PappaRich Flushing

I usually don’t write reviews for a restaurant unless I been here more than once. To start off, the restaurant is located on the third floor of the Fulton square. It has outside sitting and the restaurant itself is pretty big with a lot of seatings.
Starting with the service, I have to say the first time I came here with my sister. The service wasn’t extremely bad, the server did come back and forth to refill our water. Since we sat all the way in the back where they couldn’t see us, it was hard for them to give us much Attention. The second time I came here with my family. The service was alright, they did come back and forth to refill our water but it was hard to get them attention unless we press the button. When we pressed the button is did took them a while to come over to our table. It also took them a while for them to notice that we are actually done putting down our orders and that we need a server to actually take the paper. Service: 3.5÷5
Second, the food and the drinks took extremely LONG to come. The first time I came the drinks took about 5 mins to come to us. The second time I came the drinks took 15 mins to come. Like I understand that there are other drinks to make but the fact that it wasn’t even that busy and it still took them that long which kind of turn me off and makes me wonder if they are just chilling around. The first time I came, we ordered an appetizer which is roti canai. The fact that our main entrée came first than our appetizer which kind of makes me feel weird and unorganized. Entrees are pretty filling and it does make you full so by the time my appetizer came I was already too full to eat it.
–Hainanese chicken set: some part of the chickens was hard and not moist and tender. The rice that came with it doesn’t have a really strong flavor so when I dipped the chicken to the spicy sauce it covered the taste of the rice. The soup was good! 3.5÷5
–Roti canai: even though I was too full to finished, I have to admit it this is one of my fav dish. Roti was made to a perfect texture not too flaky nor too dry. ⁴⁄₅
–Ipoh kway thaw: the broth was good! I liked the chicken flavor. This is my favorite dishes that I had so far! It comes with 3 – 4 shrimps, chives, bean sprouts, and thin noodles. 4.5÷5
Overall, I would come to try more food and drinks. Just don’t expect a good amount of attention from severs.

Came here with my best friend to celebrate me finally passing my road test! :) I had expected this place to be horrible and was actually still debating whether or not to come here like 5 mins before we got here. But I was in for a surprise because I finally found a Malaysian restaurant in NYC that I actually like! The moment we stepped into the premises, we were greeted and seated in no time. I recommend coming here a little early to avoid a wait for dinner. We got here at 6 and there was no line at all but there was a long line outside later on in the evening. Service was excellent, very cordial and attentive. We got water refills on a frequent basis and they came by on several occasions to take away the empty plates. You can summon a waiter within milliseconds after pushing the button on the table lol… Place is fancy and tables/​utensils were clean. There are windows throughout the whole restaurant and the view outside is great.
Nasi lemak– I tried this for the first time at Mamak in the East Village and it tasted disgusting. The one here was so much better! The chicken was fresh and the rice was soft and fluffy. The sauces mixed together very well and had a nice spiciness to them. They also have peanuts and anchovies on the side that I thought really complimented the dish.
Skewers– 3 chicken and 3 beef. These were absolutely delicious. They were cooked perfectly and had a nice crispness on the outer edges. The meat was actually not dry and quite moist. Marinade was amazing. I preferred the beef but the chicken was great too! Comes with a delicious dipping sauce.
Hainanese chicken– I was on the fence on whether to order this or not since the pictures make it seem like the portion of chicken that they give is very little but it ended up being a decent amount. The chicken was delicious!!! So fresh and tender. Breast meat is usually dry but idk what they did to make it so moist and yummy! Usually at other Malaysian restaurants they give you the parts of the chicken that are all bone but here they gave so much meat. Comes with a sweet soy sauce, sweet and spicy chili sauce, and ginger sauce. The rice was meh.
Roti canai– Another dish that I always get at Malaysian restaurants but am always left disappointed with. I really liked the one here though! It’s a little more on the thicker side than traditional roti canai but I like it this way since it actually feels like I’m eating something instead of flaky thin pieces of nothing. The chicken that comes with it was great as were the two accompanying sauces.
I’m so glad I ended up deciding to come here. The negative reviews are probably because it’s a new restaurant and they’re still trying to iron out all the kinks but it seems like they’ve gotten their act together now. The food was authentic, flavorful, and delicious. Décor is fancy. Service was impeccable. Contrary to what most people say, the dishes aren’t that much more expensive than those at other Malaysian restaurants. The portions sizes are also pretty big. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees and halfway through, I was thinking whether we should’ve ordered one dish less lol. $ 40 (not including tip) for 2 people which I find very reasonable. Overall, great dining experience! I had a great day!

