JK’s Dumpling & Teriyaki

It is sad that this restaurant had to close, but makes sense. I ordered here when I was starving and it was the only place open on Grubhub. It’s not bad, but the chicken teriyaki and noodles are drenched in so much oil that it ends up tasting too slick and slimy.
The dumplings were okay, but nothing that you would remember as noteworthy. Definitely could do much better.

You have the most delicious dumpling soup ever!!! I have to tell you that you chicken is also so tasty and juicy… Everything I ate was filled with flavor and it didn’t need anything to spice it up either. It all went in my belly…

Great Dumplings! Chicken Teriyaki was okay

The food is not bad, but if you ask for extra sauce, or ask exacting what is in the item, she ignores you and walks to the back. The first time it happened, I though well maybe she had a bad day and left it at that. When I placed and order and came to pick it up today, the Manchurian monster appeared again. The food I picked up this time was passable. I guess others don’t want to put up with such disrespect.

Food Is Disgusting, Greasy, And Bland… I Ordered The Teriyaki Chicken Lunch Special. I Couldn’t Stop Wondering If It Was Chicken Or Not. Poor Quality Food!

Not worth your money. Even though they serve large portions — it is not worth it. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, Shrimp Dumplings, Pork & Chive Dumplings, and Pork & Chive Wonton Soup. The Chicken Teriyaki was too oily, the Shrimp Dumplings unimpressive, and the Pork & Chive Dumplings/​Wonton Soup had a horrible aftertaste.

Alright. really just alright.
I got delivery, ordered Chicken and Mushroom dumplings, Shrimp Dumplings and Scallion Pancakes. i think they should give you two mini-​gyoza sauces instead of that tiny container you get and have to figure out portioning for 10 Dumplings. The pancake came with a good hot sauce but it was a little dry, this too needed gyoza sauce!!! My Shrimp Dumplings were a little. uhh toasted. My friend recommended this place only because it delivered and while this was alright, I should’ve picked up something else.

Fast food. Lol lets get that out the way. This is not a place where you come to sit and eat. You just pick up and leave here.

The lady at the register takes orders, cooks, cleans, and checks out you.
The handmade dumplings here are not bad. I order the chicken/​mushroom fried dumplings. The whole flavor is in this soy sauce she gives with it, not sure what the sauce consists of, but it goes well.
For 5 dollars 8 – 10 dumplings is not a bad deal, considering she makes them herself.
So if you are around and hungry why not give it a shot

I used to buy the wonton dumplings from them when they first opened. Then I saw the cook who handmade the dumplings also took your order and handled cash. When a customer walked in while he was busy kneading the dough or making dumplings, he would dust his hands off, took your cash, then grabbed the dumplings from the freezer and cooked them… Then without cleaning his hands, he would go back to making dumplings.
I passed my feedback to them early on, and the cooks did wear plastic gloves for a while. Soon after, the business must have changed hands, with limited staff, the new people would handle everything with bare hands — knead the dough, collect cash, grab frozen dumplings from the freezer … repeat… So they are kneading the billions of bacteria from money right into your dumplings and down your stomach. It is very disgusting! I never buy from them again!
When will somebody report them to the health authorities, let them spot check on them and catch them on the spot handling cash while handling food with bare hands, and give them a decent fine? Is there a regulation which prohibits handling food and money at the same time without cleaning hands after handing cash?

I ordered 10 Pork dumplings for $ 5, pretty cheap. Everything here is made to order and the girl was rolling dumplings behind the counter when I arrived. During my visit there were 2 people dining in, 2 people working behind the counter, and I felt like it was really cramped in there with 5 people. This isn’t really a place you can dine in, they do have 2 barstools and a ledge if you do decide to dine in but it is a small space so I wouldn’t suggest it. The dumplings were good, my only complaint (which is a major complaint) is that it was SOOO greasy! I know I asked for fried dumplings, but GODDAMN. Every bite I took I had oil gushing out of my dumpling. I should’ve just asked for them steamed, maybe next time.

Steamed pork & chive dumplings, filling quite tasty, dipping sauce was one note: sour.
Beef Kung Fu Noodle soup, hand-​tossed noodles were very nice, beef chunks were tough & bland, broth also needed more seasonings and a lot less oil on the surface.
The place got a lot of potential — hopefully they pay attention to reviews and make some improvements.

