Your search for the best surgeon stops here! I had 3 boys back to back by c-​section, and my poor tummy was destroyed. I had diastasis recti (ab seperation), an umbilical hernia, horrible stretch marks, saggy loose skin, and a pooch that would never go away. I had lost about 80lbs after having my last baby, which made my tummy situation even worse.
I began searching for a surgeon that I could trust to do a tummy tuck. I needed everything tightened up, sliced off, and sewn back up ;). but there were SO many surgeons and I couldn’t figure out who to trust to fix my soggy tummy.
I made an appointment/​consultation with Dr Beck’s office. Everyone was so professional and welcoming. I felt so comfortable there. Dr Beck had also done a tummy tuck on his assistant, so she showed hers and allowrd me to ask questions about the process! She answered every single question honestly, and had so much background information to provide regarding Dr. Beck. She also invited me to come in again with my husband. This really sealed the deal for me.
The day of my surgery, I felt GREAT! They had thoroughly prepared me for surgery day so I had NO worries.
The results of my tummy tuck??? AMAZING. I love it. My husband loves it! :)

Picking a plastic surgeon and a master injector is quite honestly not an easy task to do… so many out there. So many to choose from. I had unfortunately had a very tragic event occur in my life that affected my outward self esteem very much… I aged very, very quickly and my appearance specifically my face changed very dramatically.
I feel very blessed to have found a very talented, kind and extremely experienced doctor with over 20 years plus experience in the medical aesthetics field. His name is Dr. Keith Matsuoka and his part time practice is now located in this office.
My self esteem has improved immensely because of the work that we have been doing since last year. I am very excited about my upcoming upper and lower eye lift! next month. Thank you very much Dr. Matsuoka…

Did not see the doctor but the receptionist didn’t listen to any of my requests and would ask me for «Botox» when I never even brought up Botox. I made it clear and simple what my demands were.

My consultation appointment has been rescheduled twice. I’m very disappointed but what can you do.

I remember the first time I met Dr Joel Beck. He was modest, soft-​spoken and looked at me first with compassion and then — because I had experienced other cosmetic procedures — as if I were a Post-​Modern Art Form. His manner was professional and courteous; then as it remains after three procedures performed in the past five years.
I should point out I am a transgender woman (age 65) who had what is commonly called «facial feminization surgery (FFS) in 2004 at the hands of a different surgeon, I’m no stranger to the procedures or the challenges of aesthetic surgery and choosing Dr. Beck came after some in-​depth research. This «pre-​screening» was followed up upon during our first encounter. I was not disappointed. His staff — his team — is competent and capable, particularly Jasmine and Melissa. I can safely say I would not have been able to achieve my goals without their patience, compassion and concern.
The first procedure with Dr. Beck was to remove excess fat from my flanks using «smart lipo» — a relatively common procedure which caused discomfort, but little pain. I was back to work within days and the results allowed me to wear clothing that showed off my figure in an entirely different light — clothing I possessed, yet didn’t dare wear were now put to good use. I couldn’t have been happier with the result at the hands of Dr. Beck.
The second procedure was a CO2 Laser treatment, designed to to encourage the production of youthful collagen under the skin. The first couple of days were traumatic, but the following week, as I healed, there were obvious improvements. The benefits of this procedure have been long-​lasting. My fair skin has never looked better. it remains elastic — soft, supple, free of freckles and age spots.
My most recent procedure was performed three months ago in January, 2015, just before my 65^th Birthday. Having had a brow-​lift, brow-​bone contouring, cheek implants and fat grafted to my lips a decade earlier by another surgeon, I was prepared to once again go under the knife — for a neck and lower facelift — this time under the capable hands of Dr. Beck. Prior to the being «put-​under» for the 5.5 hour procedure, I spoke with Dr. Beck and told him to do his «best work.» «Do not second yourself.» I’ll be happy — not just happy but elated — with the outcome. I’d chosen him specifically to perform this surgery and that I had «every confidence in his skills and abilities. Had I any doubt, I assured him we’d not be having this conversation.
After I awoke from the procedure, Dr. Beck came to speak with me. He was tired, but the look on his face told me all I needed to know. The procedure was successful and he was proud of his work.
I’m glad to report, despite the pain and aftermath of the anesthesia, there was no bruising — none — which is virtually unheard-​of. With the exception of one — from a 1» suture hidden under my chin — there are no visible scars — not in front of nor behind my ears. And while I still have some discomfort and numbness, it subsides incrementally every day. Healing is a «process» and has no timetable or expiration date.
I was off of work for several weeks, which considering my age, is warranted. I am, after all, «retired» and the work I do is at this point in life is «optional.» Occasionally, I appear in an independent film or commercial — usually as someone perceived to be a few years younger. And when I go out on the town, it’s rare that I’m not complimented on my appearance. Sometimes I get studied by others who. like myself, have undergone various «procedures». I recognize that «knowing look“and often nod and/​or smile to acknowledge their understanding gaze.
In summary, I can’t give a higher endorsement of Dr. Beck and his remarkable team of professionals. They treat me like a RockStar. All I can say is, «it takes one to know one.»

