Mudan Banquet Hall

My wife and I just hosted our wedding here. The venue manager, Derick, was an amicable person to work with and Rachel, the planning manager, was very supportive and flexible with our arrangements. The food was great based on the feedback off our guests and the open bar and bartender were a terrific addition. Even after our reception ended, Derick, even stepped in to speak to all of our guests and extended the open bar for another 20 minutes. The services were great and we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome of our wedding. Highly recommended this majestic venue to all of those future couples looking for a great venue for their reception.

Attended my cousins wedding there. They had a vegetarian table set up for my family. The vegetarian food was colorful, fresh, and tasty. The staff was courteous and quick. Bathrooms are clean. They had the best vegetarian wedding banquet food compared to other banquet halls per my grandpa.

We had lunch together with 8 people. It cost us 400 bucks and we were still not full.
Nothing special about the food.
It does have nice decorations for events.
Avoid this for family dining.

Good food and atmosphere

had my wedding dinner here (Jan. 2013), overall, excellent, food got rave reviews from guests, service was exceptional, each table had its own individual server for the entire evening.

Long review as the bride — skip to the bottom for overall. A note — Mudan has 2 Unilocal pages. Mulan is not the same as Mudan. Mulan is a bit more upscale but only holds 150 guests wedding whereas Mudan can hold 300+
I had my wedding here Oct 2014. I have extreme mixed reviews and emotions. The reason we settled on Mudan as a wedding reception venue was because of its modern look versus other restaurants that we have visited in Bklyn, Chinatown, Queens. Consulted with Derrick who is the manager for Mudan regarding menu options. They have A, B, C, D wedding menus with varying prices, Derrick offered a 10% discount on the days he had open in his calendar and since my family super Asian in picking a lucky day we opted to have our reception on a day with 10% discount. we asked about adding a baby pig to the menu and it was priced depending on your menu — if you had an expensive menu, the pig was cheaper. they add a mandatory 20% gratuities charge to the cost of the tables. they’re prepared for a 10% buffer of + or — tables. so if you reserved for 30 tables– you are allowed to go up or down 3 tables on the day of your reception without penalty. the baby pig is a different story. Obviously this is all cash — if you want to pay credit there’s taxes on top.
Working with Derrick had its moments when communication was a problem. he provided his cellphone and i would say 99% of the time he answered his phone. but it does take a few calls before he recalls who you are etc. i almost felt like i was harassing him at one point because i like to make sure he has everything on point. i was probably calling him once every other day with new questions. 50% deposit is required to confirm, i believe 80% is due a week prior and the final balance is due on the day of. he allowed us to customize the table cloth, napkins, and chair covers. The décor of the place is not covered — you need to hire your own decorator (we used Melissa’s Creation). he offered up 10 spots for free inside the building but we found out that it was just for 5 hours of parking. anything over 5 hours is charged at the regular rate. since my family would be staying a lot longer, we ended up not using the free spots at all — that sucked.
We asked for a tasting of some sort since we have never eaten at Mudan/​Mulan. Derrick told us to eat at Mulan because it’s the same food but that it isn’t free. They have cocktail hour hors deurves but the prices aren’t cheap either. They will also set up and hold your wedding ceremony here if you pay an additional $ 300 for setup/​breakdown fee. I opted to have my ceremony downstairs at the 360 Crossing Art Gallery instead for a bit more money — just to break up the space and for a different feel.
Mudan doesn’t have a projector so if you want to do some sort of a slideshow your MC/​DJ will need to come with that. the bridal room is a hot mess but functional. they have a few racks and some seating in there with a private bathroom for the bridal party — all of this came in handy. the location was not ideal because it was at the deep end of the restaurant.
On the day of the reception, we had mixed feedback from our guests. for the most part, the wait staff were speedy and friendly. some said the food was too little in portion while others had lots to take home. as the bride i was busy running around so i have no idea what the food even looked like. in chinese weddings, the bride barely gets a chance to eat so i had my MOH pack stuff into the bridal room and took some to go that i didnt get a chance to eat so by the time i actually ate the food was cold.
For centerpieces they would recommend Helen’s Florist which is one of the managers wives — how convenient for business ey? Not really sure what your other options were.