Ever since my sister & I ate at the original Pappa Rich (twice) in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (in Malaysia) a few months ago, we were reminiscing about the delicious foods we ate there. We were so happy to have found out that there was a Pappa Rich in Flushing that opened since February (living in NYC has its perks as most good franchises like to open in NY). I live in Brooklyn, and I love Pappa Rich so much that I am willing to endure a 2 hour train ride to eat here. The foods are really exceptional, and the closest to what malaysian food (comparing it the many so called malaysian restaurants in NYC) should be.
For the ones complaining about the ordering system (writing down your items on the white piece of paper) — in Malaysia, that was the way it was done at every Pappa Rich franchise. I thought their ordering system was unique, not that convoluted & never once had a problem with it. I applaud Pappa Rich management for continuing this type of ordering system in NYC. Ordering is not that hard — just write the item number, amount, and specifications/​descriptions if needed.
A few weeks ago, my sister, good friend who is Malaysian, and I came to eat here. We ordered to share: 1) Satay Mixed (6 sticks — 3 chicken & 3 beef), 2) Roti Canai w/​Curry Chicken, 3) Nasi Lemak, 4) Seafood Curry Laksa, 5) Iced 3 Layer Tea, 6) Iced Soya Milk Pudding w/​Grass Jelly. WOW we were all shocked at how every single item was so delicious, and authentic. My most favorite was the satay mixed, roti canai (best one I have eaten in NYC), nasi lemak, and the iced 3 layer tea. So damn good! It was equally as good as the one I have eaten in Malaysia.
Staff was very friendly and attentive. We did not encounter any problems while dining here. Seating was comfortable and the restaurant was very spacious.
We had such a wonderful time that we are planning our next trip here again! Highly Highly Recommended! If you are craving authentic Malaysian foods — do come here!

I uploaded 9 pictures over three visits, so I feel comfortable enough giving my opinion. So I’ll write for those with very, very short attention spans and then they can look at my food pictures.
— Language is no barrier, Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Spanish, Mongol, pig Latin, whatever. You just write the numbers of menu items and hand them over to your server. That’s why this place is so inviting in this neighborhood, anyone off the street can see pictures of the food and write numbers for what they want. Hooray! (You can also hit a buzzer where your table number lights up near the front, again, there’s no way the server can miss this or pass you by)
— The food comes out quite fast because of the above ordering system (because less confusion on the menu items is good for everyone)
— Malaysian cold Tea /​Coffee combination = yummy and reminds me of South East Asia! «鴛鴦»
— Authentic Malaysian «feel» and flavoring, because this is an international chain, they’re legit.
–Pretty good prices, pleasant service, all the employees seem on the same page (I hope!). Also I think they have a very large kitchen because of the amount of customers they bring in.
Bad things: My wife had a fried chicken thigh that wasn’t cooked through, but the manager took care of it and reheated it. Another time I ordered a Longan ice drink with maybe 40 pieces of ice and some cubes flew out while stirring it, I won’t order it again. Last the waiters and waitress have a habit of asking, did you order this? When you say yes, then the food comes out maybe 30-​seconds later, meaning the food /​dessert sat on the kitchen line while they double checked their sheet.
I guess I can’t say I’m a huge 100% fan (my wife is), but after three visits I am a regular customer and enjoy going there.

This was my first Malaysian restaurant experience and an excellent one. My friend took me here since we were in the area. She is Malaysian so it was pretty cool that we went there. She was able to tell me what was authentic Malaysian food. It was good experience. I was a little surprised that we had to write our order on a paper, but hey, whatever.
My friend got the Assam Laksa, it was thick rice noodles in a fish based broth with pineapples to sweeten it up. It was really good. The noodle was well done and tasted really good. The dish to me was unique and definitely amomg the best noodles i have tried. I on the other hand had the Roti canal with curry Chicken. It was quite a learning experience cause it seemed like Indian food to me but there was a slight difference in taste. It was also very good. I topped my meal off with a Bandung, it was smooth and a sweet compliment to the tasty meal.
Before we left we saw one of the staff preparing a batch of Fresh tea or at least that’s what it looked like.

Initially this place was kind of hard to find since its on the 3^rd floor of fulton square and you either walk up the outdoor staircase or take the elevator. Not easy to spot from the street. Décor was very nice. Dining room felt open and airy not too crowded and the rounded booths were comfy.
There is a unique ordering system here where you write down the items you want with the quantity and hand it to your server. There were a lot of different choices so it was hard to choose but all of the pics in the menu looked good that we wanted to try a lot of different things.
We started with some drinks. The mango slush drink had fresh fruits and jellies inside like melon balls and lychee. It was very refreshing. The iced tarik tea was good but it would be good to see them actually pull it. Don’t expect too much besides a regular milk tea. Get the 3 layer tea for a sweeter taste and a cooler pic.
We ordered a fluffy roti canai pancake to start that came with a sweet red sauce, dhaal and curry chicken sauce for dipping. All the sauces were good and the pancake was filling and made it hard to save room for the other food.
The biryani rice I chose had a small pyramid mound of spiced rice with currants and came with fiery sambal shrimps, chunks of beef rendang and curried bone in chicken. Along with two flat rice crisps. I really enjoyed this dish as I am a sucker for flavored rice but the shrimps definitely had a bit of heat to them.
The fried rice dishes at first glance look like regular fried rice except they add anchovies to it. Don’t order it if you don’t like fish. Ours came with a fried chicken wing, some curry chicken and satay skewers of beef and two crisps. Lots of different flavors in this dish.
We got the egg custard for dessert which had tapioca and coconut milk and a cream that was slightly salty like milk foam. Came in a cute ergonomic looking glass easier for eating.
Overall good service they came to refill our waters pretty frequently and we never felt like we were neglected. There is a button on the table to call for service not sure if it actually works though. It is a little costlier than the other neighborhood malay spots but will definitely try again as there are a bunch of dishes which look appealing.

