I have been praying for an African restaurant to come to my area and now it has finally arrived!!! My prayers has been answered!!! Now if I can only get my prayers of hitting the lottery answered… I will be even more happy! Before AB Halal Restaurant, the only way I could have African food was traveling to Accra restaurant located in the Burnside Ave in the Bronx that’s right the Bronx… you can read my review for that place… This Restaurant is new to Flatbush(a little over two months old). I discovered it as I was walking from the Chinese restaurant which is a block away from AB hala Restaurant. Sadly, I already had purchased Chinese food, but I promised the young guy who was working that day that I would be back. And boy I sure did return the next day and the next day and the next day. I would eat here twice a day for one whole month… I realized that month I sent OVER $ 100 dollars just eating here, so I had to lay off this place… This is a buffet style Restaurant, so you can take a little bit of everything, they will just weight it after you are completely finished selecting what you wanted. They don’t display how much per pound things are, but one day I over heard the owner explain to one very handsome light skin African customer, that Somethings are $ 4.99 per lb and others are $ 5.99 per lb… Also they don’t label what the food is, so you are left guess what it is… Come check this place out, you may get hooked like I am… Cons: 1) this place is hot because the seats are near the steam table, maybe in the winter it will serve its purposes 2) they don’t list what the food is, so the consumers would have to ask the cashier and half the time she does not know herself… 3) floor is very very slippery if it gets wet, i almost fell down twice… So be very careful if it is a rainy day or the steam table is leaking 4) does not list what is 4.99 per lb and what is 5.99 per lb Pros: 1) has a good selections 2) has a few American items for those how are not a fan of African dished. 3) food is well seasoned 4) convenient location!

I was looking for parking in the area and happen to find a spot next to this restaurant. I was hungry so I thought would get a bit to eat. The place being halal was a plus because I’m Muslim. The owners are from Ghana Africa so you get a mix of African food and Caribbean food because the area is primarily west Indian. I tried out the Mac & Cheese, Ox Tail, plantains and empanada(West Indian). Also had the Chicken shish kabab, couscous, zalabiya donut(African/Arabic style food). MAC& Cheese: This was very dry, did not have any moisture and barely any cheese. Ox Tail: This was actual good and had a nice smokey taste. Plantains: Not the best I had but not bad either. Empanada: Their empanada’s have tuna inside of it. I enjoyed it very much and will get this again. The crust was crisp and packed with filling. Chicken Shish Kabob: The kabob was delicious but needed a little salt. Couscous: This was decent couscous, nothing amazing but still okay. Lastly we had fried dough which is like a donut but in Arabic we call it zalabiya. It was pretty solid and I would get this again. It was only 2 for a dollar. The food overall was solid but more on the lines of being Okay. I would come back in the area but wont travel out my zone to get it. The staff inside were very kind and helpful. Service was great and everyone make’s you feel comfortable.