Overall, there are hurdles and barriers working with Derrick. I have 2 real complaints/​concerns. On the night of the reception, we paid the balance and he mentions that it is customary for the bride and groom to tip additional the wait staff. My bridal party insisted the wait staff was friendly, even helped set up the candles, etc during set up time. So i asked Derrick what would be customary as additional tip since 20% was already tacked on. He said $ 10 per table — we had 30 tables — an additional $ 300 cash handed to Derrick, he counted it, and jammed it into his pocket saying the wait staff has all gone home for the night. at that point I am led to believe he pocketed that cash as tip for himself. Hindsight — we were blindsided in the sense that our wedding was a blur — it went by so fast and you are busy handing tips to everyone and their mother helping you. I should have stood my ground and said No. 20% is enough for the wait staff. Brides and grooms — watch out for this!
Another issue is the fact that Derrick is UNresponsive via email, and unresponsive via texts — he actually told me don’t text him because he doesn’t have texting. What century do we live in? As a manager you should at least have either/

I had the pleasure of having my wedding here last month in September and it was great! From pre-​wedding questions to post-​wedding cleanup!
I’m an ABC (American Born Chinese) that wanted a traditional American style wedding ceremony, but a Chinese wedding banquet. I especially liked that Derrick (the Banquet Manager) and Rachel (the Banquet Sales Rep) knew how to accommodate both my very traditional Chinese parents, grandparents, and great aunts/​uncles with a customary tea ceremony, while managing the expectations of my crazy and wild «lo-​faan» friends with an liquor-​filled open bar! :)
Derrick and Rachel were also available to answer all of my questions — no matter how big or small. They were always available via text or email! They made special accommodations and even met with me after late working hours and mid-​day on Sunday to answer all my frantic bridezilla questions! :) I especially loved that they gave suggestions on what is «traditionally» suppose to be done, but at the same time wasn’t hesitant to let me know it’s okay to keep something «ABC». Hahaha.
On top of that, Derrick and Rachel helped to manage all of the logistics with my DJ and the photo booth guy! Plus, I was able to drop off all my centerpieces and wedding supplies the night before the wedding (since there wasn’t an event planned the night before) — it really helped the day of! On top of that, the restaurant staffed helped us set up our centerpieces the day of the wedding.
I did have my wedding during the U.S. Tennis Open — which meant half of my guest were stuck in some major TRAFFIC on a Friday after work. But many found their way to the hall in time and didn’t have any trouble parking since there was a parking lot right downstairs from the hall. Easy and convenient! :)
I have to admit, like every bride and groom — my husband and I were so busy that night, we didn’t get a chance to eat! But I did hear from my family and friends that the food and service was great!
All in all, MUDAN is a great place to have your Chinese wedding banquet! I would recommend it to any bride and groom looking for a traditional Chinese wedding!

Came here for a wedding last night and it was pretty good. The space is nicer than other chinese restaurants that I’ve been to. The food was good as well. It accommodated around 350 people so that’s pretty good! the waiters were really nice and friendly as well

We just had our wedding at Mudan and had a great experience. My husband and I are super anal about every detail and sometimes have a hard time trusting vendors to do what they’re suppose to do. Don’t let the negative reviews deter you. Derek was fantastic and very accommodating to our all our requests. He made us feel comfortable with the whole process and was one of the few vendors that lived up to their word. He actually listened to what we wanted instead of telling us what we wanted.
The food itself was great. Everyone said it was one of the best wedding menus they had ever had. The servers and bartenders were very friendly and made all our guests feel comfortable and at home. The managers helped guide us through the entire night. We want to give a final thanks to Mudan and the entire staff for all they did on our special night. Highly recommended.

I was one of the wedding planning team for my friend’s wedding. Mudan offers a great dinning hall, other than that nothing else.
1. waiter, waitress, bartender and the person in charge for the revenue they all have attitude and being rude.
2. not organized. part of the party hall was close before the event. the lady who was in charge told me they will reopen that part before the dinner starts. Later that night when the dinner is almost ready. she came to me and ask me if they can open it up. i told them i thought you will open it. she yells and claims i should have to her to open at specific time.
3. Hors d’œuvre for pre-​party. we told them to bring it out at 6pm. they said their kitchen was schedule for 7pm. food was serve in reception area, but some of the waiter were hanging out at the receiption desk and tried to serve people that just walk in. WTH… at least let people settle and check in first.
STAY OUT OF THIS PLACE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. its a really BAD Experience there.
OH. yah. FOOD part. its horrible. Ingredients are fresh. just wrong combination and favor. Lobster salad (Chinese Style-​originally suppose to goes with fresh apple, mango or any other fruit, instead, it came with all cook chopped vegetable. HORRIBLE.
PS: they mandatory charging 20% SERVICE FEES, i guest they are really afraid they wont receive any tips for the bad service.