Take it from a true Malaysian — hands down best Malay food in Flushing!
First off — I really don’t understand why people are saying it’s overpriced. For a meal like this in the city (and I understand it is not), you would be paying well over $ 100+ for 4 – 5 dishes and it’s literally half the price here in Flushing. One Fulton Sq, if the name itself and architectural design hasn’t already implied, is meant to be more of a high class restaurant than the rest of the restaurants in Flushing. The interior design of the restaurant is very modern, pleasant, and there are couch-​like chairs for their patrons. At about $ 10 per appetizer and $ 15 – 20 for your main course, it is decently priced. If you’re looking for cheap food and don’t care much about quality, there are other restaurants that are clearly not up to par with worse health grades out there.
Bf and I were walking back from Skyview mall when the outdoor seating attracted our attention. We decided to pop in around 9pm where Papparich was clearly the most popular restaurant among all the other dining area in the complex. Thinking it was not going to be too cold, we requested for a seat outside and gladly waited 10 minutes for a seat to open up. After a while, it started to get a little chilly so we requested to move indoors and our server moved us without complaints.
We ordered the Nasi Briyani with Shrimp Sambal, Beef Rendang, Roti Kaya (AMAZING), Satay platter (beef/​chicken) and vegetables cooked in Shrimp Sambal.
— Nasi Briyani with Shrimp Sambal and Beef Rendang– LOVED IT! The shrimp had just enough belachan flavor without being too salty! It reminds me of my grandma’s cooking but ever since moving out, I haven’t had that luxury anymore but I know where to get my fix of home cooked meal now!
–Roti Kaya– my first time trying it and I fell in love. That first bite was like heaven on earth. My bf doesn’t even like coconut but he loved this! It’s fried like a scallion pancake but instead of scallion, the inside is filled with Kaya. That’s one appetizer I will be returning for.
–Satay — beef/​chicken combo was good because I don’t like beef as much but my bf does so we get the best of both worlds. Satay and curry dipping sauce complements well with the onions and cucumbers to make your traditional Malay skewer stick. Chicken and beef were both cooked to the perfect texture avoiding burnt meat.
— Vegetables cooked in Shrimp Sambal — I felt they added a bit too much dried shrimp in this making the dish a bit more saltier than my liking. However, most dishes like these are meant to be complemented with rice but since I’m on a diet and dislike rice, I ate it solo and still enjoyed it.
One thing we wish they’d serve is Alcohol but I understand liquor licenses are expensive and it’s a Muslim country. It’d bring in a lot more patrons though!
Eating at Papparich makes me feel like I’m back in my home country with the authenticity of the dishes. I don’t think the portions are small at all compared to what other reviewers have mentioned. I think it’s actually normal. Service was great with 3 – 4 different servers constantly filling up our water and taking away our plates without us asking. I would definitely pay a bit more to come here for the ambiance and to get away from your typical mainstream restaurant in Flushing.
Our bill came to $ 60+ with a 40% tip for 5 items but c’mon, it’s pretty cheap.

Before I begin the review: GET THE 3 LAYER ICE TEA. or coffee. According to people who knows (older generation), their tea is very close to how it’s supposed to taste.
It is self-​service as you write your own order. The entire menu is numbered. I witnessed a neigboring table who ordered the wrong item and the manager said «that’s what you wrote» and he didn’t budge. I would confirm the order with the waiter before handing it in. They have good hainanese chicken and various roti canai. Their other food are average.
A solid choice of a restaurant with comfortable and spacious seating. Very reasonably priced. Don’t be offended that they bring you the check after they entered the orders. They don’t rush you. Expect lines.

The food is not good according to my standard.
–Nasi Briyani cooked with too much star anis and it was salty. Flavor was too empowering compared to the original flavor.
–Beef rendang was salty compared to chicken curry.
–The sambal shrimp did not have enough belachan flavor.
–fried drumstick was nothing special compared to the real Malaysian mamak style when it should marinade with grate ginger and turmeric then deep fried in 400 degree.
Although food was not up to my standard but i do like ambience. Service was not great but not bad either. Told the same server three times and host two times that I wanted patio. And they still repeat the question again before leading us to the table.
I wanted to try cendol very bad and Assam laksa but due to personal emergency evacuation, I have to comeback some other time.