I am a 35 year old mother of 2. I first met with Dr. Beck in 2013, and we explored options for removing some excess fat; he told me I was a good candidate for Smart Lipo and that the recovery would be nominal (down time of 4 days) and that I would see results quickly, 80% within 6 – 8 months and 100% at a year. In October of 2013, he performed the procedure in 2 sessions on 6 areas: upper abdomen, lower abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, outer thighs and lower back. There were issues from procedure day forward. I have waited this long to write the review because I wanted to allow ample time for healing and final results.
Pre-​op, I was given a Post-​Op instruction paper that was half a page long and didn’t address many standard issues that arose, and I had to do online research and keep calling his office for info that should have been included in the instructions (as a comparison, a colleague of mine had Smart Lipo in one area and received a 5 page Post-​Op instructions from his physician). The next issue was the pain. Dr. Beck did not offer anesthesia as an option and said there would be minimal discomfort during the procedure and that the standard painkillers would be sufficient (pill and local injection, if I recall). I have a pretty high pain threshold and I have to tell you that the procedure was excruciatingly painful, both sessions. I cried so much that I was congested. Again, in comparison, I went to another surgeon (Dr. Hoffman in Palo Alto) for a special post-​op laser treatment that wasn’t available at Dr. Beck’s office), and they said they always recommend anesthesia for a procedure involving 2 or more areas because pain can be an issue. When I spoke to Dr. Beck about the level of pain in a follow up appt, he said that they weren’t equipped to offer anesthesia at that time and he didn’t think it would be necessary. The recovery time and level of discomfort was also much more prolonged and intense than what I was told it would be. There were complications with the upper abdomen that have never resolved, and besides outer thighs, I haven’t noticed a difference, but was hoping it was because I had gotten used to the changes. I went in today to take final pictures (17 months after) and compared pre and post pics with Dr. Beck side by side. The only area with a noticeable change is outer thighs and the low abdomen BUT his abdominal incisions were high (well above the bikini line) and one of the scars is very noticeable in a bikini. When I asked why he didn’t make the incisions lower so that they could be hidden, he said that the equipment he was using at the time wouldn’t allow him to get the upper abdomen with lower incisions and that he has since gotten new equipment that does allow for it. My upper abdomen protrudes more than it did pre-​op because of scar tissue and the other areas look no better than they did pre-​op. I exercise much more now and my diet is good, so it is not because I have gained weight back. I expressed my disappointment to Dr. Beck today and he has offered no solution. To pay nearly 10k and go through the pain and a much longer, more painful recovery than described with nearly no result is beyond upsetting. I highly encourage you to go somewhere else.

If you’re questioning whether or not Dr. Beck should be your surgeon, question no further… the answer is YES!!!
I got a procedure done here a few months back and couldn’t be happier with my results! Dr. Beck is such a nice, honest, warm person who made me feel comfortable right from the beginning! He also came in on his day off (Saturday) for a follow up appointment to accommodate my schedule!