My wife and I wanted a wedding reception hall that is modern, fancy looking and served Chinese style banquet. That’s why we went with Mudan Banquet Hall.
After reading all the reviews on Unilocal,my wife and I was hesitant to pick Mudan for my wedding. We visited many other Chinese restaurants and revenues and weren’t completely happy. Most places are too oriental looking with gold and red mixed theme, lacked of the choices for table/​chair covers to go with our theme and lack of lighting variations. I decided to pull the trigger on Mudan because they offer many things that we wanted: lots of room, big table, table/​cloth color combos that fits out theme perfectly, modern look, fancy and varieties of lighting. We tried the food in Mulan before, and they’re not that bad. Keep in mind their price is higher than others, but we were willing to pay more to make our wedding look beautiful.
It turns out we made the right choice. Our wedding was a blast, and we had a lot of compliments from our guests. With the additional of our beautiful centerpieces, candles and Melissa’s Creation’s decorations, the place looked gorgeous. The service from waiters was excellent. The food were brought out at the right time, spaced out, and they never made us feel like they were rushing. Another plus is they didn’t put the big plate of food in the middle table (that means they would take away the centerpieces). Many other restaurants did that, which is a big turn off for me. We spend a lot of effort and money in the centerpiece so we didn’t want them to move them half way thru the party. Another thing I like about them is they change plate after every course. The servers also offered to light up our candles on the tables for us.
They also provided us with 2 bars and 2 bartenders as well. Our guests love to drink and party so that’s a must for us. I didn’t have the chance to try all the food because I was busy as a groom, but out of all the ones I tried, they were decent to good. I asked my family and closed friends, and they said the food was good, not bad in anyways. They also provided us 10 free parking space under the building. I think it’s pretty reasonable. There’s a a huge parking right next to them that is pretty cheap also.
In the end, I was happy that I chose this place to celebrate my wedding. My manager Derrick was easy to deal with and was very helpful.

Came here for a wedding. The place looks nice, as far as Asian banquets go. Good open bar with lots of choices, too. But the food sucked. They fried everything, even the lobster. And the waiter did not know how to distribute food evenly. Some people got double the amount and others were left with inedible scraps.

This review is only for first impressions about this possibly being my wedding venue. I have not tasted the food.
People are rude and really don’t care about your business. I was really turned off. We’re still deliberating whether we want this venue, so we shall see whether an update about the food will come.

We visited this place for someone’s reception. The hall was nice and large with the décor in good shape. The food was average for a wedding reception, which is a good thing as I rate that type of food on a higher standard than a casual meal.

Came here for my friends wedding reception. The venue was pretty decent, better than most Asian places. The food on the other hand was horrible, I barely touched the food. The only thing that I actually liked was the shark fin soup and that was about it.

This is very nice for a chinese reception. It’s clean and people are well mannered. The service is good. They serve the food to you instead of everyone rush at it because of the family style dinner. The food was just okay though…

Full disclosure, it is the only one i’ve been to.
Went for a friends wedding, and didn’t really know what to expect when getting off the 7 train at the end of the line. (like walking into another country, btw, and I will be back to explore).
Dinner was like 10 – 12 courses I believe, I’m not exactly sure, because my food coma started before we had finished with all of them.
The food was very solid, high points in the meal were fried shrimp and walnuts, duck buns, and garlic fried lobster!

To my surprise, Mudan actually renovated it recently because last year I dined here, it was dimer and the chandelier was not as big as this time. It definitely got a great update on the décor.
I was here for a big banquet so I didn’t get to choose what food I got. The waiter actually served and divided up each dish for us. We had about 10 dishes and I love each single one of them! My favorites are Walnut Shrimp, crispy chicken, sauteed lobster and the savory herbal soup.
They also have a spacious dance floor and performance stage. I think it is perfect for a wedding, gathering or large parties.

MUDAN is the place to be for your big events. Service attentive, great management team, it’s what everyone talks about in Flushing for events — their reputation works by word of mouth.
They are a popular restaurant for hosting weddings, birthday parties, sweet 16’s, and other cultural events/​meetings like Taiwanese association meetings.
The décor is absolutely beautiful. If you are planning your wedding here, DON’T WORRY too much about how to make it look even more beautiful — just add a centerpiece, ask the manager to dim the main lights and change the light beams to any color that compliments your wedding theme. There are television monitors mounted on almost every wall panel and a pull down slide for projecting shows that will be available for usage. In terms of décor, this is definitely a big step above a typical Chinese restaurant. It’s spacious, breathable, and absolutely glowing.
The restaurant can also be separated by dividers to create sections for different events, such as a ceremony section, reception section, cocktail hour section. They can bring in an open bar as well into this restaurant.
It is located inside of Queens Crossing mall which has a number of clothing, houseware, food and other stores. If you are here for a big event, a small parking lot will be reserved for your immediate party members. Other regular guests can park at the municipal parking lot next door — top floor of the parking lot allows up to 16 hours of parking ($ 8 max). Very convenient.
Don’t overlook this gorgeous venue! It’s something you have to check out in person. Appointments are recommended before you walk in unannounced.
Update: This review may sound very ‘plastic’, but truly this place is under-​rated.