Located in downtown Fort Lee, JK’s Dumpling & Teriyaki is a hole-​in-​the-​wall takeout spot nestled snugly between Washington Bridge Plaza mainstays Subway and U Like. As its name suggests, the small operation offers a variety of Chinese style dumplings in addition to several teriyaki, noodle and soup dishes.
While there is a narrow counter and a single, lonely chair available for anyone who wishes to dine-​in, this is clearly a takeout operation at heart and you’re far more likely to see a customer biting into a hot dumpling while sitting in their car in the plaza lot over sticking around inside after receiving their food.
Just about everything on the menu is made to order, so there is typically a wait time of 10 – 15 minutes depending on how busy they are, but you can always call in your order ahead of time and local delivery is available. You can even sometimes catch a glimpse of the staff filling fresh dumplings or pulling noodles by hand while your food is being prepared.
My biggest criticism about JK’s Dumpling & Teriyaki is that within the 18 months or so they’ve been open, the menu has been completely revamped three or four times. While I understand a new business tinkering with their menu or having rotating/​seasonal offerings, JK’s has removed specials and entire dishes since their early 2013 launch. Reviews from fellow Unilocalers also indicate that some dishes may have had their recipes altered as well.
For instance, boiled vegetable dumplings and mixed vegetable noodles were previously offered at JK’s as vegetarian options. Both are missing from the latest version of their menu as of October ’14 and the fried green onion pancake (served greasy w. a side of generic hot sauce) is the only vegetarian dish available.
Customers can’t really have a «usual» or favorite go-​to menu item if there’s no guarantee it will taste the same (or even be available) on their next visit. When I think about my favorite places to order takeout, consistency is one of the most important factors.
In regards to food quality, it’s decent for the price you pay. The dumplings being fresh and handmade is a definite plus, but the thick dough wrapping tends to overpower the subtly seasoned filling. The homemade noodles are also prepared well, despite the noodle dishes as a whole being a bit underwhelming.
Overall, I hope this business does well and finds their niche within Fort Lee foodie culture. However, with so many readily available fast food, takeout and quick-​casual options within walking distance, it definitely is an uphill battle for a «not bad» eatery to stay relevant and more importantly, afloat.

Dont be fooled by the name! JK is not one of those Chinese fast food places or the Americanized sweet Teriyaki place. The food at JK is authentic and homemade! It’s a rare find for New Jersey residents! It’s as good as it gets.
I love to buy a few of their pancakes and put them in freezer. I simply toast them and put scramble eggs between layers. They are delicious and perfect for weekend brunch!

After much curiosity about it, I finally got to try the this place a couple of weeks ago. Consider my review 2.75 stars. The dumplings were good, but the other facets of the business are lackluster.
I ordered veggie dumplings, they came with a tangy side of sauce that I thought could never be enough for 10 dumplings, but the little bit went a long way. The dumplings themselves were good, you could tell they were homemade.
The downside is there’s no seating so you have to take everything to go. There was no AC and the food took about 5 or so minutes to make, I ended up waiting outside because the store felt like a furnace.
Definitely not a veg-​friendly place as one of only two options (veggie lo mein or something similar) had been crossed off the menu. I also asked if I could have the dumplings pan fried, and the woman said no, they had to be steamed. Okay then.
I complimented the checkout lady, saying her apron was cute (it was a frilly pink hello kitty apron) and she gave me a weird look. Maybe she didn’t understand? Needless to say, the service isn’t amazing.
Try this spot out if you’re in the mood for takeout dumplings at a good price. Otherwise, this place not a stellar find.

*This update is only toward to the Dan Dan noodle.
Sadly, the only reason draws me here doe not exist anymore,
I came here yesterday and they told me they have changed the recipe of the DanDan noodle to make it more «authentic».
I bought one home and ate… urghhh. don’t know what were they thinking while considering changing their recipe,
but the new receipe is not working at all.
It was «not authentic but tasty «, but now, it is «not authentic and bad «.
The sauce becomes really bland, the only flavor I can taste from the minced pork sauce is just salty. There is no other favor in that sauce, not even spicy (how can you call it a Dan dan noodle while there is not spicy at all?), this is just a full bowl of disappointment.
Hope they will change the recipe back to the original one, before then, I don’t think I will ever order Dan-​Dan noodle again.