Was beyond excited when I found out a Papparich was opening up in NY, let along somewhere convenient for me! Came here for dinner and had to wait a while before being seated. I ordered the Nasi lemak, which tasted exactly like in Malaysia, as well as the curry chicken roti canai which was tasty as well. The asam laksa was alright but I wouldn’t order that again the next time I’m there. All in all, worth trying! I’ve been there 3 times back to back over the weekend.

I’ve come across this restaurant many times while walking back and forth in Main Street but never really had an opportunity to try it. Fortunately, on one Saturday night I was able to come. As others have mentioned, this is in the newer building in the area. I think they call the building One Fulton Square or something like that. And yes, it is on the third floor accessible by elevator or stairs (the stairs aren’t that high or steep).
Papparich attracted me because I had seen my friends post their meals on social media and such. Coming here on a Saturday night, the place was pretty busy even though it was POURING outside. We were able to be seated right away in a booth, which I thought was nice too. There is an abundance of seating throughout! The waiter/​waitress (different people would attend to our table) were all very sweet, thoughtful and professional. The way ordering here works is, you look at the menu and fill in a piece of paper naming the item, quantity and any special requests you may have. Then you press a buzzer that’s on every table and someone will come assist you.
I forgot what the name of anything I ordered was, because I would just write down stuff like R01, etc. But, the Hainese (??) chicken (this I do remember) was the only one that came with rice and a SOUP, for some reason. That was okay. (except that one order had good cuts of chicken, IG on the thigh with plenty of meat while my other order was VERY BONEY WITH BARELY ANY MEAT AT ALL) and I expected the meat to be smoother… Overall, the flavor of the food was okay. their spiciness really makes my stomach hurt. I don’t know why because I wouldn’t say it’s the type of spicy that makes me sweat or even drink water. It kind of reminds me of Indian food actually.
Everything pretty much came out fairly quickly, except this one dish with. bread and «sauces» on the side came out when we were all already done with our meal. Nevertheless, I asked for that to be packed and they packed it kindly so that the bread would not get soggy while being mixed with the «sauces.» The staff also never missed an opportunity to refill our water. And chased us down to remind us that we forgot our take out on the table.
The service here is great, the food probably tastes better at Sentosa which is across the street (though I would not say it is much cheaper) but this place is definitely cleaner!

It was really nice and clean inside but the food, nothing special. I would say they’re a copy of the restaurant «Sentosa» across the street but they’re flavored are blown up and thick tasting. I had the recommended curry noodle soup. The soup was good but the noodles were mushy. Also ordered the roti with three different sauces. It was like a scallion pancake with Indian flavored dips… eh. My mom had the beef skewers. Again nothing special. Also had a soy bean slush drink with grass jelly. It was so thick I had to add ice and still couldn’t drink it.
Our waiter had such bad breath that I almost threw up after my meal. And his breath lingered at the table for a good 20 seconds. So gross.
Overall, nothing drives me to go back.

Yes it is up the stairs on the 3^rd floor out the elevator, but it’s worth going up for some high quality Malaysian food.
Sit down, look at your order form and menu, put what you what on their piece of paper. Ring the bell on your table and a server will come take your order form and wait for your food. I love the idea of having buttons on my tables to call for help.
Ordered the Laska noodles, nasi lemak and bryiani rice with curry chicken, and some chicken skewers for appetizers. The flavors are stronger and packs a bigger punch than other places I’ve tried. It’s a couple dollars more, but you will taste where that extra $ for flavor and quality goes to.
Drinks are pretty refreshing. My go to drink is the barley tea (hot or cold).
Service is very attentive and great. The only turn off is that they give you the bill before you are done. I guess it’s not appealing to order something again when they already gave you the bill.

Been to this place twice now and can honestly say this is one of the better malay restaurants that I’ve patronized in nyc. A big reason why this place really does it for me is that they really kicked up the spices here for most of the dishes. While other malay places may have the same identical dishes, they usually come across as dull and flavorless, while this establishment really ramps up the spices which give all the food items a real kick. Service is good… my only problem is the fact that the prices are fairly inflated compared to most other malay establishments, but you pay for quality, flavor and authenticity! onto the list of food items!
Roti canai — flakey malay bread with an assortment of dipping sauces including curry chicken. bread could have been more crispy, but still not a bad take on a classic
Biriyani rice with curry chicken and beef rendang sambal prawns — the rice was so awesome, extremely flavorful and pungent, definitely was a strong kick to the taste buds with some very intense spices in the mix. beef rendang was flavorful and incredibly tender and moist. Sambal shrimp tasted earthy and sweet
hainan chicken — incredibly tender and moist, chicken was cooked to perfection. came with an assortment of dipping sauces soy sauce, lemon garlic sauce and sweet and spicy chilli sauce. Honestly the best thing I’ve eaten here, the chicken was literally fall off the bone tender!
chicken and beef satay. Again the meat here is done incredibly well. both the chicken and the beef were incredibly tender, while the hint of tumeric, cumin and various other spices paired extremely well with the peanut dipping sauce
rose milk tea — was not a fan, the scent definitely was too much for me, i literally thought i was gulping down a perfume bottle laced with milk and sugar, definitely reminded me too much of chemicals
again overall the food here is done incredibly well. Great use of spices and the meat was incredibly tender and well prepared. Price was a bit off putting though

