Specialties
We do serve Lunch and Dinner but we are known for our fabulous desserts. Most of our items contain chocolate, of course, but we do have a couple of desserts that are non-chocolate. We also carry 3 desserts that are gluten free, and are just as tasty.
History
Established in 2007.
The Chocolate Café came about in 2007. I had always wanted to open a café when I retired but did not want to open another coffee shop or sandwich place. So I went to the internet to find ideas. I came across a lot of chocolate cafes but all in Europe. This would be the Café I would open, who doesn’t like Chocolate.
I found the perfect place, in Old Town Fort Collins, decided it should be upscale and after 6 months of renovations, The Chocolate Café was open.
It was a very slow start. People were not use to a fine dining restaurant that only served desserts. (we do now serve food but that’s another story) Our customers finely caught on in about a year but now it is the place to go in the evening.
Meet the Business Owner
Mike D.
Business Owner
Believe it or not my original profession was an air conditioning mechanic. I have no formal training in culinary arts but have baked all my life as a hobby, since I was 8 years old.
I started in Fort Collins as a Chief Engineer for a hotel company. After 6 years I was promoted to Assistant Manager/Food and Beverage Director. It was in these positions that I learned my way around the kitchen and the business knowledge that I would need in the future to operate my own business. After 13 years with the company I decided to fulfill my dream and open the café.
My wife Diane and I now bake all the food that is served at the Café and I would not trade it for anything.
