm machinery and truck tail gate benches. The wine… is amazing. Each one was better than the next! I highly recommend the Sweet Red and the Sweet White, which is crazy because I normally like dry wines. But believe me, you will love these. The service was also awesome. Our server was very knowledgable and friendly. This is a must stop if you’re visiting Fredricksburg.

The is one Fat Ass winery. It was my favorite venue in the area. Not only b/c the name and swag was so cool, but their wines are AMAZING. I got several and love them all. They are super reasonable and soooo good. I heart their cute wine glass that comes with the tasting, too. I’m only kicking myself now b/c I didn’t buy a hat.

LOVED this winery. The employees here were so kind, knowledgeable, and fun. The feel of this space was cool, really vibrant and chipper. A fun take on the usual vibes of a winery.(Just look at the name?) If you come here expecting something swank, you’re gonna be disappointed. The bottles have the name of the winery on them, c’mon. So, my favorite wine here was definitely their house peach. Incredibly sweet, but somehow light and crisp all the same. Totally Texas summer, would be nice to have with a light meal on a hot day with pals. Something else I thought was fun was that they offered frozen wine-ritas, both white and red(or swirled). The white wine-rita is based with their 12% peach wine, which is the one I tried. For $ 10.75 you get one of these lil frozen drinks — and they’re totally worth it. Following our tasting, we went and sat outside in the patio area which is covered and has a sort of retro feel to it. I’m pretty sure their bathrooms are outdoor though, so take that into account if you’re hopping between wineries.

Let’s be honest. We all came here to buy a bottle that says FATASS on it. We didn’t come here for the wine, which tastes like Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers at best. If you just turned 21 or you’re having a bachelorette party and you want something that tastes like a Jolly Rancher with a buzz you’ll probably like this better than we did. The peach wine was decent enough to buy a bottle, and the frozen sangria slushie is refreshing on a hot day, but the tasting experience is sub-par. I felt like the kid behind the counter wanted to pour our samples as quickly as possible to get us out of the way to make room for more young pretty girls that he could hit on. The oldies band on the patio was pretty good. I would have bought a T-shirt but they didn’t have anyone working the register in the gift shop. Oh well.

This was the last stop of our winery tour, so we were a little sloshed at this point. 12 girls come stumbling in and they welcome us with open arms, they specialize in more fruit based wines here… they serve them chilled and they taste quite refreshing. I enjoyed the peach and watermelon combo and bought a bottle of each… you can also put fresh fruit in it, serve chilled… perfect on a warm summer night! I also loved their merchandise so had to get some t-shirts for me and the honey. The owner was so nice, came out and said hi to us and talked to us and gave us a free bottle to drink while we relaxed out front! I would recommend this and come back here when I do another wine tasting adventure.

What a sweet little olé place! The Unilocal page said it was closed on Mondays but driving by, Hubby thought they looked open. I called the number and got a good olé country drawl saying«This is Gail McCulloch.» I thought I’d called the wrong number but then he mentioned that he was indeed the Head Fat Ass and I knew we were gonna hit it off. As it turns out they are now open Thurs thru Mon so we turned around and went back. This place has Texas Quaint in spades. So many cute things to look at, sculptures, quirky furniture, and gifts, almost all of which are made by Gail’s wife Jennie and her welder sister. Hubby could not get enough of the benches with the old truck tailgates as the backings. We even got pix in the sawed off back end of an old bus. We bought hats, shot glasses and even a wine cooler made of cowhide, all with the Fat Ass logo. So presh! Anyway, unfortunately I was not a huge fan of the wines as they are all on the sweet side. Our wine assistant, Tansy(yes, Tansy), was amazingly friendly and enthusiastic about the wines and the personal history of the place but she swears their biggest seller is the Peach Wine. Yes it was very peachy and ultra sweet and I would have snatched up a bottle if I was a desserty kind of person. It would go great on ice cream! As it is, we did still grab a bottle of the«dry» red and a bottle of semi-sweet white for my wine novice boss(all bottles are $ 16, I believe). Next time I’m in the area, I’ll grab a picnic and just hang here. Maybe Tansy or some a dem other nice folks will join us! Ya’ll come back now, ya hear?
