Himmarshee Public House

I’ll admit that I’ve been to Public House more times than I can count before writing my review. Whether it be for late night snack, watch the game on their many TV’s, pre-​game before bar hopping, dinner with friends, or Sunday brunch… Public House does not disappoint on all fronts. While it may look like your average corner bar, they have FANTASTIC food! I recently had their Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and they definitely met my foodie fantasy! The cheesy dipping sauce was a perfect pairing and they tasted exactly how I imagined it. I’ve also had their Turkey & Brie sandwich, Eggs Benedict at brunch, and by far the most memorable… the Nutella empanadas! YUM! Every time I visit I get something new and have yet to be disappointed. Public House has a huge center bar with so many different types of beer on draft there’s surely something for everyone! At night time (and the occasional Sunday-​funday) this place does get fairly roudy which is really fun if that’s something you’re into. The staff moves the tables out of the way and become more nightclub than bar with a fantastic DJ. If you’re looking for a great meal, brunch, a place to grab a few drinks, or a fun night out to get a little white girl wasted… Public House is the place to go! There’s so many different experiences one can have in one location, I’m definitely a regular return customer!

In this day and age, anywhere you eat is all about the service. Whether it is wait staff, kitchen, or hostess. I had such high hopes for this place but from the beginning I was left with a bad taste in my mouth.
We arrived around 5:15pm and the hostess was extremely rude and using terms like «baby» instead of «sir» or «m’am». I’m all for terms of endearments, but the manner in which she was using it was just nasty and rude.
We were sat and the waitress was just the opposite. She was nothing but gracious. We ordered appetizers primarily. I had the cheesesteak rolls which were amazing. I also had the Brussels sprouts which sadly weren’t as good. all I had on my plate were leaves and not the core of the sprout. The kitchen did take a while and forgot one of our orders so we had to take the rest of our meal to go. To make it up to us though, they gave us the Nutella empanadas with fresh whipped cream. So good!
Overall this place was good and I would probably come back, but that front of house staff needs to check their attitudes at the door.

So close to Broward performing center– went before the show and we saw Book of Mormon. I was already in a great mood and everything about this experience was awesome.
We got there (3 friends and moi) at 6 and it was happy hour throughout the place — not just at the bar. All drinks 50% off (including top shelf). And at 7 on Thursday ladies drink free (not top shelf brands but still good)
We also were able to get 20% discount with theater tickets before the show so I was already grooving to the vibe.
It’s really a cool bar and they have a decent menu. I had the salmon with double veggies. I didn’t ask for no sauce but there was a lot of sauce on the veggies /​tasty but too much. Our friends had the fried chicken dinner which was very substantial and someone else had a panini with Brie. We were all very happy.
The service was fabulous and our server in particular was wonderful! Would like to go back and try the bar menu. Fun place.

This place use to be a good one to go to. So much fun! But now it’s the last place I’d go to at DT. Employees don’t care about you or what you have to say. I have been pick pocketed twice there and had my money, CC’S and phone taken out of my purse. Employees there have nothing to say about it other then «oh I’m sorry that happened, yea it seems to be a problem happening a lot here lately.» My bank account was cleaned out and had charges on my phone bill adding up to $ 1,400. Every time they have stolen my things there the same thing happens. It’s almost like if it is the same ppl stealing over and over again. Same calls and same charges. I do not want to go there again. And this is sad because public house use to be my favorite bar in downtown fort Lauderdale. Oh and this has also happened to multiple people that I know as well. So it’s not just me, Very disappointed.

Went for their Sunday brunch. They have all you can drink mimosas or bloody Mary’s & they will let you switch between the two which is great as I like to start out with a Bloody Mary and then move on to a mimosa.
I had the bacon, egg and cheese gigantic biscuit. It was pretty good though a bit dry. Some butter on the biscuit would have really helped. A couple friends got the gravy biscuit that didn’t really have much gravy at all. They was expecting it to be smothered in gravy. It too was on the dry side.
I’ll definitely go back but next time I’ll try something different.

Love this place! Great food, awesome service! My man and I frequent here at least once a month, we love that they change around the menu constantly so there is always something new to look forward too. My favorite day to go is Sunday for brunch, always a great energy in there and you can’t go wrong with bottomless mimosas, also the chefs special pancakes which are different every week! This place is a must go if you are in las olas area.