New to Malaysian cuisine? No fear, PappaRich will guide you through Southeast Asian cuisine hand-​in-​hand. And I mean it. With high quality pictures depicting every single item on their menu, you’d have to be really intoxicated to not be able to pick from their life-​sized Applebee’s style menu.
Aesthetics ⁵⁄₅
Added attention to presentation. Everything on each plate appeals to the eyes as the chefs here complement every dish with perfect color and visual depth.
Chicken satay for instance pops out amongst its banana leaf background. Coupled with curry sauce, in case that was too earthy toned for your eyes, they threw in magenta onions and green cucumbers just to offset it.

Unfortunately my eyes scream TAKE MA MONEY, my palate was like: «oh that’s it?»
Though I have no general complaints, I did get the impression that food here is very catered, in that none of the dishes we ordered shock my palate or make me scream more. However they do have the basics done right to satisfy a wide range of taste buds.
Nasi lemak. The curry chicken lacks flavor, curry was drizzled over hence flavor only found at the surface of this traditional dry marinated dish.
Meen goren. They use lo mein noodles here, which is a not bad alternative to the traditional pad Thai noodle dish. However sauce heavy in Sriracha flavors.
Chicken satay with curry sauce. You definitely taste the spices on that stick, however too sweet for my preference.

Superb. Efficient staff attentive without being too intrusive. Knowledgeable and patiently guided me through their most popular dishes.
We did find it shocking that they presented our table with the check shortly after receiving our food. But if that’s how they roll, who am I to complain? It’s only western society that presents checks afterwards anyways.
Atmosphere ⁵⁄₅
Bright warm lights that made the dishes look extra yummy, and made me feel extra pretty sitting right by the mirror. Outdoor patio seating available that look out onto pedestrian sidewalks via the newly opened Fulton center.
Short chat with their staff. Found out that PappaRich is indeed a chain restaurant, this one being the second in North America (with one in SF), this being the first on the East Coast.
Highly recommended spot if you’re bringing friends who are skeptical of trying out new foods. Meeting your significant others parents for the first time? They got you with lively atmospheres so it don’t get too awkward.

After hearing buzzes about this spot since their openings in Asia, I knew I have to come here soon when they decide to open in Queens! I must say that I really loved the décor of this spot. I thought it was very neat and sleek looking. Upon seating, we are given a list to write our orders in and press the service button when we are ready. After the waiter takes your list and puts in the order, they return it with a bill which I thought was just a little awkward. Is this what happens in Asia? Hmm…
I got the Three Layer Tea which consists of milk, tea, and gula melaka (sugar from coconut tree). This came in a pretty tall glass with a long spoon and you can see the three different colors of the three ingredients. After mixing the layers together, we have a refreshing iced milk tea! It was great!!!
For appetizers, my bestie and I shared the Mixed Satay Skewers with Chicken and Beef. Both had a strong curry taste to it and it was tender. I thought this dish was okay to start with.
I opt for the Hainan Chicken Rice with Steamed Chicken Set which also comes with a soup. I did like the freshly cut poached chicken with a side of bean sprouts — both were soaked in their special soy sauce. Rice was soft with just a hint of ginger aroma. This was a decent choice for a meal.
Overall, a really nice and relaxing spot. I will definitely come back for their infamous Roti plates and more of that Three Layer Tea!

