Established in 2006.

Kevin M McClain’s formal training in music made him realize that most of the teachers he had used out side of his schooling where teaching him incorrectly. Shying away from working at local shops due to inner office politics dictating what teacher receives more or less students more so than the merit of the teacher, Kevin started McClain’s Minds of Music in 2006. With his formal training in performance, theory, and composing, the student not only receives the correct information but also the bigger picture of music that even most educated instructors can offer because most have not studied theory and composition.

Taking a profound interest in the guitar, Kevin developed a keen sense of improvisational skills in his earlier years, playing in multiple styles of bands that included Rock, Jazz, Funk, Bluegrass, and highly experimental Jam-​bands. After rapidly advancing on the piano and being introduced to classical music and jazz, his interests gravitated toward both the study of the piano and the classical guitar. Provoked by the compositions of J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Villa Lobos, Fredric Chopin, Kevin began to study music theory and composition in college. Recieving his Associates degree from Moraine Valley community College, Kevin went on to study at DePaul Universits’ School Of Music where he continues his studies in composition as well as classical and jazz guitar and classical piano.
