History

Established in 1925.

Drury’s, originally called Fountain Furniture Company, started as a modest partnership in 1925. Twenty year old, Reuben Drury was sent by his boss to open a furniture store in Fountain. Their original building was 25’X 75′ and is still in use today.

Reuben Drury bought out his partner in 1926 and changed the name to R.C. Drury Furniture. Joined by his wife, Gladys «Toots» Drury, they ran the business, slowly built a clientele, and weathered the great depression. In 1954 a «modern» addition was put on the side of the original building adding another 2,500 square feet of display area. By the mid-1950’s Reuben and Toots had two other employees. In 1957 their son David joined the company. In 1967, David’s wife, Ora Mae opened Drury’s Custom Drapery Studio, which she operated until her death in 2009.

Both third and fourth generation family members are now involved in the day-to-day operations of Drury’s Furniture, continuing in the tradition started by Reuben and Toots in the 1920’s.