The interior of this place is super fancy and modern because the restaurant is part of the gentrification that Flushing seems to be undergoing. All servers were very patient and friendly with us as they explained how to order. Both servers that talked to us seemed to only speak mandarin which is not a problem for me and my friend but may be for others who only speak english. We got the naan with curry sauce to share, the hainan chicken and rice set, and the pappa asam laksa.
Naan with curry sauce ($ 5.90) — Absolute disgrace to naan. This basically tasted like breadsticks you would find at Dominos. The curry taste similar to the one at Sentosa but Sentosa is definitely more authentic. I do not recommend this dish if you want to eat Malaysian food.
Hainan chicken and rice set ($ 9.90) — Came in a cool plate with three sauces (soy sauce, light chili sauce, ginger sauce) and fried onion flakes on top of bean sprouts. Pretty typical of what you’d expect and the sauce under the chicken itself was my favorite. This dish is annoying to eat because it comes with bone but some people are pro at eating it and I’m not one of them. Because I don’t eat the skin either, it seemed like there was not enough meat so it still left me unsatisfied. My favorite part of this dish is the chicken rice! Slightly salty and good texture.
Pappa asam laksa ($ 8.90) — Basically a very sour and spicy fish broth with udon noodles and some onions, cucumbers, pineapples and little bits of salty preserved fish. My friend thought this was way too sour and the dish does not have any meat so it left her pretty unsatisfied too. She said it seemed like they poured a whole bottle of vinegar into the soup.
Food was a tad disappointing but maybe it was the dishes we ordered. All the curry noodles looked good as well as the rice dishes. Service was pretty good and prices are decent so I would give this place another try if I am ever feeling Malaysian food again

The restaurant looks new, the rest of our party that arrived late couldn’t find us. The entrance is in between the buildings (39^th & Roosevelt), take the elevator or stairs up to the 2^nd Fl. There’s no entrance off the street level corner of 39^th St.
We went last week and surprisingly no wait even for a large party. By large party, I mean they had to put some tables together for us. BUT First, before offering to do that, they tried to fit us into a corner booth and the 2^nd offer was another small table for 4 people. We looked at the hostess and waiter like what? We can’t fit, the host just dropped our menus on the table and walked away. How rude!
After we finally got seated in a properly sized table, we sat down and ordered. They dropped off one paper which we started writing our order numbers on. Then they came and asked if we wanted drinks and dropped of a 2^nd paper. This is where the confusion started.
Drinks started arriving and then food, the drinks were wrong. We got 2 of some longan tea drink and only (1) 3 layer tea. I ordered 2 of the 3 layer tea. The waitress gave me the papers back and I showed her, she didn’t understand where it all went wrong. She entered the wrong quantity for the wrong drink!
Food comes out and the same thing happens to another dish. 2 of one fried chicken entrée, but I ordered 2 of the hainanese chicken. Checked the paperwork and this one was my error. My bad! This is when I realize the item# ordering system doesn’t work. As others have complained, the service is lacking with rude waiters and messed up orders!
However when we started eating all the food which we ordered way to much of, it was delicious. My favorites included the fried chicken, fish head curry stew, hainanese chicken, and drinks (especially the 3 layer tea)!
I returned a 2^nd time and again there wasn’t any wait. The 2^nd time the host and waitresses were much smoother and there were no order issues. However I noticed when walking by the roti station, there is a tip box there for the roti maker and the curries are pre-​made in a warming station. I also noticed what I think is the owner or manager, he’s an older gentlemen who’s wearing jeans and a Papparich shirt.
The bathrooms are also pretty clean. I enjoy the food and it does come out pretty quickly. It is more expensive than Sentosa, Penang, or Taste Good Malaysian, but the flavors taste more authentic.
I’m still unsure if this is a fast food eatery or a fine dining establishment? The call buttons remind me of Korean restaurants. Why can’t they just rid of the paper ordering system and just take the orders and punch them into the system?
I’m tempted to try the chili crab but it’s $ 50!

Pursuant to Doctor Elsie W.‘s review, we embarked on an adventure to this restaurant within this relatively new building, which appears to have been built by someone from Taipei (the building itself reminds me of the high end shopping district near Taipei City Hall MRT Station), but I digress.
Food: everything we ordered was quite good. Loved the multiple breads with sauces, the fish filet curry pot, the vegetables, and the beef, though a bit salty.
Service: there is a wireless bell placed in the middle of the table, but I’m not sure that it works — we were almost always served about half a second before we attempted to press the button, it’s as though they were watching us lol! Oddly, we were given a check before we even began eating — not sure what this is about. We had to add items to our check and the server had to go and edit our check — kind an inefficient way to operate.
Décor: brand new building, love this area! Parking is rough, though. But that is an issue in all of Flushing.

I came here after a great workout. It was probably a bad choice, but the food was oh so good!!! I had never had malaysian cuisine and I liked it a lot. So definitely a nice place for dinner.
I came with a friend who had mentioned Papparich and wanted to try it!!! I am always for exploring and trying new things. Upon arrival, it was a bit confusing where the restaurant was located but we found it. The restaurant was very simply decorated but was nice. We were greeted warmly and immediately seated. Since it was my first time trying this type of cuisine, I looked at my friend for guidance. Wow!!! All the food on the menu sounded and looked great. For the appetizer we ordered roti with curry chicken. It was so delicious. I opted for the rice dish, coconut rice with curry chicken, fried anchovies, a hard boiled egg, peanuts, and cucumbers. It was very flavorful, although I did not eat the anchovies. Definitely not my cup of tea. However the dish was delicious. The chicken was so flavorful and the rice omg had so much coconut flavor. My friend ordered the biryani with beef, prawns, and the curry chicken. My friend definitely enjoyed the meal just as I did. The portions were great. I also ordered a lime cooler. It was oh so refreshing. I definitely enjoyed my time at Papparich and am coming back to try something different. I was eyeing the crab dish on the menu. Maybe next time. Thanks to my friend for picking this nice restaurant.