There are a lot of plastic surgeons in the San Francisco Bay Area who are more famous and more expensive — but if you are looking for a superb surgeon, with incredible talents, then you can’t do better with Dr. Joel Beck.
I originally had a consultation with other surgeons, but cancelled after reading Dr. Joel Beck’s Unilocal reviews + recommendation from a fellow surgeon Dr. Marci Bowers. Best decision ever. He and the whole team are warm, intelligent, helpful, and a pleasure to be around. I got a breast augmentation and have received numerous compliments on how natural they look. I highly recommend Dr. Joel Beck!

It’s been a little over a year since Dr. Beck performed surgery on me and I am still bragging on him (and his staff).

I am almost two weeks post op and am so happy with the outcome of my breast augmentation. I had silicone breast implants in 1988, the type that was outlawed shortly after. I had no problems until recently and chose Dr. Beck over every other surgeon in the area because I had seen a a lot of his previous work on friends and family.
One of my implants had migrated up, ruptured and leaked the outlawed silicone into my chest. Dr. beck not only fixed the mess that had been created in my body from my old implants, he gave me the exact look I wanted with my new implants, the exact size and shape. I am so happy, and healthy, so glad I trusted my instincts and chose the right surgeon to fix my problem. I would give him many more stars if I could.
Also, the surgery itself was a piece of cake for me, I literally shut my eyes, didn’t even know I had the anesthesia in yet, opened them what seemed like a minute later and it was all over :) and I was so nervous on the way to the appointment. They took excellent care of me. I’m so grateful.

After loosing 100 pounds during the last year, working hard and eating smart, I had a 360 Circumferential Body Lift performed by Dr. Beck about a month ago. The surgery went great, I’m still healing, but I can already tell the results are amazing! (I fit in my prom dress that I wore 21 years ago!)
During our initial meeting, he listened to what I wanted to achieve, shared valuable input and made me feel really comfortable with the process. After meeting with 3 other surgeons before the surgery, I picked Dr. Beck and I am very happy with my choice.

I absolutely love my results. It’s just been a little over two weeks since I had the smart lipo procedure on my lower abdomen.
I’m one of those women that no matter what I did at the gym, that particular area simply would not flatten or go away. Even juiced for 10 days– energy was through the roof but that ‘pouch’ was still there like a jelly doughnut.
Yes, it’s that stubborn, unattractive area that most women will experience with age. It wasn’t necessarily out of pure vanity, as it was feeling comfortable and attractive in my clothing.
So, after thinking about it for two years, I decided to take the plunge and just do it!
It’s probably the best decision I made to what I call ‘Appearance Maintenance’ aside from the routine facials and mani-​pedis and the results reflect it.
Not only is Dr. Beck a reputable and EXCELLENT plastic surgeon but genuinely a really nice guy with a great staff working for him. Everyone I encountered was pleasant, professional, and overall a really positive experience for me.
Each passing day the results continue to improve and cant wait to the day I can discard (better yet burn… lol) that compression garment. Yes, you will need to wear that compression for a month everyday to achieve the best results. It’s really a good thing, you just have to allocate a little more time in the morning to get ready is all.

I just had my 2 week follow up with Dr. Joel Beck today for my breast augmentation. Being transgender, and on hormones I had very small breasts. Dr. Beck’s work is simply amazing, I am extremely pleased with my results, they’re natural, and the perfect size taking into consideration my chest size.
I’ve had my fair share of surgeons, one thing that stands out about Dr. Beck is his wonderful bedside manner, he’s kind, and compassionate, and takes the time to really go over whats best for the patient, and he kept me in the loop all along the way. I’m giving Dr. Beck 5 stars because from the second I walked in his door, he’s been nothing but helpful and kind to me, my results are fantastic, and I look forward to my followups with him. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for some work done, especially transgender patients.

Up until a couple weeks ago, my biggest beauty splurge was getting my eyebrows waxed. I went to BAAS for my very first Botox treatment and could not be happier. In and out, super sweet staff, and the procedure was painless and results perfect. It was just the right amount in my forehead. Looks completely natural.
They answered all my questions and instead of pushing services on me, actually walked me (yes, walked me) upstairs to the esthetician to schedule a regular facial.
I live in Oakland, but I’ll definitely be using them in the future, as well as recommending them to all my friends.