I love dumplings and I love teriyaki.
Unfortunately this places misses the mark in a few areas especially in the dishes they are named for.
I like the concept of this place since there aren’t any sarku/​teriyaki places in the area and people love dumplings. I’ll only speak of the food that I’ve had there.
1) Dumplings — I like the variety but I wish they would use a little less dough. The dough is too thick so it takes away from the flavor of the meat. You end up only tasting the dough. The soup dumplings definitely need more soup in them as the ones I ordered barely had any. The other dumplings suffer from the same dough problem but I have yet to try to pork and chive dumplings which appear to be different shape and texture. It would also help a great deal if the cups of dipping sauce (hot/​soy) were bigger and wider where you could dip your dumplings into the cup. It is impossible to fit the dumpling into the cup.
2) Chicken Teriyaki — The chicken teriyaki is fine here. My complaint with the dish lies with the «fried rice» that comes with it. It is not fried rice. It is just white rice with a few frozen vegetables and eggs scattered in it. I don’t even think they use any soy sauce in their fried rice. I wish they would make the fried rice to order but they scoop it out of a giant rice cooker which leads me to believe the rice isn’t even fried. I haven’t tried it with the noodles but maybe that’s the way to go.
3) Dan Dan Noodles — I was extremely disappointed with this dish. Not only did it look completely different from the pictures they had posted up but it just didn’t have any flavor to it. Authentic dan dan noodles should consist of just chili oil, peppers, scallions and minced chicken/​pork. But the one they gave had barely any chicken and mixed in random vegetables which honestly, I wouldn’t have minded if the dish had flavor to it but it was so bland.
Also, the wait-​time for your food is incredibly long. I appreciate that most of the food is made to order but it just seemed to take longer than it should have taken.
Overall, the dishes aren’t the best and the inaccuracy of the descriptions and pictures is incredibly frustrating, but it is a good on-​the-​go place to pick up food so I’ll probably come back once in a while to get my chicken teriyaki fix in.

I really wasnt a fan of this place. I paid $ 5 for fish dumplings. They werent that bad at all – kinda small and nothing special. I also ordered the vegetable noodles, they were basically lo mein noodles with steamed broccoli, mushrooms and peppers. There was also a bit of seaweed. This was gross… there was no flavor… they need to add some sauce or something with it.
NOthing special about this place at all – the place is cheap but the food wasnt all that great.

Good place for quick take out. They recently just added delivery for a minimum of $ 12.
They get busy Friday nights. I tried to call in my order to prevent the wait but all I got was a busy tone. Ordered in store with a wait time of 15 min so not too bad for a busy night.
Fried chicken and mushroom dumplings had good flavor but no crisp on the outside. No seating available so I had to wait till I got home to munch down. Worth it for $ 1.99 for 4 decent sized dumplings.
Chicken teriyaki was good reminded me of Sarku but the sauce was less sweet. I don’t like sweet food so that was in my favor.
Will add them to our take out dinner rotation. Great alternative to Chinese take out.

GOOD DUMPLINGS, NO JOKING!
I’ve been passing by this place for weeks waiting for them to open up and I finally got my chance this past Friday. As it’s name implies the place specializes in:
1)Dumplings
2)Teriyaki
But a quick flip through the menu reassures you that they have more than just that. They also have 2 signature soups, 2 Peking Style Noodle dishes, and 5 «Side» dishes, one of which includes Rainbow Chicken. The good news is that they also have Lunch Combos available until 3:00 PM for those that work in the business district. All of those were priced below $ 8.00 and gave some nice combinations of dumplings, teriyaki, and salad.
For my first time taking out, I decided to stick my toe into the water by getting what brought me there in the first place… The Dumplings!!! They can be boiled or they can be fried, all you have to do is tell me that they are handmade of porky goodness and I am as good as sold. I thought that my review would have been a bit shallow by just reviewing one type of dumpling so I indulged and got the pork dumplings 2 ways.

1 Fried Pork & Chive Dumplings
More than just a head-​to-​head of boiled vs. fried, I wanted to see what kind of quality there was in the delivered product. The owner urged me to get straight home because the dumplings are best eaten fresh. I couldn’t agree more and made sure to break as many yellow lights to avoid all the red lights on the one mile that I was driving home. I usually prefer fried dumplings and there was no difference to changing my preference with these. Their dumpling sauce was not as sweet as I’ve had at most other places and did not taste as if any sugar had been added.
If you’ve read my review of U Like (which sits right next door), then you know that I have been dying for a place that serves decent dumplings. Considering that JK does not offer delivery, I may be inclined to go into U Like and buy a cup of their dumpling sauce. I’m not sure how U Like would feel about that, but I don’t care what they like. I’ll be back to sample more of JK’s Dumplings and inquire if they carry a sweeter dumpling sauce, but that was my only bone to pick with them. I can see myself stopping through there many times on my way from work.
Keep up the good dumplings and get me the sweet sauce that we know you can and you’ll have me as a dunking dumpling customer for life!
