I’ll say first that my experience with the tech and his service ended well. However, there were some bumps along the way.
1) Lynn’s return phone call to schedule an appointment turned out to be 3 phone calls because she didn’t gather all the information she needed.
2) After requesting the 11am-​1pm time slot, I got a call from April at 10am telling me the tech was 5 min away. After rushing home from work, 25 minutes away, I apologized that the tech had to wait, at which point the tech said he just got there.
3) The tech diagnosed the problem easily and said he found the part at a local supply house. Since the part was under warranty, I would only pay the cost of the installation. When I asked what the cost of installation was, he said I would have to call the office. A call to April did not result in a quote, only what the tech had already told me and she would have to call back. I gave the tech my garage door code so I could return to work.
4) When April called back, the price I received was almost twice what I had been quoted by others who could not return as quickly, $ 239. I watched the tech remove the part. It took less than 10 minutes. When April said the tech had already gone to get the part and was returning to replace it, I felt like I was trapped. Either pay the outrageous installation cost or we’ll have him stop, turn around and return the part, and (parenthetically) charge a service call. Trying to soften the blow, she said I better be glad I didn’t have to pay $ 900 for the replacement part. (It didn’t help)
Bottom Line: While I understand time and travel are worth something, the supply house was within a 30 minute drive, there and back, and the ease of removal and installation didn’t justify the hefty price tag compared to other quotes. Plus, no time lost due to timing of my arrival and the tech’s.
Advice: Don’t allow any work without a quote, preferably in writing.

Service tech Asa was very helpful, thorough, and timely. He explained what he was doing and was very helpful in making recommendations on optimizing our system.