I’ve never been for late night drinks, but I know it goes off with all the other bars on the street.
I went there for breakfast and sunday drinks after the Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon. I would definitely come back, as they turn it into a Sunday funday spot with football on the tv’s and beers and mimosas flowing!
That’s all I need on a Sunday afternoon.

Located in one of the best downtown Fort Lauderdale bar areas; Himmarshee Public House also owns Taco Craft, Rok: Burger, and now the new Pizza Craft all on the same street! Now you know this has gotta be good!
Happy Hour mixes up great deals starting at 4pm until 7pm Monday-​Friday at the Bar Only! 50% Off Everything Behind The Bar! Including Bar Bites of tantalizing Warm Pretzels, Chicken Wings, and delicious Smoked Fish Dip just to name a few items! Their bar is the center focus of the restaurant with a wrap around square bar making behind the bar the main feature!
You will find patio seating along with a lot of high top tables and a lounge like area in the back with a huge projector and plenty of space for a good time! Parking is Everywhere with PaybyPhone and there are a couple of cheaper garages a couple of blocks East! They don’t mess around down there with parking.
Somehow I always miss the opportunity of actually eating a meal here. The couple of items that I have had have been really great bringing in a gourmet touch to the favorite bar food! Everything always looks and smells amazing and one of these days I will actually make it to their awesome Biscuit Brunch!

We always have a great time at the Public House and keep going back for more! It is in the perfect spot for a mini bar hop or a full blown day of debauchery!

Cory the waiter was super attractive however he would not sign our tomato petition so on a 10 scale he drops to a 9.
The atmosphere reminds myself and my date for the night (my babe Penelope) of Atlanta. It’s pub flare but nicely done.
The food was great! We both throughly enjoyed our plates. She had some smothered egg covered cheese and biscuit thing and I had a fried chicken Caesar sandwich on ciabatta bread with fries.
I did like that Cory let me sample all the ale I liked even though I ended up settling on my favorite Blue Moon. Nice place! Oh and bottomless mimosas.
The only thing I didn’t like was that there were no low tables? Unless you had a large party and being a vertically challenged person, it was uncomfortable for me to sit.

Dang they got some good fried chicken all up in this place I had to press Panini sandwich a message to get the fried chicken and it was good and of course her fat ass she wouldn’t share any of it but it was good it was really good. They have a really good check in on you up as well for temperature for 20% off your your whole meal. The server came back and actually gave us a card for 20% off for the entire summer

Good place for brunch. They have a mimosa special and the food is good. I went Saturday morning and it wasn’t very busy, I’m not sure if it’s busier on Sunday. We sat outside because it was a nice day but as the time went by it became hotter outside and the fans they have don’t help much. The waiter was trying to adjust them but it didn’t work. The food was good and so where the drinks.

I went to Public House this past Saturday night with a group of 20 (yes, twenty) girls in celebration of my friend’s bachelorette party. This place has a great vibe, upon arrival we definitely loved the atmosphere and décor, very inviting place to begin a big night out! They sat our massive group against the back wall, right next to/​under the giant projector screen. It was a great spot.
Our waitress was very nice, but poor girl, we were 20 people. She did the best she could, I’d say, she was friendly, offered to split checks (I live in DC, nowhere, ever, would offer to split your check, ESPECIALLY not a group this size, not even a group of 4), and was nice about it all. The only issue we had at this nice resto/​bar was with some of the food. A few of the girls ordered appetizers which came out AFTER the entrees. Like half way through eating your entrée after, so obviously that defeats the point. You don’t need calamari half through your burger! And the other issue I was privy to (legit such a massive, long table, no clue if there were any issues on the other half) was that a few girls ordered a sandwich that comes on ciabatta but the kitchen ran out of ciabatta so they brought it out in plain white bread sans warning. Poor girls were so upset (I get it, the sandwich looked like something you’d make for a 4 yr old lol). We politely complained to our nice waitress and kindly requested that the very-​delayed appetizers be removed from the bill (they sat untouched, we were so full by then), and that the girls who got the sad plain white bread get a lil somethin’. And well, she delivered. She took off the appetizers and gave free drink tix to the girls who had to digest plain bread. The food I had was delicious! I was a lucky one who ordered that sandwich and got the ciabatta bread (lol the looks from the girls who got plain white) and it was very good! I tried my friend’s spicy shrimp, and those were great as well!
After dinner we stayed a little while and danced on their pseudo dancefloor (we blocked the giant projector screen, some peeps weren’t happy). One last witto complaint (no, not really a complaint, just a witto hmm, observation), they had the giant screen on the FSU-​Miami game (honestly, I get it, I do) and the audio for the game playing so that was a witto tiny bummer because the music playing before the game started was awesome. Oh, and we’re all Gator fans and our game was on at the same time so we were sad it was on a smaller TV by the bar. But again, not a complaint! I get it, it’s SoFla, people love their rivalry Florida games! Go Gators! Fun place!