Came here on a friend’s recommendation. I saw his pix and it looked amazing, so I wanted to try it that evening.
This place does get super packed in the evening. They don’t have a system when it comes to waiting for tables. You go in, tell someone your name and how many people, and either you or a hostess will write it down on a list and give you a bad estimation on your wait time. We were told 20 mins. We waited an hour. So, that’s the first thing.
Second, there’s no real place to wait. I am very considerate of where I stand so I dont block people… but it was just tough to not be in people’s way!!! Patrons even waited outside. It was stressful standing there.
I was ready to walk out, but my BF said, «we waited this long… just to walk out?» Point made, so we stayed.
Once we sat down, it took a while to get that paper to write our own order down. There’s a button to call a server over. We pressed it, and no one came over. We kept getting served other people’s food in the process. That happened 3x. I had to keep telling them we didn’t even get water or that a server didn’t even talk to us yet.
Finally, we get water, utensils and a paper and pencil. We already knew what we wanted and put it on the paper. Then no one came for the paper for 15 mins!!! I pressed the button for someone to come and no one did! So I did the most obnoxious thing and held the paper up. I didnt wave it… just held it up. And someone saw it and came quickly.
A few minutes later, we got our bill for the meal!!! I wish they sat us down and the service was as fast as when they took our money and billed us. It was a first to get the bill before getting our meal!
Anyway, let’s list what we ordered:
Beverages:
— 3 layered Tea — milk, tea and gula melaka iced
— a blended mango mania drink with crushed ice and fruits in it.
Appetizers:
— satay chicken (6 sticks)
— roti canai with curry chicken
— fried chicken crackeds — marinated chicken skin deep fried until golden and crispy
Entrees:
— Pappa Asam Laksa — thick rice noodles served in aromatic fish-​based tamarind broth with shredded pineapple, lettuce, red chili, cucumber, onion and lemongrass. Topped with shrimp paste and mint leaves
— Nasi Leman with Curry Chicken — fragrant coconut mill infused steamed rice served with curry chicken, fried anchovies, fried peanuts, hard boiled egg, freshly made chili and sliced cucumber
— Fried chicken thigh and Biryani Rice. I didn’t like the rice because it tasted like perfume to me. It is heavily seasoned and it tasted like you were eating perfume or a candle.
Dessert:
— egg pudding with sago
— banana fritters with vanilla icecream
Once we got our drinks, the food came out quickly. I gave this place a 3 because the service was unorganized. None of the servers had a section… they just ran to whoever rang a bell. By the time dessert came out, we had no utensils. Gladly, it started to die down at 930pm and when I rang the bell, someone answered!
Even though my rating is a 3, I’d like to give this place another try. I would probably come at a not so busy time. I understand that it was busy and all… so I don’t want to completely shut this place down. I do recommend this place.

Words can’t explain how excited I was when I came across PappaRich in Monterey Park and then came back to NYC and found out that it opened here too! I was so eager to try it. I had it when I was visiting family in Malaysia (Port Dickson). My first experience there obviously left a good impression since I still remember it.
The first thing I noticed was the price differences vs in MY. It’s wayyyy more $$$ than there (reasonable bc of the constant rising costs. the menu has the staples of a Malaysian cuisine. I had the Curry Laksa and my boyfriend had the Nasi Lemak. We shared a Roti Canai Curry Chicken.
The ordering system is pretty awesome. You mark the items you want on a paper provided and press a button/​bell when you are ready or if you need the waiter/​waitress. The process is pretty quick and the service is lovely. Very attentive staff.
Food didn’t take long to come out, but hat made me question how fresh it was… The Curry Laksa didn’t lack any flavor and was very filling. the Nasi Lemak was just the way it should be except the shrimp sambal was over cooked! The Roti Canai was my favorite. I haven’t had
Roti ever since I left Malaysia. I overheard it’s made fresh so it takes longer to arrive at your table (chef who makes it is from India, so he knows the dealio). The 3 layer iced tea with Gula Melaka has a very distinct taste. Very fragrant.
This was a good meal but I don’t think I’ll be back often, except for the Roti Canai. Its quite pricey compared to other Malaysian cuisines. But certain dishes have obvious better quality.

