Magic Exterminating

They’re ok… Honestly I didn’t like how snobby they are. My most biggest complaint is they didn’t do a good job cleaning up after themselves

Stay away. There are much better exterminators in the city. Even if you want to cancel the coveted contract which is non-​binding, they call you back, begging you to stay, when you explicitly told them NO, I would like to sever all ties with you. I have never heard of this before. I have also never heard of calling customers to pay the bill on time. They charge way too much for services you may not even need. Very unprofessional. I just thought you should know before being baited by them.

I had a small infestation of bedbugs and my landlord used them to work on it. Their bedbug inspector was brusque and taciturn — did not tell me I had to remove my MANY books from shelves for treatment. I asked for instructions of for to prepare before treatment and got a very vague list. I moved most of my things out of the apartment and packaged them up — but not my books. When the day for my treatment came, the worker refused to treat my place since guess what? I had books out on my shelves and no one had told me to move them. Fine, I move the books they reschedule,. This means I have to delay attendance at an artist retreat I had been planning for MONTHS because of their lack of communication. Fine, whatever that’s a luxury problem, at least my bedbugs are getting treated right? So, they treat 7/​1, with a combination of steam and pesticides. When I asked the workers what pesticides they were using they didn’t tell me, which is not really what a PCO is supposed to do, since you are supposed to be able to make an integrated strategy with them based on what chemicals they are using. I get 2 bites after they treat, I call them, they say it takes 2 weeks for bugs to die. Fair enough, I wait, I have a few small bites during the waiting period.- July 15, then shortly after the 2 week period — July 16 – 18 I start getting bitten again with big bites. I call immediately but it takes four days for me to get to talk to a human who can help me. This whole time the secretary is acting very defensive «Oh you need to talk to Ralph, he called you back this morning» (my phone records indicate he did NOT call me back but whatever), during which time I which I am bitten. When I finally speak to their entomologist Ralph, he is defensive, aggressive, condescending and all around acts like a wannabe lawyer. He. tells me 1. I have to show him a live bedbug to get treated. 2,. tells me they are not bedbug bites 3. accuses me of having old bites that are just now showing a reaction, 4 tries to tell me that I am bringing bugs in from somewhere, until I 1. tell him I never had a live bedbug in my possession, 2. I know they are fresh bedbug bites, 3. I am not going anywhere to bring them back (since the artist colony revoked my invitation when I was delayed because of bedbugs), I have no money since I spent it all on mattress encasements, plastic bags, etc, and and I am just in the house dealing with the bugs. I cannot emphasize enough how rude and condescending this man is — is a verbal bully, very unprofessional.
He finally relents and says they will send an inspector when I ask for it that day he says no, just to be a jerk. I have my landlord call him and set up an inspecting for that day. But they are DEFENSIVE, BLAMING THE VICTIM and RUDE. None of that would matter if their treatment worked but the treatment DID NOT WORK! As other reviewers said, they are ‘unprofessional, over-​priced, and rude”

Unprofessional, over-​priced, and rude. Avoid at all costs. We had a termite contract with them that we did not renew after the first year. They are consistently late or do not show up for appointments, and the guys they send out seem poorly trained and are often rude. When I’ve called the office, the staff there are also rude and poorly trained. Do yourself a favor, and find someone else for your pest control needs.

This place is a big fat NOPE. Shady, unprofessional and unreliable. Look elsewhere for your exterminating needs.

I had construction on my block and ended up with several mice in the house. I called Magic who came immediately, and charged me around $ 300 dollars to fix the problem. Their fix consisted of putting down traps. The mice kept coming, traps kept tripping, I was skeeved to be in my house. Little dead rodents in the kitchen every morning. I have a six year old, and we were both mortified to walk in there every morning. I called, they came back, more traps. Finally, I said, this is not a solution, an older technician came out and said what I needed was an exclusion package, more money. I broke down crying and he called the office and told them he was doing the service. The office was rude, unhelpful and I cannot recommend strongly enough that you take your business elsewhere.

I first used these guys a few months back for an ant problem and they did a great job. However, when I called back again recently for a gnat/​drain fly problem, the first time I called they told me just to put bleach down the drain, which didn’t help. The second time I called, they scheduled an appointment for two days later but then 30 minutes before arrival the tech called to say there was no point in him coming because there was nothing to do and to call a plumber. When the plumber came, he said that while cleaning the drain could help — you still need to identify the nest and we can set traps and things to help tackle the problem.
It felt like the tech was just lazy and didn’t want to come. I get the feeling this company only cares about serving you if you have a contract with them. Without — who cares, I wasted two days with the problem getting worse when I could have called someone else if they would have told me they weren’t going to actually come.

This is the worst unproffessional company I ever had to deal with, My place has bed bugs and they had a guy come in and look only at my bed and say there are no bed bugs. I was fortunate enough to have a friend bring in a trained canine to detect the bugs. If your building using this place BEWARE, because maybe they will have talked with the landlord and lie to you about your problems. It’s the saddest thing ever, this is why this problem is so huge in NYC, there are too much unethical ppl that don’t know how to do their jobs well. Just waste your time and life! What COMES AROUND GOES AROUND.

Expensive when compared to others, and did not do a good job. They want u to keep calling them.
We have an ant problem, and instead of going after the colony, they only killed the ones around. The ants keep coming back.
I am calling another company with a better guarantee and less expensive, and another company that explained to me what out problem was and how they will go about killing the colony with a one year guarantee for less money than these guys!

They sent a guy who came over to do a free estimate and evaluation of my pest problem. Although the guys spent over an hour staring at my walls and garden/​yard in an almost oblivious manner, he did in fact answer all my questions and seemed geniunely nice in assessing the situation. In the end he was honest and gave me some advice to go a much cheaper route. General basic quotes start at 275 min, but the convoluted and skeptical job/​course of action he didn’t recommend costs upwards of 600.

I am a NYC resident and had a mouse/​mice issue in my apartment. I contacted Magic and they sent a technician to my apartment within a few hours of my call. The technician was informative and very thorough. He located the problem areas, sealed them, set some traps and i have been rodent free for well over a year now. I was also very happy to learn that Magic does not use any harmful sprays or «sticky traps».
I hope to never have an issue like this again but in the unfortunate case that I do, I know exactly who to call.
and Violet M (a few posts above mine). That story is completely fabricated, did the convo go something like this? «im here for your bed bugs ma’am and by the way which way to your porn collection?» Just pay your bill and move on.

Magic has been servicing my home and my small business for the last 4 years. The men that come to do the work are respectful, honest and very knowledgable about the issues. They take their time and make sure that every base is covered before leaving. I highly recommend them to anyone that wants stellar service and a guarantee that the job will get done correctly.