I would give it more like a 2.5 for food. And 3 for service and atmosphere
It’s a loud fun sports bar. I went for brunch and had the fried chicken eggs Benedict.
It was warm and just okay. I didn’t like the biscuit. It was thick and bready and hard. My partner had the egg whites scramble – that was good.
The best part of the meal was the banana empanadas. It comes with a Nutella whip cream that was amazing. Light and chocolatety. Yummy.
I would come back for drinks and maybe a bite because it’s a fun place to hang.

I visited Public House for Sunday brunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Looking at the menu, I was pretty excited to try the food. I started out with their smoking sangria, which was tasty and refreshing. Next, we ordered the warm pretzels to start. The pretzels were soft and warm and came with a delicious gouda and cheddar cheese dipping sauce. For my main course, I opted for lunch instead of brunch and ordered the public house burger. On paper, this burger sounded amazing. However, I was a little bit disappointed as the flavors just weren’t there for me. Another friend in our party also had the burger and added a couple of the extra toppings, but had a similar opinion to mine. The fries that came with the burger was also WAY too salty! I did ask for an extra side of the rosemary aioli that came with it, because there was barely any of it on the burger, but I really enjoyed the sauce and thought it was the star of the dish.
Everyone else’s food looked really good, so maybe I just didn’t order the right thing. I also tried a bit of the nutella empanadas that someone else had ordered, and it was absolutely amazing. This was probably the best thing I ate at brunch. The service was decent considering how packed the restaurant was. I had been to Public House once before and remembered enjoying my food. Hopefully, my choices next time are a little bit better :)

We met a friend here for Brunch on Saturday morning around 11:00am. We had no problem finding metered parking right across the street, which was nice. There were also plenty of open tables.
They had an unlimited mimosas option for $ 15 or you could do individual mimosas for $ 4 each. We were warned that they were small, but we were actually good with going the individual route, as we only had 2.
My husband had the pancakes that change each week. This week they were a peanut butter and chocolate with caramel on top. He said they were really good and filling. I had the southern benedict, which was amazing. I was only able to eat about half and the second half was just as good when I heated it up the next day! My friend had the breakfast flatbread, which was also good and a big portion.
Overall, it was good a atmosphere, good service, and great food!

Public House is like a drunken Alexandria, a veritable gateway to the Silk Road of Questionable Decisions that is Downtown Fort Lauderdale. That being said, it isn’t terribly memorable by itself. A pretty standard bar/​pub right over the tracks from the public parking garage, Public House can be an OK first stop of the night.
One nice thing is the décor. I like the somewhat antique feel, especially the incandescent bulbs over the bar. The tables are solid and it feels somewhat like a traditional bar. Early in the evening this can be a good stop as it is not too crowded, but once this place gets rolling it’s hard to even move. This is due to the tables along almost every side of the bar, creating very narrow walkways. As someone whose stomach is at most people’s elbow height, this can get uncomfortable fast.
The ambience itself seems a little… classier than most of the rest of Downtown. I haven’t witnessed too many knock down drag out idiots here, and you can actually hold a conversation if you want. This is provided you get there early (for the same reason as above).
The bartenders are not too bad. I am not wowed, but at the same time they know basically what they are doing. They rarely forget orders, though on some off nights they can be a little slow. I haven’t had the courage to order an actual cocktail here, I settle for the usual mixed drinks. They usually come out not particularly strong, but not super watered down. Pretty standard fare, really.
Also, they have food which is nice if you need to grab a bite during your trek. However, the menu is understandably basic and most of it is not all that appetizing (to me). I usually just end up ordering fries if I have to grab something here, but truth be told pizza is literally 20 feet down the street, and you have Rokburger and Taco Craft right across the street. I wouldn’t make this my primary food stop.
If you’re looking for an actual public house type place to hang out at that is clean and a little upscale, this is probably your best bet in Downtown. It’s also a solid first stop. If your tastes are more broad, there are much better places in the area, especially later in the evening. However, if you like Tarpon Bend, you may want to give this place a shot.