My mom saw an advertisement in the Chinese newspaper and been wanting to come and try so we finally did tonight. It was hella packed on a Sunday night and 30 mins+ more waiting time for customers with a huge group. The décor is elegant and nice atmosphere. We were seated exactly 30 mins at a comfy full booth in front of the mirror. The menu was very visually that way you can see what the dish actually looks like. We put in our order and it took awhile for the dishes to come out of the kitchen as they were simple dishes nothing extravagant that takes longer to cook.
I ordered a Bandung with Grass Jelly… hubba hubba I love the Rose flavor taste a lot. We shared a Garlic Naan with Curry Sauce that was okay but not really a wow factor. I ordered a Hainan Chicken Rice with Steamed Chicken Set which is one of my favorite chicken rice dishes and I really love how they made it better than my old childhood favorite spot =) My parents shared a Seafood Curry Laksa which was cooked in a coconut milk broth as I am pretty allergic but from my dad’s point of view… he preferred my dish way better.
Overall it was a delicious din din but the bathroom was disgusting!

Food: flavorful, different (and better!) from other Malaysian restaurants like Nyonya, Sentosa, Satay
Service: slow, torturous, mess up orders, SLOW
Despite the horrendous service, I’m still giving it a high rating because of their ROTI. Roti! So fluffy, buttery, flakey…
Get the «3 layer tea» — tastes like milk tea on steroids. Like a whole ‘nother level. Like 3 levels.
Note:
1) They have a «call button» on every table, which makes you think would make service smoother but no, they don’t answer until the 3^rd chime.
2) They’re supposed to give you a blank sheet to put your orders in, i.e. D18, A17, etc. (They didn’t give us one but we knew what we wanted already so we just ordered)
3) They give you the check right after you order, before you get your food. Again, it gives you the feeling that it’s a fast food joint, but it’s actually quite slow.

I was Flushing and happened to glance up to spot PappaRich!!! I was so happy and surprised to see this Malaysian chain in the US. Even though I had a bite to eat, I had to check it out! Going to the restaurant just brought back fond memories of when I used to work in Malaysia.
My party of two was quickly seated around 2pm on a Sunday. Since it’s pretty new, I think people have still not spotted this gem. We were given menus and a paper to fill out to place our orders. Once we were ready, we rang the buzzer at our table to get the staff’s attention to put in our order. We ordered the roti set with curry chicken ($ 7.50) and the ipoh kway teow soup with steamed chicken set ($ 9.90). The orders came out pipping hot and delicious! The roti was soft and flaky, buttery, and just a mouthful of goodness. The ipoh kway teow was also delicious but lacking a bit of seasoning. The chicken was moist and tender! We enjoyed the meal and were stuffed!
I will be back to try more next time I’m around!

First impression was their decorations was bright and very well light. It makes you feel welcome and at very comfortable tea house. Their ordering system is different than most restaurant. They give you a giant menu and a sheet of paper to write your order down. Love the menu because its filled with colorful big pictures. Definitely a kid, foreigner and first timer friendly menu. I don’t have a lot of experience with Malaysian cuisine but their menu makes ordering 100x easier. Plus the food actually comes out looking exactly like the picture. Makes you wonder if this is all a dream. Anyway once you have written down what your table wants you press the botton which calls on a waiter or waitress to pick up the sheet. While you wait you can enjoy free water given to you at the beginning.
Bathroom door slides like in the airplanes. You slide the door to close and then turn the knob so that it locks and says occupied. Its only one stall for each gender. There is another sink inbetween both bathroom for those who just wants to wash their hands. They have a very spacious bathroom.
Anyways back to the food. The wait time for food is about twenty minutes or so. They also have a sign on each table attached to the bell to warn you about the wait time needed for certain menu items. Our food came out one after another. Presentation is very beautiful and taste beautiful too. We got a bunch of stuff. Most of which are already ordered by other Unilocalers. But i support the other good reviewers in saying the food was delicious. It was definitely worth trying and i didn’t regret it.
One thing i didn’t like was the fact they give you the bill right after you order and before you get your food. I mean you can pay after you eat but it feels like we are rushed out or can’t order anymore food. I am guessing this method is so you don’t have to wait for your bill so you can pay when you want of course before you leave the restaurant.
I will post pictures of what i ordered and everything was delicious and very filling. Their portions are enough to fill one tummy and since i am pregnant it definitely filled two tummies. Their drinks are a must get because they are delicious and unique to flushing. Can’t get the milo dinosaur anywhere else but here. Oh if anyone is to order those meat sticks Definitely get chicken instead of beef. It taste much much better even though the beef is good but not as good as chicken and its cheaper than beef. Definitely will come back for more.

This is my favorite Malaysian chain restaurants! I’m so happy it’s in NY! I came with my husband and friends, both Malaysians, too. The food is almost there, but most dishes were a little drier than we would prefer.
We got Milo dinosaur, nasi lemak, mee mamak (not sure what it is on the menu), three layer tea, char kuay teow and soya pudding drink.