De-​lish Stop In Himmarshee Hood Of Ft. Lauderdale

My friends Greshka P. and Savannah M. organized fun group dinners for our trip out to Ft. Lauderdale. In this instance, Greshka set up a nice get-​together here at the Himmarshee Public House (HPH) for about 16 of us.
Savanna and her crew joined us for dessert before we all set off for a fun dance-​club crawl.
THE SETUP
Props to the good folks at the HPH for setting up an area in the back dining area that was able to fit our troupe quite nicely. There was plenty of room to sit and table-​space for all of our dining members.
COCKTAILS!
A few of us got there early to check out the place and I started with a refreshing Blueberry Rum concoction. [It’s my new crack, I’ve learned how to make this since I got back home!]

We went all out and tried some great public pub fare HPH. Selections included:

I also had no idea that Coors Lite was running a raffle for the Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale that next week — I won TWO TICKETS! *SCORE SCORE!* Twas a great night at the HPH. But it didn’t there…

THE LOWDOWN
The HPH is a great stop to enjoy some good food and great drinks!

I went to Himmashee public house as a UYE with other Unilocal springbreakers and I’m so glad this was on our stop! The place is a really nice classy sport lounge. You could definitely dress up and not feel weird here. We had two waiters handle our table and they were both really friendly and attentive.
I ordered the mac and cheese appetizer and it had a good flavor but my gosh it was overcooked. It was hard to eat half of the dish because it was stuck to the pan. Other than losing half of my meal to the pan it was a good rich flavor .
I was lucky enough to try the lobster nachos which was really unique. (I personally didn’t want pay $ 15 for just 4 chips but if you are in a treatyoself mood then go for it) The chips were topped with guacamole, jack cheese, cilantro, and an interesting habanero– mango sauce that had a tiny kick to it.
The chef sent over some samples of their pork belly and OMG that was good. If I go back that is most definitely what I will order.

We came to Public House because it was the last place on the strip with an open kitchen at 10:30pm on a Friday night that wasn’t packed to the rafters.
We were seated in the restaurant part, towards the back, which was fine because it offers some pretty neat people-​watching on the sidewalk directly in front of the restaurant. Service was okay, nothing to write home about.
Drinks were good, well made mojitos, which I always appreciate. My dinner was FABULOUS — I had the Farmer’s Market Flatbread special, which was refried beans, mixed cheeses, and tomato slices (seriously, flavor off the charts). My date had the steak flatbread which was unappetizing and went uneaten. We shared the french fries, also good.
Random complaint — wasn’t crazy about the seating. The bench is way too low for the butcherblock table at which you sit. I HATE eating from chest height.
The atmosphere was fun and rocking the whole night.

The vibe — I feel old every time I come here. Yes, the music was playing very loud (I mean, loud). I guess for the younger folks its cool. But for older gents like myself, I can barely hold a conversation even with a person sitting next to me.
The décor — It is nice and modern. Lots of drink options from craft beers and cocktails. And it gets packed early. We were just there having dinner and before 8pm Friday night the whole place was jammed and shoulder to shoulders.
The food — I wish I found out about their recent shut down due to health violations before coming in here. We ordered fish tacos, steak tacos and flat breads. I ordered the steak tacos and they were pretty good. I was told the flat breads were nice. But the fish tacos were «fishy». I don’t think it was cooked right, maybe even undercooked and we pretty much left that dish along.
The service — Our waitress on that evening was nice. She had a big smile on her face when servicing us, and took pretty good care of us even though it was a very busy night.
The Return? — I’d probably say yes, for happy hours. Beers are cheap during happy hours.
